Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
The one thing you are not is: HIDDEN s30e53 Psalm 139
If you really knew, that your ENTIRE past has been known by God, how might you respond?
If you really could know, that every future step, future thought,is already known…what response does that elicit?
Is there a comfort in being accompanied? Reassurance that I am not hidden? Or are you a little terrified?
The one thing you are definitely not is HIDDEN. You are seen.
Join me in psalm 139 where David blows our minds about what God knows about me and when he knows it.

The one thing you are not is: HIDDEN s30e53 Psalm 139
Search me, O God, and know my heart. 24 verses. It is about being known by God
I’ll start with just six verses and then consider the mind exploding concepts that
David it trying to make us aware of: God is aware of his people, and ME.
I am know. I was known. I am seen. I am hemmed in by knowledge
Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart
139 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it. .
Being known by God
You know my BODY POSITIONS
Knowing your body position sitting, standing, rising, lying
But you could get that with a series of still photographs
In personal security, when there is a layered defense, there is the design of a body man. That is the guy who is most physically proximal to you. He’s the one that will throw himself upon you when the bullets start to fly.God is as close as our body man. This might be metaphorical, but if the following things are true that He sees actions and thoughts and Spirit from past present and future, than seeing what my body position is is small potatoes. But this is where David starts to get us used to the very idea of this idea. Jesus is our Physical and spiritual body man.
You know my past steps, positions, actions
You could get that with a series of life videos
You search out my path: Paths have: Where I have been and where I am, , That is big enough to get your head around
Here’s where it gets a little mysterious. Profound. Full of awe: You see the
next step
A path tells you where you have been but also WHERE U R GOING
You know my future STEPS, my actions.
You have sought this out. Pursued knowledge actively
You know my future WORDS
Before a word is on my tongue you know it altogether
NOT AFTER a word is on my tongue, you have heard it
To know the word, before it comes out is to know where word came from
You are acquainted with all my ways
Knowing thoughts, plans, words that are yet to come.
This whole psalm is what happens when the almighty encounters humanity
We are SEEN. We are definitely NOT HIDDEN
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
When I turn to squirm away, or at least check the boundaries of this relationship
I am walled-in by your presence and by your knowledge.
You hem me in in the present. THE now knowledge.
You hem me in in what is behind me. PAST
You hem me in in what is before me. That is: FUTURE . You know the future now
1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it. ..
I am searched and I am known. My actions have been witnesses.
My thoughts have been discerned. My words are known altogether. My paths are already acquainted by the Lord. O Lord. My future is seen.
And your presence is here, no matter whether I turn to the past present or future
There is no place I have been hidden from view. No place I will be hidden.
Even that which I do not wish to have been witnessed, has not been hidden.
That I am not hidden is on one hand terrifying.
v.6 this knowledge is too wonderful. Too mind-blowing.
That I am not hidden is on the other very comforting.
v.5 you lay your hand upon me
We will be exploring both sides
If you really knew, that your ENTIRE past has been known by God, how might you respond?
If you really could know, that every future step, future thought, is not to be known by God, but is already known…what response does that elicit?
Is there a comfort in being accompanied? Reassurance that I am not hidden
The one thing you are definitely not is HIDDEN. You are not hidden. You are seen
If you respond: Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, you are in good company with David.
