Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
If you are crushed in Spirit, have I got a God for you! S30e20 Psalm 34
As this video goes out, it will find those who are crushed of spirit. It will land upon those who are brokenhearted. If that is you today, the Lord has a sweet gift for you today in Psalm 34.
As I think of it, brokenheartedness is to be distinguished from rebellion. Rebellion is giving God the middle finger. Brokenheartedness is reaching out to God with all our crushed fingers. The Lord promises a precious part of the experience of Him: HIS NEARNESS. To my crushed brothers and sisters, may the Lord be NEAR today.

The Psalms of My Friends
If you are crushed in Spirit, have I got a God for you! S30e19 Psalm 34
Yesterday we used the TASTES of Norway as an illustration that the Lord can use tastes to both sample of him,
And to trigger remembrances that walk us back to reality.
Taste can help us remember reality
So far in Ps 34 , (22)David has set his mouth to the blessing setting.
1 I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!
It is the humble, yielding person who of seeking, asking, listening, looking to Him
What happens when the poor cry out? When His people fear Him ?
He answers, He delivers, He fixes the faces of those who bend toward Him
They are radient, they are not ashamed, they’re delivered saved from troubles
8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
,Oh taste these moments with God
Sample the Flavor of what God is like, in your brain so you can recall it.
Were now going to enter a WISDOM section.
This is as if Lady wisdom herself speaks
11 Come, O children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 What man is there who desires life
and loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Turn away from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.
.Come children. Come actual children or come LIKE actual children.
There is an essential element of childhood that is 100% required to come to the Lord. Matt11: 25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children;
.Children get a special revelation. Ease of belief. Trust, childlike trust.
Mt 19:14 Let the children come to me and do not hinder them, for to suchbelongs the kingdom of heaven. –The kingdom belongs to ACTUAL children
The kingdom belongs to those who become like children. Are spirituallychild-like. Only 2 kinds of people in the kingdom: children, child-like adults.
Mt18:1 Knucklehead disciples: Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven
.God receives children, actual children. And those who turn and become likechildren. HUMILITY
Here in Ps 34, children LISTEN and learn the fear, respect, bigness of the Lord.
Children are learners, lovers, and are without guile. Real. When they are hungry they tell you…Tired…unhappy. HonoestyHumble, dependent.
Be like a spiritual child as you come to Ps 34.
Bring your reality. Tell Him about it. Know that He is bigger and knows more than you. Trust Him in His provision.
Not out of bounds that we see Him as a parent: His eyes are toward us. His ears are tuned to our cry.
His face is against those who are against His children.
15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous
and his ears toward their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears
and delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.
.It is insulting for a prideful person to be informed that a person must be as a child to receive the Lord and the Lord’s provision. Oh, but what a provision:
Don’t you WANT His eye toward you
His ear toward your cry, the cry of the righteous, the children
His face against those who do evil,
The Lord will find a spiritually geographic association; a proximity to those who have the right heart toward Him. : Broken-hearted. smashed into pieces. Shattered. Let’s ask: What is the response of God toward the broken hearted?
God has a special response, toward that woundedness:. NEARNESS.
When were you brokenhearted? When was the last time you were smashed into pieces. It is often there that the nearness of God is easiest to see. Here in Ps 34: we get His eyes toward; His ears toward, his face against evil, His deliverance as He describes it. And the nearness to the broken hearted and the saving of th e crushed in Spirit.
If you are crushed in Spirit, have I got a God for you!
I have a God who has GOT YOU
If you are a child, have I got a God for you
I I have a God who has GOT YOU
If you can become like a child, I have a God for you.
I have a God who has GOT YOU
34:18The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.
