Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

How to live forever s30e115 Ps71

Michael Smith Season 30 Episode 115

It is a privilege to get old.  Gray hair is a crown, not a curse.

Psalm 71 says: If you have gray hair, find somebody in your church without gray hair to be conspicuous toward.

Lord, revive ME, so I can revive THEM. This is one of the great purposes of the wisdom years. This is how you live forever.

How to live forever s30e115 Ps71

If you have gray hairs, you need to know this from Ps 71

Ps71 :99     Do not cast me off in the time of old age;

forsake me not when my strength is spent.

God is faithful to those who were born a long time ago

18  So even to old age and gray hairs,

O God, do not forsake me,

       until I proclaim your might to another generation,

your power to all those to come.

YOU have a purpose from God if you have Gray hair:

         It involves the character and power of God and another generation

Side note: My experience is that the younger generation is THRILLED to be seen, Charmed to be included, and honored to have attention given.

Purposeful: to proclaim your might to another generation

                  Proclaim POWER to all those yet to come

This is the way you live forever here.

This is the way an older person reaches into the future

We also took a slice of wisdom from Isaiah

Is 46    4       even to your old age I am he,

and to gray hairs I will carry you.

If He’s made you He’ll carry you!

Your purpose if you are old: don’t forget that you are not forgotten

Your superpower is: that you are with the superpowerful Jesus

     And that the next generation needs to be encouraged in Him

     For some of the younger generation, they already know Him, but are discouraged and tired. It is your job, if you have the privilege of your strength being spent, to get busy toward them

Don’t forget, you have a purpose. And it is to the younger

Don’t forget, you are carried, not forsaken, not cast off.

Yes your strength is being spent. That goes with aging. Goes with the fallen world.

Don’t forget, it is a privilege to get old. Don’t waste that opportunity

12    O God, be not far from me;

O my God, make haste to help me! .Geography. God is pictured as adjacent.His closeness is a comfort.

13    May my accusers be put to shame and consumed;

with scorn and disgrace may they be covered

who seek my hurt.

14    But I will hope continually

and will praise you yet more and more.

15    My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,

of your deeds of salvation all the day,

for their number is past my knowledge.

16    With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;

I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone. .Commitment to the hope in God. This is not passive, this is not casual.  Commitment to the tough mental work necessary in having a relationshiop with God.

17    O God, from my youth you have taught me,

18  So even to old age and gray hairs,

O God, do not forsake me,

       until I proclaim your might to another generation,

your power to all those to come. .Purpose. If you have gray hair, find somebody in your church without gray hair to be conspicuous toward. Be obvious. Be direct. Put yourself in front of them. Give evidence toward them.

19    Your righteousness, O God,

reaches the high heavens.

       You who have done great things,

O God, who is like you? .One of the great questions of scripture. A: nobody

20    You who have made me see many troubles and calamities

will revive me again;

       from the depths of the earth

you will bring me up again.

21    You will increase my greatness

and comfort me again.

22    I will also praise you with the harp

for your faithfulness, O my God;

       I will sing praises to you with the lyre,

O Holy One of Israel.

23    My lips will shout for joy,

when I sing praises to you;

my soul also, which you have redeemed.

24    And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,

       for they have been put to shame and disappointed

who sought to do me hurt. . .

Oh Lord, revive me, so I can revive the next gen

Comfort me so I can comfort them

Even increase my greatness, so I can give it all to them

Why Ps 71. Because you wont be here forever. There is work to be done for the glory of God specifically to the next gen

Ps. 71 is how you live forever.
