So you know, my"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":177.6,"endTime":181.41,"body":"experience over the last two"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":181.41,"endTime":184.59,"body":"years has been that every"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":181.41,"endTime":184.59,"body":"meeting is a lot more official,"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":184.59,"endTime":187.05,"body":"now it's a lot more, you have to"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":184.59,"endTime":187.05,"body":"schedule it, you have to book"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":187.05,"endTime":190.41,"body":"it, it shows up in your"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":187.05,"endTime":190.41,"body":"calendar, and so on. So that"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":190.41,"endTime":196.47,"body":"kind of spontaneous relationship"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":190.41,"endTime":196.47,"body":"isn't there. And as a result, we"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":196.47,"endTime":199.74,"body":"tend to get into that subject"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":196.47,"endTime":199.74,"body":"matter quicker, because we don't"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":199.74,"endTime":202.17,"body":"have that while we walked into"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":199.74,"endTime":202.17,"body":"the room. We we don't, you know, we"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":234.51,"endTime":238.26,"body":"tend to put ourselves into"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":238.26,"endTime":241.41,"body":"certain focus, when we're in"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":238.26,"endTime":241.41,"body":"certain spaces, we're not going"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":241.41,"endTime":244.77,"body":"to talk about certain things in"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":241.41,"endTime":244.77,"body":"certain contexts, etc. So"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":245.73,"endTime":249.18,"body":"creating, having those"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":245.73,"endTime":249.18,"body":"opportunities that don't have"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":249.75,"endTime":252.18,"body":"those some of those"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":249.75,"endTime":252.18,"body":"psychological restrictions"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":252.18,"endTime":256.47,"body":"around them, makes a big"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":252.18,"endTime":256.47,"body":"difference. You know, I get a"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":256.47,"endTime":261.27,"body":"lot of international projects."},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":256.47,"endTime":261.27,"body":"And one of the things that we"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":261.27,"endTime":265.98,"body":"always did, partly because of"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":261.27,"endTime":265.98,"body":"that was we had a kickoff"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":267.09,"endTime":271.05,"body":"meeting more meetings. So"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":267.09,"endTime":271.05,"body":"everybody would get together in"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":271.05,"endTime":275.55,"body":"one physical space. You know,"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":271.05,"endTime":275.55,"body":"we'd start the meetings, we kick"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":275.55,"endTime":278.31,"body":"off the project, we'd go through"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":275.55,"endTime":278.31,"body":"all the background, everybody"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":278.31,"endTime":281.4,"body":"get the same updates, etc, etc."},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":278.31,"endTime":281.4,"body":"But the most valuable part of"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":281.4,"endTime":287.49,"body":"that to me was always dinner"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":281.4,"endTime":287.49,"body":"afterwards, right, or lunch"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":287.49,"endTime":292.02,"body":"break, or coffee breaks or"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":287.49,"endTime":292.02,"body":"whatever, because those were the"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":292.02,"endTime":296.46,"body":"chances where you actually got"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":292.02,"endTime":296.46,"body":"to chat with people and learn"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":296.46,"endTime":301.47,"body":"more about them and dinner and"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":296.46,"endTime":301.47,"body":"you know, drinks afterwards,"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":301.47,"endTime":306.63,"body":"whether that's alcohol or not,"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":301.47,"endTime":306.63,"body":"doesn't matter. The that relaxed"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":306.63,"endTime":310.05,"body":"atmosphere was the times when"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":306.63,"endTime":310.05,"body":"you got to hear people's stories"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":310.05,"endTime":313.53,"body":"when people told you about their"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":310.05,"endTime":313.53,"body":"hobbies, when, you know, they"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":313.53,"endTime":316.59,"body":"talked more about what was going"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":313.53,"endTime":316.59,"body":"on in their lives, etc. And not"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":316.59,"endTime":319.71,"body":"everybody opens up the same way."},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":316.59,"endTime":319.71,"body":"But you almost always got to"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":319.71,"endTime":323.64,"body":"hear a little bit more about"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":319.71,"endTime":323.64,"body":"people who they were than just"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":323.64,"endTime":328.29,"body":"that work thing. If you were in"},{"speaker":"Dale","startTime":323.64,"endTime":328.29,"body":"those, the right social sector,"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":328.86,"endTime":331.62,"body":"yeah, I think that's a"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":328.86,"endTime":331.62,"body":"really important distinction"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":331.62,"endTime":337.74,"body":"that it was those more casual"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":331.62,"endTime":337.74,"body":"settings. So be that dinner, be"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":337.74,"endTime":341.31,"body":"that lunchtime, whatever. That"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":337.74,"endTime":341.31,"body":"allowed us that give us"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":341.31,"endTime":345.0,"body":"permission, in a sense, to go"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":341.31,"endTime":345.0,"body":"beyond the just the work"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":345.0,"endTime":350.19,"body":"conversation. So I think one of"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":345.0,"endTime":350.19,"body":"the challenges that we've seen"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":350.19,"endTime":353.64,"body":"in the last couple of years and"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":350.19,"endTime":353.64,"body":"it projects face in general, is"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":353.67,"endTime":360.39,"body":"that we we're often assigned to"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":353.67,"endTime":360.39,"body":"a project or assigned to a task,"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":360.9,"endTime":365.58,"body":"or we're part of a team. And we"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":360.9,"endTime":365.58,"body":"come in with some level of"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":365.58,"endTime":369.0,"body":"credibility because of the"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":365.58,"endTime":369.0,"body":"profession we have with the role"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":369.0,"endTime":373.59,"body":"we've been assigned to. And as a"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":369.0,"endTime":373.59,"body":"result, we don't really probe to"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":373.59,"endTime":377.58,"body":"understand the bigger context of"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":373.59,"endTime":377.58,"body":"people's lives. So things for"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":377.58,"endTime":382.56,"body":"instance, like, you know, if you"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":377.58,"endTime":382.56,"body":"grew up as a, you know, a kid"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":382.65,"endTime":385.74,"body":"whose parents were in the"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":382.65,"endTime":385.74,"body":"military, and you moved from"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":385.74,"endTime":391.08,"body":"base to base all around the"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":385.74,"endTime":391.08,"body":"world, even though you, you"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":391.08,"endTime":394.41,"body":"know, as a kid growing up may"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":391.08,"endTime":394.41,"body":"have found the constant change"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":394.41,"endTime":397.74,"body":"of schools and that type of"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":394.41,"endTime":397.74,"body":"thing, to be a real irritant."},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":398.46,"endTime":401.7,"body":"What it did for you was, it gave"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":398.46,"endTime":401.7,"body":"you some social skills in terms"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":401.7,"endTime":405.27,"body":"of very quickly ramping up in"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":401.7,"endTime":405.27,"body":"developing relationships, and so"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":405.27,"endTime":408.27,"body":"on. So knowing that, for"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":405.27,"endTime":408.27,"body":"instance, about someone knowing"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":408.27,"endTime":411.72,"body":"that their background, maybe a"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":408.27,"endTime":411.72,"body":"military background, or maybe a,"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":411.75,"endTime":417.15,"body":"you know, a long term, corporate"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":411.75,"endTime":417.15,"body":"role, or whatever that might be,"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":417.93,"endTime":421.02,"body":"enhances not only the"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":417.93,"endTime":421.02,"body":"relationship, but it also helps"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":421.02,"endTime":423.69,"body":"us to understand what you bring"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":421.02,"endTime":423.69,"body":"to the project. Yeah. And I"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":423.69,"endTime":430.65,"body":"think, you know, when we're"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":423.69,"endTime":430.65,"body":"looking overall, in this, this"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":430.65,"endTime":436.47,"body":"world of instant knowledge, you"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":430.65,"endTime":436.47,"body":"know, Google things or whatever,"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":437.91,"endTime":442.86,"body":"we can find out an awful lot"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":437.91,"endTime":442.86,"body":"about somebody, but never as"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":442.86,"endTime":446.31,"body":"much as when we sit down and"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":442.86,"endTime":446.31,"body":"have a conversation. So"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":446.34,"endTime":449.88,"body":"interestingly, you know, one of"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":446.34,"endTime":449.88,"body":"the tools that I use is what's"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":449.88,"endTime":453.45,"body":"called a structured paired"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":449.88,"endTime":453.45,"body":"interview. And it's really just"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":453.45,"endTime":456.18,"body":"a bunch of starter questions."},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":453.45,"endTime":456.18,"body":"You know, what I like most about"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":456.18,"endTime":460.08,"body":"my job is or what attracted me"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":456.18,"endTime":460.08,"body":"to work on this project is, or"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":460.08,"endTime":462.81,"body":"those types of things and then"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":460.08,"endTime":462.81,"body":"the show notes will, we'll put"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":462.81,"endTime":467.28,"body":"in a number of key questions"},{"speaker":"Rod","startTime":462.81,"endTime":467.28,"body":"that you can ask.
