I have calmed and quieted my soul s30e125 Ps131

35 second psalm

I Have Calmed and Quieted My Soul

131 A Song of Ascents. Of David.

1    O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;

my eyes are not raised too high;

       I do not occupy myself with things

too great and too marvelous for me.

2    But I have calmed and quieted my soul,

like a weaned child with its mother;

like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3    O Israel, hope in the Lord

from this time forth and forevermore.

It is about putting your heart in the right place

What to occupy myself with: Calming and quieting my soul; hope in the Lord

What not to occupy myself with: PRIDE

A heart that is lifted up; eyes that are raised too high

     Pride is a root of so many of the pitfalls of a relationship with people, and especially the Lord. Our biggest sin would be pride in opposition to the humility He asks. Submit ourselves.

     Pride never prepares a man for paradise

     Ruthlessly fight pride with service; with truth

1 Peter 5:5

5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

.opportunity for God giving grace to those who do humility right

Opportunity for OPPOSITION of God. God opposes the Proud.

What NOT to occupy myself with:

With things too great

     With things too marvelous

Let me first say, that these videos are all about wondering, pondering, turning over the Scriptures day after day to help us all find Him and know Him and follow Him.  Meditation is a spiritual tool that in 100’s of places in the Word is recommended. So it cannot mean that. He WANTS us to know what can be known. He WANTs us to think about Him. He Wants us to admire and worship Him.  To do otherwise would be idolatrous and break the first of the 10 commandments You shall have no other gods before me. There is much to know, and He wants us to know it.

But also: there is that which is only to be known by the Lord for now. Here’s a few: Why does God care so much about us who usually don’t treat Him very well—literally crucified Him?

How are babies, new life, created?

How am I, at death, absent from the body; what is mortal may be swallowed up by LIFE

Dt29: 29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

When push comes to shove, I must rest in the concept that HE”S GOT THIS. And I am OK in Him.

Im thinking of the lack of panic the Lord Has: about prideful, disobedient evil running rampant for a season2 Thessalonians 2:8

8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.

     Sometimes all we can see is evil, and sickness, and death, and the fall

     Pffft. I got this. Pfft I got you.

I can be calm because of what He controls

I can be quieted because of what He has already stilled

I can be quieted because of what He currently holds

I can be quieted because of what He will someday conquer

     Pffft. I got this. Calm your soul.

      Pfft I got this.  Quiet your soul

     Pffft I got this. Mature your thinking like a child who isn’t STILL on breast milk at age 9.

            No, this is a mature way of thinking.

I Calm and quiet my soul, I grow up in my spiritual age,

From here on out, I HOPE in the LORD; I rest in the Lord. I wait for the Lord.

I trust that He’s got a way out of the penalty of sin.

I entrust myself to Him that He’s going to catch me at the moment of my death.

though His ways sometimes seem opaque or oblique to me, I trust that they are sovereign and good

I will not rage against the secret things of God.

I will not try to dethrone Him and enthrone myself.

I will not lift up my heart nor my eyes

I will not occupy myself with things too great and marvelous for me

I will let God be the holder of the truly great and marvelous, even if they are secret to me

I will calm and quiet my soul. I will hope in the Lord

God says: Pffft. I got this. so, I can say: there are a few things that are out of my spiritual paygrade; a bit too great, too marvelous

 I can Calm and quiet my soul in the confidence that: PFFFT He’s got this
