Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Should I be doing what David is doing in Psalm 23? S30e2
More of Psalm 23. We tried to look at *simply*
What is God doing in these 6 verses took a bit longer than I planned,
as always we found that God was busy in so many ways:
and what is man, our representative, our chosen knucklehead, our man after God’s own heart doing? Remember: Acts 13:22
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’
This is exactly NOT what the Lord found in Saul
1 Samuel 13:14
14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart,
The Lord seeks men and women who are after His heart
Perhaps David’s essential quality: large heart, frequently referenced, wholeh.
Then don’t forget the willingness to do, to obey
What is David doing?
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. …identifying in the Lord, content not perfect, associating himself with the sheep
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. …cooperation. Resting in the Lord’s place
He leads me beside still waters. …being led. Great men are LED. Have a boss.
3 He restores my soul. …restoration is in Him, ultimately. Conflict w People?
He leads me in paths of righteousness…being led again. Commiting to the Lord. He He
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…life is diff. Death present. Active: walking, being led, being restored, being shephered, b content
I will fear no evil, …set his mind. I say that because I HAVE feared. Not now
for you are with me; …replace the bad with the good. Rather than evil…You w/
your rod and your staff, …strength of the Lord, personal discipline. God’s rod and staff are used within the flock most of the time. Personal correction.
Occasionally external to the flock, external enemies, influencer
they comfort me. …I am comforted by the correction you give ME. The worst thing you can ever hear from the Lord is that He “gives you up”, that is, He stops His protective, loving correction for you. “you wanna play in the street…” go ahead, you will face cosequences you don’t want…
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows. …presence of enemies in the camp. Enemies are not yet conquered, though He could do so. Here I see the Lord’s sovereignty.
Yes, I don’t understand it well. Why disease, want, conflict and curse?
Someday soon, we will live in a heaven of no enemies, no hardened hearts,
no want for anything but for more of HIM.
Rev 21:4 No unwiped tears,no death, no mourning, no crying, no pain OR…
we will live in the place where enemies have gone from the presence
where enemies have been banished from the presence
What is hell but separation? If heaven now and then is BE WITH ME
Hell then is: BE WITHOUT ME.
BUT for now, enemies have not been removed from the Person and people of G.
Being a follower of God, being a Christian is, for now, allowing God to allow enemies in your presence, watching your interaction with God
Are we doing the activities of David? This verse: anoint head with oil
Watch your cup overflow. Be pursued and followed by goodness and mercy
Dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Identify with His ownership, His kingdom, and make my address the same as His address. valleys
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
Don’t’ forget: walk thru valley; walk under the shadow of death.
Death is going to be con
Are we doing the activities of David? Allowing God to be sovereign?
Trusting Him that He’s got this…even though there is death & enemiesnow
Meantime: be led. Keep walking. Be shephereded. Be corrected. Be associated.
Be rested, restored, anointed,and comforted.
Be all this under the shadow of death, valleys, enemies close at hand
Yes, enemies, but presence of the Lord as witness to them.
Set mind on fearlessness, on faith, on planting in His location,
on acknowledging His presence
:what would God find? I have found in Michael…
Let what God has found be similar to what I find.
May I have the mind of God as I assess myself, my soul, my heart, my behavior
Do the activities of David
