Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. I’m thinking today of the Original Episode IV A new hope were Obi-Wan Kenobi is on the desert planet tatooine. He plays an old “Jedi Mind Trick” on the stormtroopers and has this classic line:
“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for”
Don’t we just want to call out to Jesus, as He picks His disciples:

Don’t we just want to call out to Jesus, Are you SURE these are the guys you are looking for? To start your Kingdom.
Jesus picks 4 guys. 100% of them will betray, flee Jesus when He needs them most. Yet, He says YES, these are EXACTLY the droids I am looking for.
Watch today as a couple of knuckleheads start their lifetime of following Jesus:
Mt 4: Jesus Calls the First Disciples
18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Jesus is in Capernaum
Near sea of Gallilee. 13 miles long, 10 wide
Four fishermen called to be fishers of men—be engaged in the spiritual capture of men.
Must be captured themselves before they will be of any use as to the capture of others.—currently USELESS not the slightest help
Imagine how much work is going to be invoved in by Jesus and the Holy Spirit to turn them into effective fishers of men. Read 1 Peter! Acts.
Why bother? Why forbear on each of these 4 guys sins? Some of which will be glaringly ongoing?
If Jesus can save these knuckleheads there is hope for me.

Don’t we just want to call out to Jesus, Are you SURE these are the guys you are looking for?
To build your kingdom? To not betray you.? To not disappoint you? To see thru to their last heartbeat? To see thru to eternity.
To specifically forgive their specific sins.
There lot is an unfaithful kind. These specifically are an unfaithful kind.
I want to call out to Jesus as he starts with these 4 knuckleheads:
“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for”
Lord, I don’t think so. You can probably do better!
Fishers of men: these are fishers of fish, not men.
Raw recruit doesn’t even begin to describe THEM
Lord, they are on step ONE they follow. To their credit.
But do you see how far each of them has to go before they are effective in their call to fish men and women?
“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for”
I am calling out to the Lord as I read this story
Here is what I hear Jesus saying by this passage and all the rest of them in the NT: No, these are exactly the kind of droids that Jesus is after.
These are exactly my recurits.
This is exactly who gets into the kingdome.
This are precisely who are my people
I am saying to the Lord: are you sure? Really? These guys?
Lord’s response for these, and for the other 11, and for even Judas. Yes, these are my recurits. I offer the kingdom. I offer the relationship with the KING.
For these 4, total knuckleheads, I am seeing them all the way thru to their fruitfulness. They are going to be an asset to kingdom. They are going to be fruitful, and faithful in their own way.
I, the Lord chose to work with people. “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” THESE ARE my droids. These are my people. I’m offering relationship of Myself to them. Some will come. Some will not, but I know this: these are the droids I have been looking for and making a salvation plan for 1000’s of years. Remember? I walked in the garden of Eden in the cool of the day with them AFTER they sinned. Rescue started. Relationship continues
They were my droids then and are now. I have been looking for them and acting on their behalf ever since.
Are you in God’s kingdom?
Are you one of God’s droids? I hope so.
He’s been looking exactly for you.
Have you responded His call to follow Him?
If so, you are exactly the droids He’s been looking for.
