Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. I have had a live hornet in my mouth for a moment. I am not recommending it.
Of note, one of the ways the Lord clears out the promised land for the promised people is, wait for it, HORNETS. Trust me, it is an effective tool to throw the people into confusion.

Why does God pursue humans? 1. Because of His love. 2. Because He is a Setter of love. 3. Because of His promise to people He previously set His love upon.
He loves. He choses. He keeps His promise. And He reaches out to people. Then He sets His love upon us.
SET HIS AFFECTION on the people of Israel, so that he could someday SET HIS AFFECTION on YOU. So that you would SET. YOUR AFFECTION ON HIM
Be careful to do the commandments
12 “And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers. 13 He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you. 14 Youshall be blessed above all peoples. There shall not be male or female barren among you or among your livestock. 15 And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you. 16 And you shall consume all the peoples that the Lord your God will give over to you. Your eye shall not pity them, neither shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you. Be careful to do what God says
Listen, and more than listen: DO
Then God keeps covenant; God commits HESED to you.
He loves, bless, multiply, blesses womb, ground, grain,wine, oil, herds
YOU SHALL BE BLESSED OF ALL PEOPLES. Blessed ABOVE ALL PEOPLES
The Lord is setting his affection on Israel. Because they have earned it? .Dt7: 7 It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand
The Lord will take away from you all sickness.
You shall consume All the peoples that Lord gives over to you.
Be careful here. Don’t get shakey. Don’t pity them. Leave the judgment to me. Don’t pity them. No mercy. No marry. No mis-worship.
Don’t get snared by people that the Lord is purifying the Land by removing
People can be a snare. Both fear of them and compassion for them can trip you up. I am clearing them out before you, but not too fast, lest wild beasts take over before you move in.
17 “If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?’ 18 you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, 19 the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out. So will the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.20 Moreover, the Lord your God will send hornets among them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you are destroyed. 21 You shall not be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God. 22 The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little. You may not make an end of them at once, lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you. 23 But the Lord your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed. 24 And he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under heaven. No one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them. 25 The carved images of their gods you shall burn with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. 26 And you shall not bring an abominable thing into your house and become devoted to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest and abhor it, for it is devoted to destruction.

For a brief moment, I had a hornet in my mouth.
We were thrown in to massive confusion and terror
23 but the Lord you God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion.
Here is my life-lived truth: there is no better way to throw someone into a state of confusion that to put a hornet into their mouth.

I couldn’t defend myself very well. Extremely distracted Running and screaming for my life.
If you say: I cannot do this…
Remember what I have already done with the Egyptians: you’ve seen signs, wonders and mighty hand and outstretched arm all to move a people.
Good news you were on the right side of history
Egyptians were not on right side of history.
I, the Lord will clear them away
Be careful here. Don’t bring their unholy, detestible thing into your house. Why? Because IT is devoted to destruction. Herem. Devote things to destruction so God can make a pure people, set HIS LOVE UPON THEM.so, If you bring the abominable to your house YOU become unpure and become devoted to Destruction. Set apart for destruction. Is
HEREM destruction to an deserving evil people group. They maybe got hornets in their mouth, or at least chasing them into confusion.
Why does He do it? to demonstrate His Hesed.
