Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

He MUST RISE so that you can rise 28e162 Jn20:1

Michael Smith Season 28 Episode 162

He MUST rise. Why?

  1. He said He would. Fulfillment of this promise gives us confidence in all His other promises.
  2. Preeminence. His stature is exalted, leading, famous and foremost.
  3. Absent this treasure of Jesus, there are no other treasures of Jesus. If this is true, so is all else. He MUST rise so that...YOU can one day rise by your faith in His Rising.

He MUST RISE so that you can rise 28e162 Jn20:1

Scene 1: Guards, earthquake, angels and stoneMatt

Not to let Jesus out, but to reveal that He has already risen!; to REVEAL, not to RELEASE

Scene 2: Guards flee

Scene 3 Women approach VERY early in the morning earthq. Stone rolled

Scene 4 Mary takes off to tell disciples

Scene 5 HE HAS RISEN Mary the mother of James and Joses, Joanna, Salome (likely the mother of the disciples James and John) and other women

“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here

First in flight: NC licence plate. Women: first in the resurrection.

Absent this treasure of Jesus, there are no other treasures of Jesus

Scene 6 Charged with the greatest news. RUN. Fear/joy tremble/astonish

Matthew 28: 6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then goquickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples(trembling and astonishment)

He has risen.

Go to Galilee. You’ll see him there.

         Go 80 miles!

Scene 7 John 20:3-10 Peter and John run to the tomb and see that it is empty having heard from Mary Magdalene. (It is possible they do this after the other women also tell them.) They don't understand and return to their homes.

20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going towardthe tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.

We have Mary Mag just having run

3 named women and a group of women running towards the disciples

They have gone into tomb. heard HE IS RISEN come and see. go

We have Peter and John running opposite way towards tomb

Not an understanding faith yet. Accusation of theft, not resurrection from Mary Mag.

John gets there first and externally assesses

Peter goes in. All they know is THEFT. All they know is loss, not gain

Then John goes in. HE SAW AND BELIEVED.

How do we know this.  This is first hand account.

How do we know when John believed?

John tells us when he believed in the resurrection

If it is not true, then all of Christianity is a lie, and we are most pitied

         HE MUST RISE. Why?

1.Because He said He would. Mark 8 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man mustsuffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. hMUST suffer. Must be rejected. Must be killed. Must RISE. fulfillment

2. Stature is PREEMINENT Colossians 1:18

18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

He must rise. We must…Hold Him as preeminent: exhaulted, leading, famous and formost. Sounds like this identifies Him as person of worship

3.Without this day, there are no other days of Christianity

If the resurrection of Easter isnt’ true, then nothing is true in the Bible

Absent this treasure of Jesus, there are no other treasures of Jesus

But if it IS TRUE. Then EVERYTHING is true.

Jesus is who He says He is. All of OT history predicates this.

         The rescue is complete.

He really is powerful enough to do what He said He would do Revelation 1:5

5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood

He is the FIRST to rise from the dead…BUT NOT THE LAST

MUST DO. Critical element of Christianity.

He must rise so HE CAN SIT DOWN positionally authoritatively

His work is finished in many ways. Few details, but the big stuff: who wins. Who is going to eternal prison. Who makes it to heaven by the coattails of Christ. This is all done. No further sacrifice is needed. No more Saviors need to be waited for. In many ways, This is the end of the rescue.

HE MUST RISE so you can rise. This makes the resurrection PERSONAL
