Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
What do your eyes long to see? s30e66 Ps119:81
I notice Two things regarding what the psalmist desires:
1. You cannot see it NOW (except in promise)
2. You cannot see it HERE (except in shadow)
So the TIMING is: Not now, not yet.
and the LOCATION is Not here.
The object of his ambitions are other worldly and slightly delayed. Let us respond in knowledge and in faith and in agreement.

What do your eyes long to see? s30e66 Ps119:89
what does your soul long to attain?
What do your eyes long to see?
Kaph
81 My soul longs for your salvation;
I hope in your word.
82 My eyes long for your promise;
I ask, “When will you comfort me?”
83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke,
yet I have not forgotten your statutes.
84 How long must your servant endure?
When will you judge those who persecute me?
85 The insolent have dug pitfalls for me;
they do not live according to your law.
86 All your commandments are sure;
they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
87 They have almost made an end of me on earth,
but I have not forsaken your precepts.
88 In your steadfast love give me life,
that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.
Here is what I notice: Here the psalmist’s soul longs for… something:
I HOPE in…
My eyes LONG FOR…
I notice Two things regarding what He desires:
1. You cannot see it NOW except in promise
2. You cannot see it HERE except in shadow
Here the psalmist longs for… something: YOUR SALVATION; fulfillment of the promise. I want what you said was going to happen, to HAPPEN.
Timing: not now, not yet.
Kind of want it now, but it sounds like during the course of THIS life I wont fully see this.
Hebrews ch 11 Hall of fame of faith after listing the prominent, know and the lowly unknown witnesses that have gone before, says this about them: And all these thought commended throught their faith, did NOT RECEIVE what was promised.v.39. The Hall of fame of faith is full of, the psalms are full of people who did not receive what had been promised…WHEN?! When they were still here.
But make no mistake, following this life, they all received what they were promised.
When is that goal? Some part, some shadow of the reality is realized upon the day of conversion; some later, on the day of my achievement of heaven; day of death. When my time HERE has ended.
Location:not here
Where is that goal? Is it even on this planet
Think about this: the “goal” isn’t even here. It’s not on this world.
Similarly: What is it that my eyes long for?
Some particular beauty, some particular place, some relational achievement; some academic goal achieved; some travel destination; some financial hurdle met; some life stage
The object of his ambitions are other worldly
His aspirations are not all here, and not all now.
He speaks of Salvation that is at least in one sense currently incomplete.
I did not awaken this day and found myself in the arms of the Lord
Now I agree, that this has been ultimately achieved, but not currently seen
I am hoping in Your Word: what you said is going happen
1. You cannot see it NOW except in promise
2. You cannot see it HERE except in shadow
the ends he calls for are not on this earth
So, My eyes long for something I cannot yet see:
I am trusting in a promise. So it begs a couple of questions:
Do I even know what the promise is?
How is my knowledge of the promise? Have I even availed myself of His history of the people of the promise? Walked thru the encounters of previous people and how they interacted with the revelation, the Word, the ways of God?
How is my faith in the promise? What is my response?
Am I hoping in Word, trusting in His comfort, not forsaking to the very end
Perhaps your death is immanent, as are all of ours.
Perhaps you are probing the power of this promise and the potency of the hope.
Here is what our psalmist is doing: He is declaring this deal with God solid.
He is reviewing and reporting on the potency of the promise.
It is his answer to the questions: is it real. Is God reliable? Is what He promised true.When do I achieve this promised benefit
When the TIMING is right (after this life, after my death)
When the LOCATION is right (paradise, heaven, new earth)
Are the promises real? Is the promise Maker true
Yes. Yes Yes. Join with the psalmist and me and the hall of fame of faith people who’s faith has now become sight.
My soul got what it longed for: salvation
My hope in the word was found true . Your commandments are sure
And My eyes got to see what you promised
I will SEE YOU there!
