Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Be ready for SINGING and SWORDS s30e50 ps149
Psalm 149 is about Praise and a Punch; Singing and Swords. We best be ready for both.
Somehow the people whom He has saved from judgment are to be a part of His judgment process.
That is why I hope someday to see you on the other side, with a song in your mouth and a sword in your hand.

A Psalm of singing and SWORDS s30e50 ps149
We have appreciated especially the ASSEMBLY of the godly
And the pleasure that the Lord takes in His people.
Psalm 149 is a small but mighty psalm. 9 verses. Two sections:
Praise and a punch.
Singing and Swords.
Worship and wallop
149 Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the godly!
2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
3 Let them praise his name with dancing,
making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
It apparently was also not unusual to connect the praise of God with dancing
Praise can involve dancing—this can be a business model for a Christian Dance studio and is beautifully done in my hometown.
What does this approval by David, by the Psalms, and by God Himself afford the just waking up listener? The body is presented as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptiable to God which is your spiritual worship. as it says in Rm 12:1
Perhaps this appearance before God will involve rhythm, movement, and a connection of the body and the music.
I suppose dancing can be done wrongly. Ps 149 points us to a kind of dancing that can be done to praise and please the Lord.
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
he adorns the humble with salvation.
5 Let the godly exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
6 Let the high praises of God be in their throats
and two-edged swords in their hands,
7 to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishments on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with chains
and their nobles with fetters of iron,
9 to execute on them the judgment written!
This is honor for all his godly ones.
Praise the Lord!
Psalm 149 ends by calling to mind the expectation that the faithful will one day be God’s agents of judgment through the world (cf. 1 Cor. 6:2–3 2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!; Jude 14–15; 14 It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” Rev. 19:14). 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.
The Psalm begins and ends with the praise of the Lord.
In the middle of this praise sandwich is a section of the Judgement of God and somehow the involvement of people who are faithful to Him.
That is, people whom He has saved from judgment are to be a part of, or at least a witness to, His judgment. More than witnesses. Participants…
The passages that call for two edged swords in their hands, to execute vengeance on the nations, punishment on the peoples, binding of their kings with chains, to executeon them the judgment written.
Be ready for a day when our faith becomes sight. Be ready for a day when His words of judgment are honorably accomplished by His godly ones.
What will the Lord have for us on the terrible day of judgment?
What will we do on the Lord’s day of judgement? What ever He tells us.
This psalm “takes a startling turn” ESV notes. We will have exuberant praise in our mouths; high praises in our throats and two-edged swords in their hands toward those who have refused his invitations
Psalm 149 is about
Praise and a punch.
Singing and Swords.
Worship and wallop
He wants us to join Him in both. What does the Lord have for us in regards to the accomplishing of justice, judgement and His wrath?
I don’t fully understand the tasks ahead. But He does say that participating will be an honor for all his godly ones to be involved in the completion of His adjudications.
Ps149 leaves us with a dance in our step, a song in our mouths, and a sword in our hands. Let’s be ready for them all.
