Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Interceding for complete Knuckleheads S29e25 Dt9:13
To intercede is to
Ask for others when they cannot ask
Act for others when they cannot act
Remember for others when they have forgotten
And when others have lost their standing before God, we stand before Him on their behalf.
There is someone in your life that you can intercede for. Who is it?

Golden Calf Story INTERCESSION OF MOSES
Asks for others when they cannot ask
Act for them when they cannot act
Remember for them when they have forgotten
And when they have lost their standing before God, He lies prostrate before Him on their behalf.
Dt 9:13 “Furthermore, the Lord said to me, ‘I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stubborn people.14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven. And I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’ 15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. 16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the Lord your God. You had made yourselves a golden calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the Lord had commanded you. :The people Moses has to lead
They have violated commands 1 and 2, turned aside, built image, valued it with Gold. Rebelling against the commandments.Did not believe Him.Did not obey Him. Stubborn. Wicked. Sinful.
But then Moses intercedes
17 So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes. 18 Then I lay prostrate before the Lord as before, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all the sin that you had committed, in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke him to anger. 19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure that the Lord bore against you, so that he was ready to destroy you. But the Lord listened to me that time also. 20 And the Lord was so angry with Aaron that he was ready to destroy him. And I prayed for Aaron also at the same time. 21 Then I took the sinful thing, the calf that you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. And I threw the dust of it into the brook that ran down from the mountain. …. 26 And I prayed to the Lord, ‘O Lord God, do not destroy your people and your heritage, whom you have redeemed through your greatness, whom you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not regard the stubbornness of this people, or their wickedness or their sin, 28 lest the land from which you brought us say, “Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land that he promised them,
Absent this intercession, human history is changed
Intercession is Speaking for a person who cannot speak for themselves: child, elderly, sick, unborn, injured, innocently ignorant, lost their minds in this case KNUCKLEHEAD
I am going to intercede for a person or people who cannot speak for themselves because of current state,
Here, moses speaks for a people that have wronged HIM and His Lord
Of note, moses is interceding for a people that has personally rejected Him and his own efforts, leadership,
:He is full of the same response as God
He stands in the breech for his people. This people.
He fasts with his mouth, the prostrates himself before the Lord
This is a totally guilty set of people. Caught with their pants down.
Commentators think this involved out of bounds sexual sennanigans, usurping leadership, rebelling against the Lord and the one that the Lord had placed over you.
“I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure that Lord BORE against you
Who can you intercede for? Who will the Lord bring to mind?
Who has lost their standing before God?
Who do you love enough to take the hit and intercede
What innocent person can you speak for?
What totally guilty person can you speak for?
For sure they have wronged God, and they’ve probably wronged YOU
but you will humbly speak for them
Who are you afraid that the Lord’s hot displeasure burns against?
Maybe its you. Maybe it’s someone in your circle
We are not asking that the Lord change His character.
He has figured out a way to remain JUST: punish the sin appropriately
While also being the JUSTIFIER: He takes the punishment upon Himself in Jesus, to make the knucklehead sinner stand as if without sin
For Who would you ask that great exchange?
Moses asks humbly for his fellow Jews.
They are not a pretty lot. They are particularly NOT pretty right now.
Rebelling against the commandments.Did not believe Him.Did not obey Him. Stubborn. Wicked. Sinful.
He actually handles the idol for those who cannot handle it themselves
For who might you do that?
Spiritual leadership is to stand in the gap for people when they refuse to be led; refuse even to be interceded for
to intercede for those who don’t deserve it; who will not have it
to stand for those who cannot or will not yield to God right now
I praythat the Lord bring someone to mind right now: that you can
Asks for them when they cannot ask
Act for them when they cannot act
Remember for them when they have forgotten
who they have lost their standing before God, that you can humbly stand be for God on their behalf . interceding
