Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
The (not so) Secret Things of God S29e70 Dt29:16
The revelation of God is enough for faith, for practice, for conduct, and for right thinking. He has given us enough for everything we need here.
We have a tendency to be desiring the next thing, where all along He cries out, "I've given you everything you need." We will experience a small 7 minute taste of that today. This podcast is everything you need, at least for today. ;-)

The (not so) Secret Things of God S29e70 Dt29:16
100% reliable, promise remembering, and covenant keeping God. Just like always. Probably should respond favorably and faithfuly to Him
16 “You know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed. 17 And you have seen their detestable things, their idols of wood and stone, of silver and gold, which were among them. 18 Beware lest there be among you a man or woman or clan or tribe whoseheart is turning away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Beware lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit, 19 one who, when he hears the words of this sworn covenant, blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.’
Do not walk in the stubbornness of your heart.
Do not turn away from the Lord our God to serve, worship, yield to, admire any one else but Him; anything else but Him.
Do not bear poisonous and bitter fruit
blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart
Do not bless yourself in your heart saying: I’m safe, though I walk like this
I’m stubborn, but I’m OK
Don’t let there be a disconnect here of my actions andtheirnatural effects. This is an incongruous inconsistent even absurd analysis.
Consequences that you do not desire
This will lead to the sweeping away of moist and dry alike. 20 The Lord will not be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the Lord and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and the curses written in this book will settle upon him, and the Lord will blot out his name from under heaven. 21 And the Lord will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for calamity, in accordance with all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 22 And the next generation, your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, will say, when they see the afflictions of that land and the sicknesses with which the Lord has made it sick— 23 the whole land burned out with brimstone and salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lordoverthrew in his anger and wrath— 24 all the nations will say, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ 25 Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26 and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them.
27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28 and the Lord uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and cast them into another land, as they are this day.’
Consequences: Because you abandoned the covenant of the Lord there are natural, expected, predicted, previously know consequences:
You will be swept away and the anger of the Lord will smoke against you
Curses will settle upon you, calamity, afflictions of the land,
When another generation or foreigner observes they will say:
Nothing sown, nothing growing
A land overthrown by the righteous anger and wrath of the Lord
Why? Because they abandoned the covenant. Served other gods
No surprise that Lord’s anger was kindled against them
Don’t be surprised they were uprooted and cast unto another land
Don’t be the generation of your family to abandon the Lord
Don’t be surprised at the natural and spiritual effects of betrayal of God
Probably good to stay close to God; follow His ways and His words
Probably good to plant yourself into the bosom of the Lord which is to say into the bosom of His people
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Secret things of God
The revelation of God is enough for faith, for practice, for conduct, for rightthinking. He has given us enough for everything we need here.
What has been revealed is not to hard. It is not too far. Not undoable.
However, not everything true of God has been revealed ESV notes
There is more revelation to come.
We’re going to be in heaven x 10,000 years appreciating the depth and scope of Him. Every day of that, and for the days following, I think the appreciation will be fresh; not rote, not stale in any way
You may say: Hey, I want MORE revelation NOW.
If I just had more, then I’d believe. Then I’d obey. Then I’d think right. Time out.
Better: You have given me enough to see; enough to consider and enough to obey and enough even to be judged in comparison to
Maybe I can do a better job with the revelation I already have
If you ponder even just this passage, there is something here for faith, practice and conduct.—this is what we do every day in BE WITH ME
There is enough in a single paragraph to change the world
We want the SECRET THINGS, the special revelation, the New word, when all along, God cries out: you have enough. You have everything you need. I’ve given you everything you need. Now go do it.
