Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
If you could ask God for ONE THING, what would it be? S30e47 Ps27
With his last spiritual quarter, David makes one last phone call to the Lord. What does he ask for? We will be flies on the wall as we listen and admire to David's request.
We too might follow his lead or we might not. "One thing I have asked of the Lord, that I will seek after..." Perhaps we will seek the same thing that he did. Listen 7 minutes and find out. Subscribe in case this isn't the very last word of the Bible:

If you could ask God for ONE THING, what would it be? S30e47 Ps27
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.
Here is David’s wish. Here David’s desire. If he gets ONE THING to ask with his last spiritual quarter this is it.
1. That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
a. All the days of my life.
So this means he did not mis-speak, or mis write, or mis-sing Ps 236 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
I don’t want this to stop before I stop breathing.
Let my last breath here be in the house of the Lord
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.
What am I doing there? Gaze on His beauty
What part of God is unbeautiful? None. I will regard his attractiveness all my day
What part of God is unattractive? None. I will regard his charms forever
What part of God is Unappealing? None. I will regard his desirability endlessly
What part of God is Unsightly? none. I will regard his allures persistently
And to inquire in his temple
What is at the house of God that is no where else? Worship, fellowship, presence
Corporate worship. I did a podcast a month ago about Cynthia arevo, who I heard in concert. She understood, and displayed, THE POWER of a SONG.
This happens every Sunday in the house of God. Group singing. Melodicproclamation of truth. This connects with your soul in a way you cannot get in your living room your car or even your shower. YOU CANNOT DO THIS AT HOME. You MUST go to the house of God to be in this, share in this and do this right. Covid proved this.
Fellowship with the people of God.
You need the people of God and the people of God need you. Yes, you will occasionally be disappointed by them. But Yes, they will occasionally be disappointedbyt You. There is no such thing as a spiritual lone-ranger. To find a healthy Christian on a Sunday morning is to find them in the church. If you do not find yourself in Church on Sunday, is to be injuring yourself.
Why should I favor the people of God?
Because God faithfully favors His people from the first page of the Bible until the last.Christian Fellowship is assumed on every page of the new testament
God feels disproportionately attached to those in His kingdom, and so must you demonstrate such an excessive bias
God strangely calls people his friends. To be a friend of God is to be a friend of the knuckleheads that God is friends with.
God is inexplicably fond of His people, and if you are not similarly fond for His people, you have some explaining to do!!
Every Jewish and Christian example you admire was a worshipper corporately, and that should tell you something.
It is in the people of God that you will specifically see expressions the gifts of the Holy spirit as He promised. If you do not avail yourself of His people, it is also to say that you do not avail yourself of the HS
PRESENCE OF GOD.
For many centuries, the Presence of God was geographically located near the Ark, the tent of meeting, the tabernacle, and later the temple in Jerusalem. This was decentralized with the cross, the coming of the holy spirit and the liberation of the holy of holies symbolized by the curtain in the temple being torn from top to bottom. But the gather of the body of Christ is still essential. There you will find the peculiarpeople of God, uniquely worshipping, hearing prepared words by their pastors. You will see the love for the unlovely, and service that demonstrates a changed soul.
Inquiry
How am I doing Lord? What should my next steps be?
Will you help me please with this situation?
Will you hear my prayer. Will you receive my plea? Our plea?
DECISION TIME
Decide today where you will be Every Sunday for the rest of your life, so you don’t have to decide next Saturday night. Like David:
If you could ask God for ONE THING, what would it be?
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.
