What allows rest under “the shadow of His wings?” S30e180

Christians a supposed to rest in God. Ps63 says it beautifully: under the shadow of His wings.  What allows such rest?

First, His POWER.  It is like a thunderstorm. So says Psalm 29.

Second, know He's got not only the power, but also the SECRET THINGS taken care of. So says Psalm 131.

I will rest under the shadow of His wings Ps 63.because of the power displayed, ps29, and the power secret to me, ps131.

I will rest under the shadow of His wings Ps 63.because of the power displayed, ps29, and the power secret to me, ps131.

We left yesterday under the shadow of His wings in Ps63: 7    for you have been my help, 

and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. 

Why can we be so snug under His shadow?

Because of His power.

Because He is also a majestic thunderstorm of power

He is also, SHOCK and AWE as His abilities and reserve are described in Ps29

1  Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, 

ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 

2    Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; 

worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

He describes the raw exposed power of God

Experience the Power, the glory and the majesty of the thunderstorm out over the waters3         The voice of the Lord is over the waters; 

the God of glory thunders, 

we shelter under the wings of God because of His power, and protection, and personal attention.

          It is the same God, who is also strong, powerful, as a storm.

The voice of the Lord breaks the biggest trees 

10    The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; 

the Lord sits enthroned as king forever. 

11    May the Lord give strength to his people! 

May the Lord bless his people with peace! 

He is stronger than thunder, than lightening. He is sovereign in power over this world.

What source is the power, the gifts, that He gives to mankind.

He can give power only because He is first powerful.

How do we get the Lord’s peace? Only thru His power.

We have, like the saying goes, peace thru strength.

The only reason we have PEACE with God is because of the POWER of God and His favor in affording us the benefits of it. 

In conclusion: God is as powerful as a thunderstorm. So I am humbled by His thundering majesty. 

       We have power that we know about, and power that the Lord is going about doing: holding back evil; holding atoms togeterh; making nature work; giving breath to creatures; creating life; dealing righteously with principalities and powers that are against Him.

This is the powerful, awesome, capable God that I can rest under.

How? Under the shadow of His wings. The power demonstrated in Ps 29 explains the beautiful rest of Ps63.

How do we get the Lord’s peace? Only thru His power.

We have, like the saying goes, peace thru strength.

Ps131 reminds us of HOW we are to sit in that place:

131 A Song of Ascents. Of David. 

1    O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;

my eyes are not raised too high; 

       I do not occupy myself with things 

too great and too marvelous for me. 

2    But I have calmed and quieted my soul, 

like a weaned child with its mother;

like a weaned child is my soul within me. 

3    O Israel, hope in the Lord

from this time forth and forevermore. 

It starts: What not to occupy myself with: PRIDE

A heart that is lifted up; eyes that are raised too high

    Pride never prepares a man for paradise

    If you are prideful there is an antidote; there is a cure

    Ruthlessly fight pride with service; especially the little people, weak

Let me first say, that these videos are all about wondering, pondering, turning over the Scriptures day after day to help us all find Him and know Him and follow Him

But also: there is that which is only to be known by the Lord for now. 

Dt29: 29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

When push comes to shove, I must rest in the concept that HE”S GOT THIS. And I am OK in Him.

Sometimes all we can see is evil, and sickness, and death, and the fall

    Pffft. I got this. Pfft I got you.

I can be calm because of what He controls

I can be quieted because of what He has already stilled

I can be quieted because of what He currently holds 

I can be quieted because of what He will someday conquer

I will not rage against the secret things of God.

I will not try to dethrone Him and enthrone myself.

I will not lift up my heart nor my eyes

I will not occupy myself with things too great and marvelous for me

I will let God be the holder of the truly great and marvelous, even if they are secret to me

I will calm and quiet my soul. I will hope in the Lord

I am mixing, combining, psalms. 

Same God, Same characteristics, same problems of humanity

The ultimate Power of Ps 29 thunderstorm of power

The reason for the rest in Ps 131.  I can rest because He’s got this. the secret things.

I will let God be the holder of the truly great and marvelous, even if they are secret to me

I will calm and quiet my soul. I will hope in the Lord

that HE”S GOT THIS. And I am OK in Him.
