Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
I love MONEY more than anything, even God S29e22 dt8:18
What happens if you love money more than God? Longing for money results in consequences that go beyond money. The Bible calls it an idol and some very unpalatable things will follow.
Moses and Paul both beg us: Don’t end up with ruin, destruction, a fall into a senseless and harmful desires, temptations and snares. Don’t disregard God and end up in ruin. Let's get this right in the next 7 minutes.

I love MONEY more than anything, even God S29e22 dt8:18
Yikes, let’s see how this turns out for him
. 17 Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ 18 You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 19 And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish. 20 Like the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
This is a guy “saying something in his heart”:My power. My might. My money
I am a self made man. Saying this in his heart=saying it to God
My hand, My power My wealth.
Passage today is usurping who is the boss. Who is the Lord
He is the giver of power to get money
Having the wrong attitude about money is the same as saying
having the wrong attitude towards the Lord.
Immediate connection between doing this area wrong and doing my relationship with God wrong. Moses is begging us to do this right.
Remembering from whose might money comes from is amental and a spiritual exercise
Same sentence: REMEMBER the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.
Do not forget the Lord in your wallet. Pocketbook, 401k, financial portfolio
Do not GO AFTER other gods, and serve them.
Idols are generally good things which are made ultimate things.
The Lord likes prudence and saving .
Taken to their extreme, you end up with either an idol made of gold
Or an idol that is just plain is gold.
The NT echos this exact thought in 1 Tim 6
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
One of the best warning passages about money
Lord has lots and lots to say about money
Let’s start with the wrong attitude’s results:
You FALL somewhere, and it is into TEMPTATION
You Fall into a snare
You fall into many senseless and harmful desires
Senseless means futile, vain, stupid, pointless
You wouldn’t do it if you really thought about it…so think!
Harmful means that what you even WISH FOR, can hurt you
Your cravings, can be injurious
Your longings alone can wound you.
Plunged into Ruin and destructions
This concept of the love of money…MORE THAN GOD
Money isn’t evil. It is the love of money. If an Idol more than God
Demonstrates a root that results in all kinds of evils
Longing for money results in consequences that go beyond money
Results in WANDERING away from the faith.
If u Quit aiming primarily at the Person and relationship with God
You miss the primary mark because you stop aiming at it
And one day you find yourself as having wandered away.
I suppose some wander away actively, but I think most do it non-intentionally; oops, I lost my faith. Bumbled along and ended up here.
Dt says forgetting God, going after other gods, money, serve them
Results in sure PERISHING
Wandering away from the faith, failing the test of continueance,
In the end you are not found in Him
Demonstrates not having faith and will result in perishing.
So then, brothers and sister, Let’s be careful here. Don’t end up with ruin, destruction, a fall into a senseless and harmful desire, temptations and snares. Don’t disregard God and end up in ruin.
Don’t deprioritize God and be destroyed
Don’t worship the idol of money and end up with injuring yourself
Don’t worship the wrong thing and wander from the faith
Beware what you say in your heart about money
It reveals what is an idol in your life
What does your heart say aobut money? Is it everyting to you? More than God? If so, prepare for a fall into senseless desires, self-harm and snares.
And having this negatively affect your relationship with God.
Let’s get this right. Couldn’t be more clear about this. 3500 years.
