Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Have you SET yourself against the Lord? How would you know? s30e110 psalm2
A king and a kingdom is condemned for "setting itself against the Lord" in psalm 2. But aren't we all little kings and queens of our micro-kingdoms? We too might be "setting our kingdoms" against the Lord. If so, how would I know?
If you set yourself against fellowship, you have set yourself against the Lord.
If you set yourself against service, you have set yourself against the Lord.
If you set yourself against His Word, you have set yourself against the Lord.

Have you SET yourself against the Lord? s30e110 psalm2
there is a curious, convicting verst right off the bat in Ps 2
it is about a king who has SET himself against the Lord
Stationed in opposition; taken a stand contrary to the Lord
2 Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
The KINGS of the earth set themselves against the Lord and against His anointed
Well, you are a kingdom of volition.
Have you SET yourself against the Lord?
How do you know if you have Set yourself against the Lord?
I’m going to give you 3 ways
1Have you set yourself against fellowship? 2Against service? Against 3His word? If so , you have set yourself against the LOrd
1Set yourself Outside of fellowship
Do you fail to run to church on Sunday?
There is no understanding of a maturing believer outside the context of local, weekly, generous fellowship in Scripture.
You will have to argue outside the bounds of scripture if you don’t prefer fellowship.
To set yourself outside of fellowship sets you AGAINTST the Lord.
Make this decision today: I am going to church every Sunday for the resto of my life. There. Decided. Don’t have to put any mental wrestling into it ever again.
Do you obey the way your church does fellowship?
Your pastor has already thought about this question: how best to foster fellowship in your congregation.
If you disagree with his answer to that question then something needs to change: either your devotion to that fellowshiop of believers, or more likely, your stinking attitude before God.
To set yourself outside of fellowship sets you AGAINST the Lord.
Run out of church on Sunday? Has the Lord given you an inordinate affection towards the knuckleheads in. your church? If not ask Him to open your grinch heart a couple of sizes. Devote yourself to being the last one out the door one Sunday and see what happens.
2To set yourself outside of SERVICE, sets you against the Lord.
If you are a believer, you have the gift of service.
Should be able to answer this question: where are you serving. Everybody on this lifeboat has a job. Every single person.
This walk should cost you something. I will offer no sacrifice that does not cost me something.
If you are not serving, you have set yourself against the ways and therefore against the Lord Himself
Here’s how you know you are serving: it will be inconvenient, exhausting and cost you something.
3To Set yourself outside of His WORD sets you against the Lord
You are now well into a podcast/video that majors on devotion primarily, and study secondarily of the WORD.
The Lord invites you into friendship with HIM by friendship with His word. There are other connections, but that is the primary one.
If I asked you to demonstrate to me your affection to the Word, would you be able to do it? IMHO, there is a direct relationship between your affection for the Word and affection for the Lord, which is the big point.
Prove me wrong: there is no spiritual growth outside of an attachment to the Word.
Get thee to a church where people carry the bible, and care about it, and teach from it, and rebuke from it, and worship because of it
And get the revelation of the father and the Son and Spirit that is within it. We’ll talk about that devotion tomorrow. KISS THE SON
How do you know if your little kingdom has SET ITSELF AGAINS THE LORD?
3 ways to assess: To set yourself against the Lord is to set yourself against fellowship, service and the word.
SET yourself with the Lord
Set yourself in fellowship
Set yourself in Service
Set yourself in the word.
Thank you for listening. Thank you for doing exactly that today
