Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Getting a MONEY SLAP from God S29e23 Dt9:1
Could it be that the Lord choses a wicked people (Israel) to root out a wicked people (Anak's clan) to save a wicked people (You and me)?
If so, we should be pretty humble, no matter what people group we find ourselves in. We shouldn't be prideful of our wealth. (God gave His "money slap" in yesterday's passage.) Nor should we be prideful of the group of people that we woke up in today.
Listen and watch 7 minutes today. You have 7 minutes. The caution today will be a blessing to you. Subscribe for a blessing tomorrow.

Getting a money slap from God S29e23 Dt9:1
Yesterday,We got a money slap from God. Today about diff kind of slap
God Loves money. He loves it so much that He provides a way for you to provide it to you and your family. He gives abilities. He gives skills. He gives a body and mind that work, etc.
Unfortunately, In this we CAN FORGET. We can get this wrong.
We can EGO Ease God Out of this equation
“My power, MY might, My money”
In so doing, this is serving another god, worshiping another god.
So what’s the big deal? If I get money wrong?
Longing for money results in consequences that go beyond money
Perishing. Don’t end up with ruin, destruction, a fall into a senseless and harmful desire, temptations and snares. Don’t disregard God and end up in ruin.
Thinking right about money is a spiritual exercise.
Thinking right about money is God’s relationship, His very causation of the abilities I have to earn is so important that He has likened it to IDOLATRY. Which is violation Commandment #1
Finishes yesterday with the caution: if you are tempted to say, it is because of MY power, My might My hand my wealth. Me Me ME.
And similarly today he’ll say DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART: it is because of MY RIGHTEOUSNESS that the Lord brought me in to possess this land.
It is not about you. It is not about your shininess. It is about ME. Holy.
9 “Hear, O Israel: you are to cross over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, cities great and fortified up to heaven, 2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard it said, ‘Who can stand before the sons of Anak?’ 3 Know therefore today that he who goes over before you as a consuming fire is the Lord your God. He will destroy them and subdue them before you. So you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly, as the Lord has promised you.
4 “Do not say in your heart, after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you, ‘It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickednessof these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lordswore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Here you are about to go into the promised land. Promised to Abraham 700 years ago. Promised to you 4 0 years ago. You missed the faith bus
The Anak’s were a tall strong people. Who can stand.
It is not about your foes. It is about your faith in Me, that I have chosen you; that I am a consuming fire. That I do not tolerate wickedness.
In a sense, the Lord uses a wicked people, Israel to do His work on a wicked people.
And when He does, don’t get on your high and mighty horse and say, I am so righteous. I deserve this special treatment by God. My ACTIONS make me righteous before a holy God. NO!
Grateful. Humble. Silent before Him.
Yesterday: He is the giver of abilities to create wealth.
Today: He is the giver of mercy to use you to thrust out wicked nations
Not that you deserve this
It is not because of your righteousness
It is not the uprightness of your heart
I am doing an example of response of a holy God to an unholy people group
Do not think too highly of yourself
Example #1of wrong thinking: my power and might has gotten me this wealth Do not think too highly of yourself
Example #2 of wrong thinking: My uprightness of heart has earned the possessionof this land
Do not think too highly of yourself
Do not think too lowly of God
For believers today Lets remember the story : Lk 18 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other.
We are the tax collectors in the story. Sinful. Unworthy. Standing far off from the holiness of God. We humbly orbit planet holiness. Eyes cast down. Beating our breast: BE MERCIFUL to me a sinner.
Not, I Got this by my shininess. But, I got this by grace. I got this by the mercy of God. Let’s end humbly, gratefully, . For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
