Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

I’m so glad you are here. If this is your first minute in this poccast, you have chosen well.
I have wanted to explore this piece of spiritual real estate with you for a number of years, and today is our first step.
The sermon on the mount. One of the most famous pieces of the revealed Word of God. There is something here for each of us.
5 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
The Beatitudes
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Blessing. 9 blesseds for those in right relationship with God
And a Bunch of promises
Hidden here is Description of What His kingdom is like and What his peoplelike?
What are the characteristics that He bestows upon those He calls His own?
Cannot also help to ask: where is it that I can get a piece of the kingdom of heaven, where can I be comforted, Where can I get an inheritance of the earth, where can I be satisfied and receive mercy and see God? Where can I be called a son of God, and get a reward in heaven? A great reward for that matter?
This sounds so very good.
Would any COST, be too great? Perhaps This sounds like a pearl so attractive, that any price, even a great price is not too much

Perhaps not. On first blush: Onerous, demanding, upending, too far away, unpleasant. Forgive me for even suggesting this Lord
If not, join me in re-tuning our hearts toward this
Could the God of the Beatitudes—be helpful in making our heads and hands and hearts “Beatitude-ready”. Is there something in the way that could be moved?
Perhaps over the next few days, He could help move our stone-cold hearts even an inch toward the beauty of the beatitudes.
Or if. We are not that far gone, could we ourselves, RUN TO THE BEATITUDES of mind and soul.
I know there is something here for me and I am going to sit under the open mouth of Jesus until I find it.
Could the God of the Beatitudes even make us “BEATITUDE-EAGER”
What strange place is this where such great favor is poured out?
Is such a place available to me? Yes.
God wants you in His beautiful place.
God wants you to be enjoying the promises and relationship that is offered here.
This isn’t a prosperty-gospel. This is the PROSPERING OF THE GOSPEL.
God wants the promises listed here to be listed on your acct.
How do I get there? By His invitation, by His call, with His help, and my belief.
What prevents me from obtaining all this good stuff?
What monster would turn down these promises and benefits?
Who is the problem? Is it a stingy God?
Or does the problem lie with me and my willfulness
Help me to say: this sounds good to me
Lord make us Beatitude-ready
Make us beatitude-eager
Thank you for making such a place available to us
Will you PROSPER US by this revelation of Yourself and Your people
Help us, as we just dip our toe in the beatitudes, to be “Beatitude-ready and Beatitude eager”
