Getting a heart of wisdom requires some MATH.

We are to number our days. ( I have 1648 days left, according to Psalm 90)

Doing so affords us something precious: a soul that has the skill, aptitudes and ability to apply knowledge. Lots of things fade as the years go forward, wisdom is not supposed to be one of them.

The AWARENESS of the days will increase the VALUE of those days. Start with the next 7 minutes by clicking here.

How can I get wiser as time goes on? s30e149 Psalm90b

Number your days. That is: Know the number of your remaining changes everything. What if God wants to help us increase the VALUE and IMPACT of those days.

psalm 90: 10  The years of our life are seventy,

or even by reason of strength eighty;

       yet their span is but toil and trouble;

they are soon gone, and we fly away.

11    Who considers the power of your anger,

and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12    So teach us to number our days

that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Teach us to NUMBER OUR DAYS: What does it mean to NUMBER OUR DAYS?

let’s do just that. It surprises me that so much of the spiritual life is actually MATH PROBLEMS. I know that one of my listeners is a math teacher, so this lesson will be a blessing to her.

Let’s just assume the days of your life are 70.  Because v.10 THE YEARS OF OUR LIFE ARE SEVENTY.Do 70- your current age x 365.

If you are 20: 18000

If you are 40: 11000

If you are 60: 3600

If you are my age: 1648 days left.

Point is, these are real numbers. Finite numbers. Might add on another few thousand if you by reason of strength you live til 80.

Live as if your days our numbered.

What if you only have 1648 days left, what would you do with them?

Scripture recommends that we live in such a way to quantify, assess, account for, be accountable for our number of days

If we did obey this plea to number our days, what would be the purpose?  …that we may get a heart of WISDOM

It wants us to do something with the days, by increased

  awareness of the days.

The AWARENESS of the days will increase the VALUE of those days

We all have a limited number of days—though we cannot be certain of their number, we can be assured of their limit

Wisdom does not necessarily come with the sheer number of days. Some people are foolish from the start and then make a concerted commitment to it down the road. Psalm 53:1

1    The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”

They double down on foolishness; possible to become MORE foolish

You’ll need a heart of Wisdom: Why?

            To handle the aging process;

to give sight to the energy to serve and the targets of that service

To assess the Handling of limited resources,

or perhaps even trickier for the handling of bountiful resources

Need wisdom to direct WHO you commit your limited emotional and relational needs to .

As I see it, MORE wisdom is needed as time goes on

Or, at least plenty of wisdom is required for the later days.

So HOW CAN I get wiser as time goes on?

How can I get a HEART OF WISDOM? Here’s how:

By numbering our days.

You mean to tell me, that by doing calendar MATH It can result in a heart that is different: a heart that is transformed into wisdom

            It is characterized by wisdom

It is composed of wisdom: the pieces of the heart are wise

The sum total of the heart is wise

So that The conclusions of the heart are wise.

Having done the calendar math, applied it, you get something valuable, precious and desperately needed.

You get a heart that has wisdom to apply to the numbered days left

Many things fade in the aging process: bone density, muscular strength, balance, Degenerative arthritis, even eyesight

There is hope for the aging: there is hope in the assessing  because:

Wisdom is on offer.Do you want it? Wisdom means having the skill, aptitudes and ability to apply knowledge.

A bad example of this would be the marriage counselor who gets divorce.

A wise aging person, which means one number closer to the end number, weilds the spiritual numbering of their days to great effect.

What does a Christian heart of wisdom look like?Let me take a stab at it

Powerful: I know what I believe. I enjoy the strength of tested yearsunder my belt. And the resolve that Nothing is going to remove me from the rock upon which I stand.

Faithful: I am committed to finishing well; running this race until my last breath, and when it is my last day, to still be found in the faith.

Generous: I know that I must give to the younger in the faith.  They are suffering difficult days, and someone who has more days under their belt is of particular value.

Truthful: I know more than I ever have in my life about being a Christ follower. The wise applies the truth with love.

Discerning: Knowing more, having experienced more, having a longer walk in the faith, leads to abilities to distinguish and determine with more clarity

Prayerful: I know that the Lord is in charge of all realaccomplishments. Therefore, my petitions become more frequent and more desperate.

Wisdom is on offer here in Ps90. You get it by calendar math. What is the actual number of my days. It changes you.

If you knew exactly how many days you had left,  think about what would change? Who would you love? Who would you serve? What purposewould you insert into those days?

Wisdom is on offer, do you want it? If so number your days that you may get a heart of wisdom

How can I get wiser as time goes on? Number your days.

The AWARENESS of the days will increase the VALUE of those days
