Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

Finding treasure in an old Polish Castle S29e14 Dt4:44

Michael Smith Season 29 Episode 14

Historians recently made a very big deal about finding a single ring in a castle in Poland.  It was from the 11th century, gold, and found in a castle that housed kings.

Similarly, we should be treasuring the revelations that God gives us about Himself. One of His revelation tools is His LAW. It is older,  more complete, comes with cross-references, and better describes its originator than a dusty old ring.

Make a big deal about it for 7 minutes today and tomorrow by subscribing.

Finding treasure in an old Polish Castle S29e14 Dt4:44

Read an article yesterday about a ring that was found in a castle in Krokow, Poland. Described as remarkable, stunning, rare,  historically significant. One single gold ring. Dated to 11th or 12th century Maybe two letters. Don’t know who wore it, why they wore it or what they were thinking. Was a very big deal. Historians are going wild for this. Dozens of articles as jazzed up as historians ever get.

What we have in Dt is so much more than that.  First, it is  3x older. Second it is in great detail. Third, we know what everybody is thinking, we have quotes, we have crossreferences. We have the revelation of God Himself to humanity in great detail. We have an unspeakable treasure of God coming down for us. We should be making at least as much of a big deal as the finding of a single gold ring. Let’s treat the exposure of THE LAW as least as big. Let’s treat these words as big of a deal as that silly ring in Poland.  Let’s make a big deal about it. Value it, explore it, consider it, stand in awe before it. Dt4:

44 This is the law that Moses set before the people of Israel. 45 These are the testimonies, the statutes, andthe rules, which Moses spoke to the people of Israel when they came out of Egypt,

44 This is the Law that Moses set before the people of Israel

Moses didn’t write the Law.  God wrote the Law.

This is God’s doing. His first Contact.—not first, but continuing.

Let this sink in: The Lord gives the law. Sets it before us

It is going to show us something about HIM, and about US

The Law reveals something about HIM

Point of the law is to show you the character and characteristics of God

It reveals His holiness, His priorities, His justice, His protection, His principles, His ways

The heart of God that the law reveals

is marvelous then, now and forever

The Law has not gone away. The holiness of God has not gone away

Hasn’t changed one bit since laid down for us 3500 years ago.

The RESPONSE, should also not have changed:

Lord I stand as obedient before you.

Ch 6You shall LOVE the Lord your God  with all your heart sould and might. The words shall be on your heart. Remembered. In the forefront. Guiding. Valued. Attempted. Discussed. Bound to us. Prioritized and Treasured.

I’m gonna need help

The Law reveals something about US

Ch 5He gives 10 commandments. Just 10. You can fit em on 2 tablets

You can fit them on a notecard

We are not God. We are not holy. I cannot do this

We fail at these commands

Which is the point. It is your tutor. It is your teacher. It is your keeper. Keep you in custody. Shut you up in sin. To lock you up in sin. Reveal sin to you: no, see? You still can’t do the law?. Point you to Christ.

Gal 3            22        But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23      But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.

24      Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.

Ultimately: this points us to a savior: we’re going to need special help

It is not that the law does not work—the Law works great.

         Jesus did the Law perfectly.

It is His perfect accomplishment of the law that ultimately allows all of us who fail in accomplishment of the law to stand before God s blemish

Its not that the Law doesn’t work. If you are perfectly holy, you’ll have no problem with the notecard commandments.

If you are not perfectly holy, youre gonna need a Savior

The Law will work to reveal your sin.  Then, you’re gonna need FAITH.

This giving of the Law on Mt. Sinai 3500 years ago is to lead you to Christ

So Let’s have the awe and respect and wonder that the coming of the law should be associated with.

Let’s give it MORE than this ring from 11th centurey AD.

Let’s honor and treasure the character it reveals about God.

Let’s humbly respond in faith and gratefulness about the failure to be holy that it reveals about us.

Finally, let us let it point us that we need a Savior. That Heaven isn’t earned by accomplishing Law, but FAITH in the One who accomplished it.
