Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

When Jesus came, He healed EVERYBODY in His little orbit.
Does He still heal? If so HOW and What does He heal?
Also, what might the attention of the Lord during my affliction look like?
Write this down: We have the ATTENTION of the Lord during our AFFLICTIONS.
You'll have one of the afflictions we'll talk about in these 7 minutes. I guarantee it.

What exactly does Jesus Come to HEAL? S31e33 Matt4:23
We have the attention of the Lord during our afflictions.
Jesus Ministers to Great Crowds
23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalemand Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
Lets’ learn about Jesus today.
First of all HE’s HERE! He is a God who shows up HERE. Now.
Second, He’s working. His ministry life has started. What does it look like?
Third, it is AMONG THE PEOPLE v.23
It is to us and for. Us
It is a ministry of affliction, both spiritual and physical. Mt 4 :16 quotes Is 9 and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death,
on them a light has dawned.”
Darkness spiritually, darkness physically now lit up
From this moment forward, one MUST view the darkness of death and the darkness of physical affliction in a new light
Spiritual affliction: Jesus goes to the synagogues to finish the Bible, to make the final revelation of Himself
God’s people had shadows up til now and now get the truerepresentation. Hebrews tells us that the hight priest, the sacrifices serve as a copy and a shadow of the real heavenly things. Now that Christ comes, hisministry is much more excellent than the old, and even the covenant that he mediated is better, the promises are better. If the old way would have worked, we wouldn’t have needed a better way.
So yes, it makes sense to start in the synagogues. There one might find the Simeon Luke 2:25Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him
In the synagogues you’d find people and practices WAITING for the real answer.
It is there that there will be a great sense of readiness and relief for the devout, and of course resistance for the pretenders.
There He will be proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom with His words and truth
There He will be Healing physically
Therapeuo: to heal, cure, to take care of, restore relief TO BE AN ATTENDANT TO, give attention to
Give attention, serve,
How bad are the afflictions?
Well, the people had to be BROUGHT
Bad enough that they required the attention of the bringers:
All the sick, the afflicted with various diseases and pains
Demons, seizures, paralytics
Healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
I came to the physical world to currently and eventually cure the physical world.
This place was not made to be like this: no broken relationshiop with God, no broken bodies, no death, no fallenness.
WHERE does Jesus come? Right into fallenness.
Jesus comes right down to the falleness.
Spiritual fallenness—broken relationshiop with God, oppression by demons
Physical fallenness—afflictions, pain, sickness, disease
Jesus is PRESENT amongst this all. He is here giving attention to
Who are you? What have you brought to meeting Jesus?
Likely, you bring a Spiritual affliction
Likely you bring a physical affliction
If you weren’t needful, Jesus would not have needed to come.
What is your big Spiritual need? Separation? Sin? Pride?
What is your big physical affliction? Cancer, aging, limitation, pain, disease,
The people in the story got HEALED, CURED RESTORED
In my experience, that is not happening much here
BUT in my experience, something is DEFINITELY happening here:
The people in the story got ATTENTION, Care, PRESENCE, and the service of the Lord. Let’s call out for this
Lord, can you join us? Can you attend? Will you give presence to our fallen state. Could you care and serve us with your.
I cannot promise you who are sick and afflicted Perfect healing, at least not just yet. I can promise you this:
The Lord attends, The Savior cares, Jesus serves us even today.
Similarly, Jesus is interceding for us right now
Romans 8:34 reminds us Jesus is not at the right hand of God, who is INDEED INTERCEDING For us. HS Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Hebrews 7:25
25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
He’s here. He’s among us. He has not left us alone. He cares about spiritualand physical affliction. He is currently on the job interceding. He is restoring things. I can’t wait until He’s finished!
