Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Were does my wealth come from? S29e21 Dt8:17
Summarize much of Chapter 8. We’ve heard it before. There’s one concept we haven’t yet heard in Dt and I’d like to camp there: Where does my wealth come from? Where does my abilities to make a fortune, large or small, come from. Were did my power to get wealth come from? But first, Great great great words from God Himself
Be careful out there.
Lest you forget Who God is
Lest you forget What God does
Describes the spiritual walk
Be ready to be disciplined
Be ready to be tested
This walk isn’t going to be easy
Be ready to hunger.
Be ready to hunger for His Word
Be ready to be fed.
Be ready to be led somewhere.
A land without spiritual scarcity
Be ready to be humbled. Worse:
Be ready to be PRIDEFUL; be ready to IDENTIFY pride
Christians do not have pride parades. They are in remorse over their pride
Don’t let your HEART BE LIFTED UP against the Lord therefore
Be ready to be wrong about your powers to get wealth
8:17 Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ 18 You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
Be aware of where your wealth comes from
Do you have a strong back?
Do you have an ability to have learned something that is valuable in the marketplace?
Do you have hands that are of use?
Do you have commitment to a task that gets things done?
Can you read and understand and make a plan?
Has anyone trained you to a task or a skill that is of use to other human
Do you have the gift of just showing up until the job is done?
All these things are valuable; worth something in the marketplace
Where did those valuable commodities come from?
Did you make your eyes? Brain? Your will?
Don’t get the source of your abilities and the fruit of your abilities wrong—this is all from God.
Do not say MY POWER and the MIGHT OF MY HAND has gotten wealth
Wait: You shall remember the Lord your God
It is HE we gives you power to get wealth
Where does my ability to earn money come from?
In a million ways, it comes from God
I pray that you glory in your abilities, but to glory in HIM; towards Him
You can “SAY THIS WRONG IN YOUR HEART”
So let’s say this right this morning. Many of you are up and at ‘em today and watch this podcast with your coffee, or in the shower, or on the way to where? Mostly, to WORK.
He is giving you a power. It is a godly power, given to Adam BEFORE THE FALL. Work is given, the gift is given, BEFORE the fall.
Oh to be Productive, useful
Work is now corrupted by the curse. Suppose attitude also corrupted
Say it right: the Lord is in this.
The Lord gives power and abilities
I have a superpower, which is the ability to work
I have a superpower, which is the power to get wealth.
I have a superpower, which is to turn a pile of resources into a bigger pile of resources
God is not separate from my work-life
God is not separate from my work abilities
What are the unique things that make you successful at your job?
Where did that come from. Those come from?
Answering that question likely is a pathway to God Himself
And His specific kindness to you
Remember the Lord in this superpower
He is the source of our powers to work; and the source of the fruits of our work
Do not be prideful in work
Hold the Lord, who is the giver of gifts, above the gifts, above the end result of those gifts: which is wealth.
