If you are going to "worship like a wise-guy", like the Wise Men:

  • you are going to need to gather with other believers
  • you are going to have to hang on tight to Scripture
  • You are going to have to be ready when God "sends a star"
  • you are going to have it cost you something.

That is how you can worship wisely, just like the Wise-guys.

 How to worship like a Wise-Guy S31e10

The wise men come to visit Jesus.—aMatthew 2:1 2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

How far’d they come? From another country. Far away 40 journey

maybe from babylon

How’d they know to. Go? PROPHESY.

To worship like a wise-guy you will have to hold on to scripture.

      Theses guys probably held on to NUMBERS14:           17          I see him, but not now;

I behold him, but not near:

a star shall come out of Jacob,

It was an incredible statement of belief that they

knew of this scripture in the first place. Then they

KEPT the scripture and then they

OBEYED the scripture

How’’d they get it. Visitation by the Jews, their captives 700 years You will have to hold on to it longer than you might have liked.

The wise guys held on to it for 700 years or so. Waiting for a star to “come out of Jacob” interesting name for Israel.

This name was favored by the Northern Kingdoms of Israel even after Jacob was renamed Israel in Genesis 35. Perhaps this indicates exposure to the Northern kingdom captivity, which started in 722bc.

They held on to this for 5-700 years

They weren’t jews. They weren’t of the chosen people

The Jewswere actually captives in the land for a couple of generations until God shook the persian king CYRUS’s heart

Im guessing Nobody was happy to see them again, even after everybody had a few hundered years to calm down.

Why’d they come: Mt2: Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” FIND HIM WORSHIP HIM

Worship was generally delivered LOCALLY. In the bible, in the history of the Jews, LOCATION is very very important.  This is why Jews travelled multiple times a year to festivals in Jerusalem. Because that is where God lived specifically.  That is why the Ethiopian official travelled many hundreds of Miles in the Book of Acts to go an worship in Jerusalem.

Faithful people go to worship in the house of God—which was for a long time ONLY located in Jerusalem

To worship like a wise guy you will have to go to the house of God

There are gifts and exposures that to experience you have to be in the building or in the gathering of believers

You cannot fully appreciate them when you are at home

A shut in is one who cannot, due to health, get going to the gather ing of believers on a Sunday.so If you are not a shut-in, Then be a worshipper, who gets going and gets together on a Sunday****

To worship like a wise guy you will have to gather together

There were wise guys no a wise man

Specifically, a wise MAN finds other wise MEN to worship with

A wise woman finds other wise women to worship with

worship like a wise guy you’ll have to hold on to scripture.

         God loves His people

         God loves His Word.

They say these are the only two things to truly last

God loves when His people expose themselves to His word, read it, treasure it, remember it, teach it, make a doctrine out of it, make decisions because of it, and like the wise-guys, WAIT on it.

Specifically they waited for 700ish years to for a star to pop up, ready to “obey it”

I’d guess this was longer than they wanted to, multi generationally.  Think about this : God gives a promise in scripture that you wait for a lifetime, and then 35 generations go by until its fulfillment! Now That is some faithful waiting.

To worship like a wise guy it is going to cost you something:

         Frankincense

It is a gum resing from balsam trees

Cut incisions into trunk, yielding amber color gum

TREES native to SHEBA yemen 1400 miles in southern arabia and Somaliland 1600 miles across gulf of aden of the Indian ocean

Not native to Israel

         Scarcity, expense. Camels importation

Is one of the ingredients of holy incense used for worship in the tabernacle.

is a resin and is the only incense permitted on the altar. In Ex the Jews were instructed to make an incense out of spices and out of one main incense: Frankincense.  No unauthorized concoctions were allowed.  Frankincense was the smell at the altar of sacrifice.

Jesus is the permitted sacrificial incense. Jesus’ house would have smelled like the sacrificial offering

The house of Jesus would smell like the tabernacle and temple

Identification of that smell would indicate the presence of God

To worship like a wise-guy there would be expense.
