Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Why might God be so good to me? S30e94 Ps51
David wonders in Ps51 why God might be so good to him. He asks for mercy first, then more than mercy. He asks for a fully restored, even thriving relationship. Why?
So he can be educational
So he can be evangelical
So he can be worshipful
So he can intercede for the house of God.
Don't let this great sin go to waste.

Why might God be so good to me? S30e94 Ps51
We’ve been dropped into one of the most humble situations. David moves from a position of making a decision for lust, adultery and murder. At the time, he thought all of it was a good idea…that’s why he did it.
But he eventually moves from murder to asking for mercy.
I was wrong. I have sinned. My iniquity is ever before me.
But wait, there is more: David wants MORE than mercy. He want’s the sin to theologically disappear and to be restored into perfect fellowship with God. He wants God to UN SEE sin so he can get to: 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit. .
PROXIMITY to God; PRESENCE of the HS; a restored POSITION of a joyful, saved place; the PLEASURE of a willing relationship.
This is audacious spiritual boldness. I humbly ask for forgiveness. I boldly ask that you’d take me FURTHER in our relationship. Will you FOSTER my standing with you?! You might wonder where he is going with this:
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
build up the walls of Jerusalem;
19 then will you delight in right sacrifices,
in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.
Let YOU fix our relationship—as only You can do. You alone can do the otherwise impossible work of forgiveness and restoration. WHY?
So I can be educational 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
So I can write ps51 and share this story
Let me teach you: don’t do what I have done, (I’m not recommending or endorsing a life of sin) but if you HAVE done, what I have done, and gone outside the borders of God’s ways, The DO WHAT. I HAVE DONE: put on your “I’m sorry face. Your I’m sorry words. Your I’m sorry actions. And then even ask: will you too God grant me, like you did your knucklehead David: MORE THAN MERCY.
Will you give me Yourself? I don’t deserve it. He didn’t deserve it.
You give grace. You forgive. You restore. I want it too.
So I can be evangelical:
and sinners will return to you.
:I’m not just in this for me. Are there any other sinners out there that may benefit from my knuckleheadedness and forgiveness?
Does anybody else need to come home to God? I, David want to be a part of the process of bringing sinners back to You, back home, back to your house.
So I can be worshipful:
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
What a voice it ccan be from someone who was so far off to be brought back home. What a tongue to sing out loud of this event; what a mouth to give you all the praise that you deserve.
May this turn around of lips of lust to lips of love of God be an example.
So I can intercede for the house of God
18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
build up the walls of Jerusalem;
19 then will you delight in right sacrifices,
in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.
I want YOU to do good to Zion. I know I don’t deserve it. The HOUSE of God does not deserve it.
And yet, I ask for your favor. Yes, I am asking for the special favor upon the people of God. Let us walk in a broad place. Let us stand in the shadow of the Almighty. Lead us not into temptation. Deliver us from evil.
Don’t forsake the righteous Ps37:4; Give us the desires of our hearts. Bathe our feet in spiritual butter.
Maybe God can be good to me so that I may go and be good to others
So I can be educational
So I can be evangelical:
So I can be worshipful:
So I can intercede for the house of God
Why might God be so good to me? so that I may go and be good to others
