Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Are the Palestinians like the Amalekites? S29e63 Dt25:17
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn't forget something God told his people 3500 years prior to specifically not forget. He remembered the Amalekites. Not only that, he asked the world today to not forget the Amalekites.
The reference is the very chapter we are on as we are walking thru Deuteronomy. It is there Moses is commanded to "blot out the memory" of the Amalekites. Join me as we ask about his application of this verse to the current people group of the Palestinians, and their leadership of Hamas. Once again, Deuteronomy is practical and applicable. Subscribe

Are the Palestinians like the Amalekites? S29e63 Dt25:17
What is the podcast and video? We are walking thru Dt, a so called ancient book, but we are discovering it is applicable and authoritative and even practical for today. We are doing it sequentially and you find us in Dt 25:17 today
So, speaking of applicable and practical, Prime minister of Isarael on Oct 28th 2023, shortly after the Oct 7th Palestinian attack on the civilian population of Israel he gave a reference to the Bible. Headline read: Netanyahu's references to violent biblical passages raise alarm among critics
Netanyahu has dismissed calls for a pause in hostilities from much of the international community unless it means the unconditional return of the captives.
PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU: “Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after the horrific attacks of October 7. Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas.”
You must remember what Amalek has done to you, says our Holy Bible.
Previously, when he said it, it confused everybody in the media. They thought it referred to passage in 1 Samuel. Later, the prime ministers office added a citation to his written and translated remarks to indicate Netanyahu was quoting from the Book of Deuteronomy. Both stories call for the Israelites to completely eliminate their attackers. In the Book of Deuteronomy, the text reads “blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”]
Article asking: How should the world interpret Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent allusions to the Hebrew Bible, when discussing his country's war on Hamas?
FADEL: And his public statements have raised alarm among some critics. He's twice referenced violent passages in the Bible to justify Israel's devastating response, including this one.
Full stop. You mean a significant world leader, is quoting the the BIBLE, and verychapter we are on as an example, a justification, of a military and cultural response.
Netanayhu has quoted Dt. 25 to explain, give understanding perhaps to jjustify the response, and the extent of the response that is happening as we speak. At the time of this recording more than 600 it still gives us understanding of what is happening on our news headlines.
Dt 25:17 17 “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, 18 how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.

You mean to tell me that the activities and inter actions of Israel with a people group Amalekites, their king, amalek informs and animates their activities 3500 years later? That is absolutely what I am telling you. That is absolutely what the Prime minister of Israel is telling you: He is referencing the response of Israel:
It should be like the response of 1446bc because the offense is similar
The people of Israel should not forget this
The people of Israel should NEVER forget this
The people of Israel should treat Hamas like that of the Amalekites:
Specifically: YOU shall blot out the memory of Amalek
If you wish for understanding today, in this situation, go to the situation in 1446 bc. We are going to respond in this way…and they have
Let’s talk about INTERPRETATION Now whether he is theologically correct in applying the prinicples of this specific example in Dt to the specific example of Hamas is open to interpretation.
We have found many appropriate applications of the truths of Dt. The question is whether Net. Is correctly applyin this passage.
Lets’ say someone cut me off in traffic, and I quote and apply this passage to the vengeance that I claim against that person, “blotted out” you’d all say that is inappropriate, overstated, misapplied.
What it DOES say is this: know your Bible. Know your history. Israel, to her great credit, HAS NOT FORGOTTEN something the Lord told them 3500 years ago and specifically reminded them YOU SHALL NOT FORGET.
Dt is applicable. Practical. Must understand Dt. To understand Israel, you must understand Dt. To understand our world, you must under. Dt.
