Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

When God says, “You got this right!” S29e17 Dt5:28
What does God want our heart to be like? Fortunately, He tells us.
We are at a highlight moment between God and mankind.
Bible is full of correction, Here in this moment: You got this right!
In today’s passage, the people of God respond rightly to God. (rare)
God then TELLS THEM: Yes! You are doing this right.
Dt 5 is all about the 10 commandments,
or however many you choose to obey. And our RESPONSE
Today we will hear the heart of God for our hearts:
He flat out tells us what He’d like the posture of our souls be in relation to His commands
Oh that you would be like THIS:
OH THAT you would DO these things:
Dt 5:28 “And the Lord heard your words, when you spoke to me. And the Lord said to me, ‘I have heard the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. They are right in all that they have spoken. 29 Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever! 30 Go and say to them, “Return to your tents.” 31 But you, stand here by me, and I will tell you the whole commandment and the statutes and the rules that you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land that I am giving them to possess.’ 32 You shall be careful therefore to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 33 You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.
The Lord has given of Himself in the revelation of His commands
He shows us who He is, by what He asks us to do.
That command would tell you about the character of the Commander
By contrast: Let’s say there was a command to lie, cheat and steal to get all the money you can. That
The command would tell you about the character of the Commander
In broad strokes, The behavior requested of the creation, us, is consistant thru time. That behavior is predicated on the character of the Commander
The character of the Commander determines the conduct of the commandee
His character is unchanging.
Because there is a response of holiness that is compelled when exposed to the Holy
He tells us what He’d like the posture of our souls be in relation to His commands
: We talked about how the people responded yesterday:
OH THAT you would DO these things: FEAR ME and KEEP COMMANDS
Oh that you would fear me; afraid. Respect, honored, reverenced, awed
We have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire
We are not consumed! We are let in on His truths and secrets
The revelation has not killed us, as it should. We are still here!
Oh that you would be like THIS
When you heard the voice, you came near
You recognized the presence and the voice and the protection
The Lord has shown us His GLORY, and Greatness
Lord you are near. You are hear. We see you. We are in awe before you.
We wish to draw near to You ,
Have a heart that is bent toward obedience.
Aim for AWE. Here in 7 minutes; in the fellowship; in reading Bible; in serving those in your church
Have this heart that the Israelites received the 5/10 commandments and all the others that will follow
Have a heart bent toward receiving and obeying them
Do these things
Don’t turn aside to the right or to the left
Oh my people, that you would ALWAYS HAVE a heart like this
Inclined to listen . COME AT THIS WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE
A little terrified, respectful, with reverence, and admiration of attitude
Inclined to OBEY. COME AT THIS BY moving toward ACTION
Let’s pay attention. God says to people, humans, bro and sis. I see you. I see your response to the exposure of these commandment. They reveal ME. I see how you are responding. Fearful and Obedient. You are getting this right.
Oh that you would ALWAYS have a heart like this…which means TODAY.
Let’s have a heart that respectfully fears and is inclined to OBEY.
Let’s get this RIGHT!
