[00:00] Welcome back to the Focus B show. This is Katie Sudddhart here aka the focus b. So if you want to take your performance and your leadership to the next level, then you're in the right place. Listen up and connect with the magic.

[00:36] And today we're attacking the second episode of Expertise in the series T and pi greater time, energy and attention for improvements in profit impact and expertise. Today's topic is leadership enhancement. A fundamental aspect of expertise is being a leader. And they sort of go hand in hand in many ways, because if you're a great expert in your field, if you're an expert at what you do, you are leading others, the industry, in a certain direction to think in a certain way or to take action in a certain way. For instance, I often quote or think about Tony Robbins. I've worked with a Tony Robbins Results coach for a year and I really like a lot of his work. And he is clearly an expert in the field of human psychology and coaching. And therefore he is a great leader of many people in this field. And through a lot of his sentences, his works, his way of thinking, he influences and impacts the way other people think. For instance, I know that one of his sayings is that the past doesn't equal the future, which means that everything you've done until now doesn't limit you in any way to everything you'll do in the future. If you haven't achieved XYZ or you've never been a sportive person, doesn't mean you can't become one. And that's the idea behind it. And I often think of that sentence, and this has inspired me and has shifted the way I think and live and work. And therefore he is leading my thoughts, because what is a leader? A leader is someone who is leading people. And what does it mean to lead people? It means to influence them. And how do you influence them? You influence them in how they will think, how they will feel, and how they will act. So in the example I just gave with Tony Robbins, he influences the way I think because I think the past does not equal the future and this will influence the way I act. Therefore, he is leading my actions. This is really all that leadership is. And to be an excellent leader, you first need to learn to lead yourself. And I've done other episodes on self leadership. But to summarize, the basic concept is to improve the way in which you think, you feel and you act. And by being highly aware of your thought patterns, the way in which you think, the type of emotions you have and how you manage your emotions and the actions that you take, the consistency of the actions, the energy in which you show up. All of these things are different aspects of self leadership. It's probably the aspect of leadership I'm most passionate about. And the reason for this is I feel that if you're able to lead yourself, it's easy to lead others because it's harder to lead ourselves. And this is because we need to detach from our own thoughts and behavior enough to see what we can improve. And if you're leading another person, it's maybe easier to see that. If you're seeing someone who's always late, it's easier to think, okay, well, if they arrived earlier, that would be an improvement. But if you're the one who's always late, okay, maybe you'll notice that. But if your thinking is always negative, or if you have a tendency to blame other people, or if you default to control when you feel afraid, or when you feel things aren't going your way, you might not notice that. And this is where self leadership is extremely powerful. And yes, it does help to work with a coach. And if you don't do that, or you don't want to do that, then definitely journaling. Or having someone who's an excellent listener or meditating and reflecting on your day and attitude can support you with your self leadership. Moving on to the other aspects of leadership, there's how you lead others and there's how you lead your business. And these are really the three combined that I think of most, the self leadership, leading your business and leading others. Self leadership I just explained in terms of mastering your thoughts, emotions and your actions. Leading your business comes back to the vision, mission and purpose that I covered in the first episode of Impact. And this is where you are fully aware, in control, motivated by the direction you've given to your business. And leading your team is where you use your psychological abilities, your motivational tools. Maybe you do a bit of role modeling, where you show up with a fantastic state. Again, this is linked to self leadership. So if you look and listen to the episode on Role Model in Impact, this also is covered there. And you are leading your team to greater performance, greater progress, and to actually deliver the results that matter. So how is this link to expertise? As I said, when you're a great expert in your field, this will naturally make you a leader of that field, and vice versa. If you start to work on your self leadership, on leading your business more effectively, on leading your team to greater performance, this will help you and support you to become an expert. This is why nowadays the term thought leadership is so popular. Thought leadership equals expert. And you might not like to call yourself an expert, you might not want to say, I'm an expert, but this is what happens when you are a thought leader. So what type of things can you put in place to develop your thought leadership and to be seen as an expert in your field. Once you have worked, and you are continuing to work because it's a never finished job on your own self leadership, on leading your business and on leading your team, you also can start to work on your brand and your marketing. This is something I covered in the last episode of Profit, Sales, Marketing and Branding. And the reason why this matters is because even if you have excellent self leadership, you're able to master your thoughts, emotions and actions. You're leading your business in a great direction and you're leading your team effectively. If no one knows about you, you won't be seen as an expert. So you need some form of visibility to increase your credibility. And this might sound obvious, but you can have all the excellent leadership skills in the world and great leadership enhancement. If you are hidden away from everything, then people won't be able to relate to you and you won't be seen as an expert. So this is where really the sales, the marketing and the branding play an important role. So to combine the expertise side of things and the leadership side of things is where you both work on your leadership skills, as I said several times now, but you get the idea, self leadership, leading your business and leading your team. And then you work on the credibility, the visibility through your branding and your messaging and your marketing. And when you combine these together, you have a real leadership enhancement where people will start to see you as an expert of your field. People will start to see you as a thought leader and they will invite you to be a speaker, they will invite you on podcasts, they will want to hear what you have to say about different topics. And this is where you're not only increasing your expertise, but you're also talking with people of the same field, learning from them. And this goes back to the constant learning, the first episode of Expertise. You learn from them, they learn from you. And it's all a wonderful magical spiral upwards of leadership enhancement. So this is really the key idea here to make sure that you're both focusing on your leadership skills, seeing where can you improve in terms of self leadership. I've done several episodes on mastering your thoughts and emotions. There was one in the energy series of this season. There was one, the second episode of Time in this season was also linked to mastering your thoughts and emotions. So is it your self leadership you want to improve? Is it you're leading your business? In which case need be clear on your mission, your vision, your purpose? That was the first episode of Impact or is it leading your team and different aspects you can put in place here? And if you're clear on this, then how can you improve your visibility, your credibility, through maybe sales, marketing, and branding as the last episode of profit or through other things that you feel will give you that greater credibility and visibility. So these are the fundamental pillars when it comes to leadership enhancement, your leadership skills and your visibility. I hope you found today's episode useful or insightful and that it will support you to be a greater expert and thought leader in your field.
