Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

What does the Lord have for me today? Is it a secret, unknowable, & far off?
No it is not unknowable, not too difficult, not out of reach,& not too complicated.
It is near. It is doable. It is understandable. It is here. Why?

Is what God asks of me today unknowable & unachievable? S29e71 Dt30:11
11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.
The Lord simply lays this out for His people.
Is God complicated? Sure. He is vast and holy and untouchable in some respects.
Is what the Lord has for me complicated? No. you could probably put the command he has for you on a notecard.
Is what He has for you TOO HARD? No.
Is what HE has DONE for you too hard? Sure. That was His job. Conquering sin and conquering death was surely beyond the scope of our trying hard.
He asks us to stay in our lane.
Is what is in our lane today TOO HARD? No.
But His command on this day, for this person,on this acre IS NOT TOO HARD
His presence, His BE WITH ME, comes with a power to help
If you have been a SLAVE to sin, that is have no power over your notecardcommand, this should be the best news in the world.
With His promise comes the setting free from the obligation to sin
With His indwelling comes actual HELP.
I am not saying it wont’ be hard. Im saying it won’t be TOO hard.
I’m not saying it is not a command. If you are sinning in any of the big three categories from 1 John 2:16 lust of the eye, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Commanded to stop
It is commanded. It is hard. It is just not TOO HARD
He also says it is not FAR OFF. It is not in heaven. You don’t have to send somebody to heaven and back to clarify what the Lord has for you to day.
It is not FAR OFF. It is not across an ocean. You don’t have to send somebody beyond an ocean to go there and bring back the command of God.
No, I have given you information, clarity and probably for your conviction. If you knowwhat command the Lord has for you; if you know by the conviction of your soul what area He has for you today.
Here is how you know it is for you:
It is for today. It is not for any of the tomorrows. It will be challenging enough to fill the efforts of today.
It will be hard. It just wont be too hard.
It won’t be secret. Though we may be tempted in our attraction to the secret things of God, this won’t be. How do I know what command the Lord has for me on this acre and on this day?
It is for today. It will be hard. Not too hard. Not secret.
If you don’t know what the Lord wants you to obey; to work on; Ask HIM; and ask His people.
If you asked your spouse, Honey? What do I need to work on in my life
Or, Mom, what do I need to work on in my character?
Or, Grandpa, do you think you could help me in an area I need to grow in?
Or, Pastor, where do you see the command of God for me?
No, not secret. Not easy. Not tomorrow. Not out of reach.
You don’t have to go over an ocean, it is within reach of understanding, of command, and of
All the commands of God that He has for you today are within arms reach
They are NEAR enough that you can know them.
Finally, they are also DOABLE. Achievable. Attainable with His help
The last encouragement of this passage: The word is near so that you can do it! So you can do it. It is ACHIEVABLE
I command it so you can do it
It is not not understandable, so you can do it
It is not too hard so that you can do it
It is not far off in heaven so you can do it
It is not far off across an ocean so you can do it
What the Lord has for you today is within arms reach. It is knowable. It is doable. It is not far. It is achievable with His help and His presence
All the commands of God that He has for you today are within arms reach
The commands of God are not secret. They are all over Dt. They are also all over your heart. They are in your mouth and in your heart. It will be hard, but not too hard.
