Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
The 50 second Masterpiece s30e113 Ps13
When you feel like you are forgotten forever, I've got a 50 second remedy for you. David writes a little gem of a song called Psalm 13. He sings of his feelings and then lands solidly on the facts.
He does some big spiritual work: I rejoice. I trust. I sing and remember.
None of that is easy. When you feel like you are hidden from God, turn to Psalm 13.

The 50 second Masterpiece s30e113 Ps13
When you feel like you are forgotten forever.
and the day when you find that you cannot find God
when David feels forgotten He Remembers he’s not forgotten.
Remember, David FEELS FORGOTTEN –not to be underestimated
Fifty second psalm
This is The Little engine that could. Psalm13
First, it is a cry out TO THE LORD. Directionally do a bunch of good things, but FIRST: David Feels FORGOTTEN but gets direction right
Feeling forgotten when you are NOT forgotten
1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
But here is the transition. There is some real spiritual work to be done when you feel like this.
You aren’t the first Person to FEEL forgotten by God
Probably, this probably isn’t the first time that YOU have felt this way
Step 1 is feelings. But not the last step. Here it comes:
Boom: I trust. I trust in what? In your HESED. Steadfast LOVE.
Boom I rejoice. I rejoice in what? Your salvation.
Boom. I sing. I sing why? Because I remember Your bountiful treatment of me.
You have given me more than I deserve. Got a bunch of bounty coming my way. Bowlful of bounty bestowed at me.
Think about where we have been with this Psalm
David feels really bad: forgotten, hidden, alone and sorrowful and conquered forever, prevailed over, with intimate familiarity of enemiesand foes
This is 50 seconds of frustration to finding His way back
Feeling like a wreck to resoration
I’m a mess to I got stuff to do here: YOU are the LORD
I’m going to do some hard spiritual work of where I am placing the weightof my effort and concern.
We can get stuck in wallowing of our feelings
Or WORSHIP
We can feel of Hidden from God or remember the harvest of His bounty
Note to self: the harvest was of me. He put me into His family by no particular righteousness of my own.
Imagine going to church on a Sunday and being surrounded by a whole congregation who are so grateful to be there because none of them “deserved” this bounty
This is a group of gratefulness.
This is a group singing because of His steadfastness
This is a group who are humble because though they FElt hidden from God, they are actually NOT hidden. Not forgotten.
These are His who REJOICE
This is the psalm 13: the little engine that could.
50 seconds of passion and then purpose: Rejoice. Trust . sing. Remember.
Rejoice in what He has done for me in salvation.
Above my paygrade. Impossible to do for myself.
Trust in your steadfast love.
Hey, I am loved. I am with a safe Person. Solid. Steadfast
Sing to the Lord and remember the bountiful treatment that I didn’t deserve
Finish with this little masterpiece:
1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.
