Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Thank you for joining us in BWM. This is a 7 minute podcast that is for all of us, me and you to touch the heart of God. He’s gone to great trouble to create the world, send a rescue mission, and record the whole goings on in His Word. Our goal is to put ourselves before each morning, each day to see what this exposure does for us.
Sometimes it is pretty sobering
Sometimes it is glorious.
We look for one truth to “pin to our chest” to remember thru the day
What ever happens, then we take another crack at it tomorrow.
I find it most helpful to attach this listening watching to another part of your day…to habit stack as you drink your coffee or drive to work or put your makeup on.
Here is the story for today.
Moses is recalling the event of the golden calf
This is just after the exodus from slavery in Egypt where they personally experienced the Lord’s redemption as the Lord’s mighty. Hand was put upon Egypt with the 10plagues. The Lord was present and in the midst of them and led them by fire at nightand a cloud by day.
Moses went for 40 days up Mt. Sinai to receive the commandments and the covenant…While you were away… we fell into rebellion against your leadership, against the Lord,
We turned aside quickly, we sinned against the Lord. We made another god to go before us, We were stiff-necked. We threw gold into the fire and out came this calf” Ex 32:25 we built an altar that was NOT to the Lord, They worshipped a god that does not exist.
Needless to say, the Lord’s anger burned hot against them
Moses then INTERCEDES. Stands in the gap
To Ask for another when they cannot ask
To Act for another when they cannot act
Remember for another when they have forgotten
So when they have lost their standing before God,
He stands before Him on their behalf.
Intercession is done for knuckleheads generally, exclusively for if they weren’t a knucklehead, they wouldn’t need interceding
He reminds God of His history and His promises to other humans REMEMB
It would be like us today
Lord you Love your Son
Lord you love the actions of Your son in redemption
You know all the trouble that He went for on behalf of people
Lord you love your church.
You have gifted her, organized her, supplied Her with Yourself
You have filled believers it
Please act in accordance with the love and grace you show to both
A part of intercession is to remind the Lord of His love, Hesed, faithfulne
Obviously, this is not something that He can forget, or that He’s forgotten
How shall we intercede? 3 things
In so doing, act as the other person should act
Humble ourselves
Ask what the person your are interceding for should ask
Remember what the other person should remember
About themselves
About the Lord
Act as they do not act prostrate humble
25 “So I lay prostrate before the Lord for these forty days and forty nights, because the Lord had said he would destroy you. Ask as they do not ask prayed
26 And I prayed to the Lord, ‘O Lord God, do not destroy your people and your heritage, whom you have redeemed through your greatness, whom you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Remember what they do not remember
27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not regard the stubbornness of this people, or their wickedness or their sin, 28 lest the land from which you brought us say, “Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land that he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.” 29 For they are your people and your heritage, whom you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.’
to intercede is to
To Ask for another when they cannot ask
To Act for another when they cannot act
Remember for another when they have forgotten
Find someone in your heart to stand in the gap for today. Someone who is not ACTing righ, not asking right and not remeberbing right. Then do for them what they cannot, or will not do for themselves.
