Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

If you Love the Old Testament, you are a friend of mine S29e11 Dt4:1
There is wonderful stuff, 3500 years old, that is for us TODAY. There are revelations and principles that are just as true today as they were fresh out of heaven's mouth.
Our challenge is to go find them. He's left treasures in the Old Testament for us to make new today. If you love the treasures of Deuteronomy and the "Old" Testament, you are a friend of mine. Friend, let's go find them.

The Lord still commands and guides Today’s Christians, through the teachings of the OT.
First a caution: We are not the people of Israel, at that moment 1400 BC. Must be careful to claim the promises for israel at that moment for ourselves in this moment
Don’t apply unattached , unique agreements only for that time
On the other hand, we must be careful NOT TO IGNORE the applicable promises and principles that may be the Lord has for us in the revelation of this passage.
This stuff is in the bible for a reason: to tell us about God and His interaction with mankind
As we read, What does the Lord have for us in the teaching and recorded experiences of the OT?
Why might a modern day Christian LOVE the OT.
If you Love the OT, you are a friend of mine. Let’s see why.
4 “And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the rules that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you. 2 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lordyour God that I command you. 3 Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal-peor, for the Lord your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor. 4 But you who held fast to the Lord your God are all alive today. 5 See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 6 Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ 7 For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him? 8 And what great nation is there, that has statutes and rules so righteous as all this law that I set before you today?
9 “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’schildren— 10 how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’ 11 And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, while the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, wrapped in darkness, cloud, and gloom. 12 Then the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire.
What can we safely take out of this passage. Four principles:
1.Hold fast to the Lord your God—stay faithful. Keep obedience when it is hard. Entrust during suffering. You will have this challenge THIS WEEK.
2.Take possession of what He has given you
Use the resources of prayer, Bible, fellowship, worship, gifting, stewardship to bring to bear on the challenges we face
Listen and Admire the Lord’s justice, statutes rules. Don’t add word to Word
Keep and do what the Lord tells you
3. Appreciate A GOD SO NEAR
What great nation has a God so near to it as the Lord your God is to us?
Remember, they weren’t a great nation and therefore God decided to come near. They weren’t so shiny and bright and big that God chose them.
But, they became shiny, bright, BECAUSE God chose them
Christians today have the HS within, helping convicting, bring to mind
Use appreciate a God so near. Stand amazed. Respond Awe. Worship
4. Take care and keep your soul diligently.
Watch yourself, your own soul. Soul keep yourself so you can soul keep othersaround you. Family, friends, . Picture put on ownO2 mask first
Call upon Him in prayer
Remember the past Do not forget things that your eyes have seen
Plan for His future, when you are not in the picture: Teach the next generation, you children and your spiritual children my words, my fear
Honor the words that the Lord speaks to you
The Lord still speaks
The Lord still commands and guides Today’s Christians, through the teachings of the OT.
Hold fast
Take possession of what He’s given
Appreciate, worship and use the God so near
Keep your soul diligently—just like He asked this people group many yrs before
The Lord still commands and guides Today’s Christians, through the teachings of the OT.
Must be careful NOT to claim the promises for israel that aren’t for us
