Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

“He has risen,” or else S28e161 Mark 16:6

Michael Smith Season 28 Episode 161

Without the reality of these 3 words, all of Christianity falls.

Without this day, there are no other days of Christianity

Absent this treasure of Jesus, there are no other treasures of Jesus.

The stone is rolled away by an angel, not to release, but to reveal. And then, to a group of most faithful women the 3 sweetest words in all of history: HE IS RISEN.

“He has risen,” or else S28e161 Mark 16:6

It is impossible to overemphasize the significance of Easter

Without this day, there are no other days of Christianity

If the resurrection of Easter isnt’ true, then nothing is true in the Bible

Absent this treasure of Jesus, there are no other treasures of Jesus

It all comes down to Easter Sunday, Resurrection day,

What happens on the third day?

Scene 1: Guards, earthquake, angels and stoneMatt 28: 28 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see thetomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and cameand rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.

Everybody gets an empty tomb moment.

Tomb guards get it first. They experience and earthquake and an angel and a rolling of the stone. Not to let Jesus out, but to reveal that He has already risen!; to REVEAL, not to RELEASE

The angel tells everybody Do not be afraid = everybody was afraid, esp. soldiers, who were no friends of Jesus. Nobody said, oh good, the angel is here. Tremebled. Became like dead men. Fell down. This isn’t even Jesus.

No angel has risen from the dead. Never. Not before. Not since.

Though the angel is glorious, the real story is Jesus.

Scene 2: Guards flee

Later, they will exchange their witness for money and a story.

From the first moments after the resurrection, people have been managingthe aftermath with

. Scene 3 Women approach VERY early in the morning..Luke 24:1,10

Mark 16:1 16 vWhen the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”

.Hear their conversation. Their concern. WHEN THE SUN HAD RISEN

Luke 24 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

.The faithful, ministering, brave women are still here, 12. Hours later. Still Dark. No plan on what to do with the stone. Poof. Problem solved. Angel has already been there.

Plan isn’t for a resurrection, plan is for spice application.

Scene 4 Mary takes off to tell disciples

All Mary needs to run this up the chain of command is the stone.

The stone is out of place. There are no guards. Something is veryamiss. I wonder if she believed right then.

John 20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him

had said these things to her.

Scene 5 HE HAS RISEN

At the tomb: Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, Joanna, Salome (likely the mother of the disciples James and John) and other women

three named,  AND OTHER women: whole possy

Mark 16: 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. 5 And enteringthe tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here

.He has risen. He has risen. Packed in here is a lot of dependent theology:

He conquered Death. He defeated the grip that the evil one has had.

He can conquer YOUR death, when the time comes.

The rescue operation is complete. It is FINISHED.

He’s soon on His way to heaven To SIT DOWN, and help you believ

The announcement of the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ, the anointed, the One who was to come, has indeed come, and seized death

This announcement first goes to a group of women

Everybody gets a resurrection moment: but this group of travelling, faithful, generous, grateful, ministering women get it first.

First in flight: NC licence plate. Women: first in the resurrection.

In so many ways, the church follows faithful women. In example, in Lydia being the first new believer in Europe in Phillipi. All the wonderful things that were said first to women. One comes to mind MARTHA: John 11:25

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

Etc.

I cannot think of anything sweeter. Announced by an angel to a bunch of women (angels) and now to everybody who reads this: HE HAS RISEN

Everything depends on this. Christianity rises or falls on 3 words.

Happy Easter. He has risen.
