Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
I am YOUR God; I fight for you. I go before you S29e4 Dt 1:34
Watch as the wrong ANALYSIS of God results in wrong action and wrong BELIEF of God results in wrong BEHAVIORS.
This is in the shadow of God reminding them that I am YOUR God; I fight for you. I go before you. I show you the way to go. I carry you like a father carries his son.
Even so, after God speaks to them so tenderly, they'll not obey, not follow and not really repent. There'll be lots for us to learn. Subscribe too:

I am YOUR God; I fight for you. I go before you S29e4 Dt 1:34
Yesterday our Israelite brothers and sisters got it so very wrong. They conculude, they are operating out of an assumption that God HATES them, and that He went through all the trouble of the 10 plagues and the exodus to DESTROY them.
All the while we hear from God Himself His true thoughts/motivations:
I am YOUR God; I fight for you. I go before you.I give clear guideposts to you in the day and the night. I show you the way to go. I carry you like a father carries his son.Who carries? How? Like a son. When? In the wilderness. How far? All the way.
Wrong ANALYSIS of God resulted in wrong action
Wrong BELIEF of God resulted in wrong BEHAVIORS
They WOULD NOT go up. Would not go into the land
34 “And the Lord heard your words and was angered, and he swore, CONSEQUENCE:35 ‘Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land that I swore to give to your fathers, 36 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He shall see it, and to him and to his children I will give the land on which he has trodden, because he has wholly followed the Lord!’ CALEBS GONNA MAKE IT 37 Even with me the Lord was angry on your account and said, ‘You also shall not go in there. MOSES WILL NOT MAKE IT38 Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall enter.JOSHUA GONNA MAKE IT. WHAT SHALL YOU DO FOR YOU LEADER? Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. 39 And as for your little ones, who you said would become a prey, GET KILLED and your children, who today have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in there. And to them I will give it, and they shall possess it. 40 But as for you, turn, and journey into the wilderness in the direction of the Red Sea.’ GO WANDER IN THE DESERT UNTIL YOU DROP DEAD. ALL THAT”S LEFT IS CHILDREN, NOW ADULTS
41 “Then you answered me, ‘We have sinned against the Lord. = We ourselves will go up and fight, just as the Lord our God commanded us.’ DAY LATE> DOLLAR SHORT. YOU Will NOT HAVE EVERYDAY to be restored like it used to be. And every one of you fastened on his weapons of war and thought it easy to go up into the hill country. 42 And the Lord said to me, ‘Say to them, Do not go up or fight, for I am not in your midst, lest you be defeated before your enemies.’ 43 So I spoke to you, and you would not listen; THIS IS AFTER THE SO CALLED REPENTANCE. but you rebelled against the command of the Lord and presumptuouslywent up into the hill country. 44 Then the Amorites who lived in that hill country came out against you and chased you as bees do and beat you down in Seir as far as Hormah. 45 And you returned and wept before the Lord, but the Lord did not listen to your voice or give ear to you. YOU BROKE RELATIONSHIP. 46 So you remained at Kadesh many days, the days that you remained there.
Poof: oops. Sorry. I’ll fight not. I’ll fasten on weapons and go up now.
Still Not listening to God, rebelling = not really repenting.
I got this. I understand God. Pride and repentance cannot be in the same sentence.
God is not mocked by easy regret/ repentance.
Presumption, easy forgiveness..
True repentance is the hardest thing in the world
That is why it is so very rare and precious when you see it.
“I could be wrong about this.” Are the most difficult 6 words
Getting head right, heart, words, actions V.41 “thought it easy”
“I’m sorry” Didn’t get their repentance thoughts right; actions against what God said. God knows. God sees. Wouldn’t listen. Rebelling.
Wait. No. The command was for immediate obedience.
The Lord used circumstances to discipleine you. Chased you as bees; beat you down.
And you retruned. And you wept before the Lord.
Is that weeping the tears of REGRET?: yikes bad circumstances
Or REPENTANCE. You are right. I am wrong. I deserve punish
Positionally: You are God I am not I shut my mouth.
Your punishment is JUST. You are right. Your punishment is merciful
Have some humility in repentance.
The Lord being in the MIDST
I spoke. You did not listen. You rebelled against the command of the Lord You acted presumptusously.
They had a handle on God
Do you really think you hear God accurately now?
Have you checked with His word? His leaders?
Yes, fighting with the Lord in your midst is preferred. Still involves obedienceand swords and conflict, and hardship and enemies
Call for right repentance: Porn? Anger? Theft? Mis-thinking about God?
How thorough will be the turning?
How humble the mind, the words.
Some of you are facing difficulties. Is the Lord in your midst? If so…
