SPEAKER_01

Welcome to Bourbon Boys. I'm joined again by Showtime.

SPEAKER_02

What's going on?

SPEAKER_01

Back in the uh the Bourbon Den, the mythical den.

SPEAKER_02

Just chilling out. Trying to stay cool.

SPEAKER_01

Trying to make sure the AC gets unfrosted. Correct. Anyway, uh we're Showtime brought a uh Brandon, Showtime, whatever you want to call yourself, brought a uh a bottle that's near and dear to his heart. You want to tell us what it is?

SPEAKER_02

That's at Still Austin. At Austin, Texas. The best whiskey coming out of Texas is in Still Austin. Um, if you haven't, check it out.

SPEAKER_01

The only worth the only whiskey worth drinking out of Texas at this point, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, okay. There's some balcone stuff I can get into, but I'm I'm with you for the most part. Um, so this one's kind of a funny one. It's actually a rye pick, and so they've just recently started doing those. Um, so I was excited to have that. So my cousin brought it. Uh they chose the barrel on uh March 16th, which is 316, still Austin. They labeled the bottle the stunner, stone cold Steve Austin, right? So that's kind of fun. It's a fun name, it's fun to drink. Uh it sounds like 100% Texas rye.

SPEAKER_01

It's what the Google machine said.

SPEAKER_02

On the on the label, it says aged at minimum three years. There are um like a like the print codes when they when they bottled it, and it looks like this one is like almost five and a half years old, which is pretty old for still Austin Right.

SPEAKER_01

Because it not figured get told.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure he told me. I'm sure he told me, but we were probably drinking this and I forgot. But this is a good one.

SPEAKER_01

You like those beanie hats.

SPEAKER_02

What's that?

SPEAKER_01

You like those beanie hats. Beanie hats, what do you mean? Like cat hats? Yeah, cat hats. The cat hat, yeah, yeah. My hat's too big for that shit. Huh? I gotta have a deep hat, uh, deep hat.

SPEAKER_02

Some of us are blessed in different ways. Sure. So, what do you get out of that nose? Uh I'm very curious to see. I don't want to say much because I'm very I've had this and I'm very curious to see what you think.

SPEAKER_01

We gotta keep talking.

SPEAKER_02

I'll keep talking. So uh, so this is actually the second still Austin pick I've grabbed over the couple last couple weeks. Uh got one from Colorado, uh Bevy's uh liquor store. Uh a friend of mine sent me one of those. So I've been very excited. And the the other one I have uh is like a year younger, and so it does not have the same um traits um as this one that we have in here. Those is baffling. Correct. So I'm very excited for you.

SPEAKER_01

You got a ton of alcohol? What's the proof on it? 120?

SPEAKER_02

124? Uh the proof is 126.02. So it's a it's got decent proof. Hi rye.

SPEAKER_01

It does smell uh I don't get a ton of alcohol.

SPEAKER_02

Correct.

SPEAKER_01

I got one right nostril, it keeps getting hit. That's obviously it's almost a candy bar.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Like candy-coated chocolate uh cherry.

SPEAKER_02

Correct.

SPEAKER_01

Cherry cordial. Yep. I don't get a ton of oak, which I wouldn't expect out of that Ace, although it is Texas, so I'd be interested to see what their Rick House situation is.

SPEAKER_02

So they've built a bunch of rick houses out in the middle of nowhere. Standard ricks? Uh I think I believe they're I believe they are. But because they bought some land outside of town and they're spread out. They have a really cool setup. The restaurant's really good. They do a bunch of distillery-only releases. The red corn, blue corn is some of my favorites. Alright, now you you had a sip now. He's pondering, he's pondering.

SPEAKER_01

Um good, bad, indifferent. It was going in a bad direction.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Yeah, really?

SPEAKER_01

There was some hay earthiness that hit me first.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it moved away from my mouth was watering again.

SPEAKER_02

Once again, a dark color too. They with that heat and everything, they're able to age stuff pretty quick.

SPEAKER_01

It was it was earthy. I don't know, I guess it was, it was going like a hay earthy direction. Yeah. And then it changed. Yeah. And it went more baking spices, uh, slight slight candy, uh, maybe a little chocolate toffee. It's almost it's like a boo rye more than it is a full rye.

SPEAKER_02

Right? So I actually get a little bit of cola on on the palate. Like faint.

SPEAKER_01

I almost never get cola. Okay. That's not a flavor process.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't drink enough Coke. You didn't drink enough Coke in your coke zero all the time. Yeah. Interesting.

SPEAKER_01

But I don't, it's just not a flavor that I pick out of things.

SPEAKER_02

Like this one I can drink a lot of. I like this a lot.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, it's making my mouth water so much, I'm not sure I could drink a whole lot of it.

SPEAKER_02

That's good.

SPEAKER_01

It's salivating.

SPEAKER_02

Your mouth wants more.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not sure that's what it is. It's more just like, I don't know if it's the the drying of it. That was a weird noise to make.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you I don't know if you want it dry or not dry. Like, I don't. So you want your mouth dry or moist? This was weird.

SPEAKER_01

I'd rather my mouth be moist.

SPEAKER_02

Correct. You took it like you liked it before you get there.

SPEAKER_01

I poured it heavy.

SPEAKER_02

Have you been to Texas?

SPEAKER_01

Uh went to San Antonio once.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. See the river walk?

SPEAKER_01

I didn't see much of it because it was a work trip. It was a uh sales meeting for sparkling ice.

SPEAKER_02

I imagine sparkling ice is pretty big in Texas.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. It was my first uh national sales meeting. And I the second night we were there, I went out with all everybody and had way too much to drink. We went for tacos super late. I got back to the hotel, went to bed, woke up 30 minutes past when the first meeting started. Walked in, walked, got dressed quickly, walked into the meeting room, and immediately knew that I had fucked up majorly. Yeah. And my boss pulled me in, he's like, I've they wanted me to fire you. I was like, Jesus Christ, it was 30 minutes. Right? Well, I walked, apparently I'd walked in and I sat across, I'd sat in the back of the room, like right across from one of like higher ups. Uh-oh. So I had chosen the wrong place to sit. And you were late. And I was late. Like a boss. So I learned uh early lesson to not drink on company meetings. Good idea. So from then on, I didn't, I don't partake. I'd have the two drinks at the dinner that they gave you.

SPEAKER_02

And then I'm good.

SPEAKER_01

And I was out.

SPEAKER_02

I'm out.

SPEAKER_01

I'd leave almost for every you're popular. I've got the weasels chat.

SPEAKER_02

No. Very popular. Moving, shaking. Sneakers and bourbon, man. Sneakers. Sneakers and bourbon.

SPEAKER_01

Big times for sneakers and bourbon.

SPEAKER_02

Big times. They keep you very busy. I know that.

SPEAKER_01

Why do you like still Austin so much? Uh other than the fact you love Austin.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's a lot to do with it, right? 100%. Fiend. Texas all day. Um, but they are putting out solid whiskey.

SPEAKER_01

You're just happy that somebody from Texas is putting out solid whiskey.

SPEAKER_02

100%. Like, give me a dog in the fight. Give me a dog in the fight, you know. Um, but no, it's still Austin's has been doing some great stuff. Their tanger release every year is phenomenal. Um did they were they sourcing to begin with? I don't believe so. I'd have to go back and do some Googling there, but I don't think they were.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like somebody sent me samples of their like one of their first releases.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I was like, that's good. And they said it was MGP or something.

SPEAKER_02

I hope not.

SPEAKER_01

I mean I mean, I get starting out, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Starting out, yeah. But now they're they're making their own stuff.

SPEAKER_01

You gotta make money somehow.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Especially if you're gonna open a distillery anywhere.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Producing whiskey makes no sense anymore.

SPEAKER_02

The number of distilleries popping up now, too, has been wild. Well, the number of them going under bit out of business is well that's what I'm saying. Like I think uh Ledge Rock up in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin here, they just they've been rolling. Um exactly. They've been getting some wilderness trail barrels.

SPEAKER_01

Um DP in.

SPEAKER_02

Well, no, they're starting, like they they're distilling their own, but they had, you know, get uh like you said, you gotta get something on the shelf. So they I'm sure bought some barrels and got their bottle, got their label out there and what's the other one with like a H in their name?

SPEAKER_01

I've messaged them about uh uh getting MGP barrels from them.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I can't remember where that I can't remember the name of it though. It's like Hansen or something.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

They're Wisconsin.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. But I want to say there's like two or three in Wisconsin that have opened up within the last year.

SPEAKER_01

Really?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. There's a couple, I mean, shoot, there's like three or four right here in Milwaukee.

SPEAKER_01

That have opened up recently?

SPEAKER_02

Not recently, I'm just saying distillers, but like you get outside of town a little further, there's a couple popping up. So it's gonna be interesting. I can't imagine cold weather whiskey is the way to go.

SPEAKER_01

And that's my aging your own whiskey at any point in the time anymore is is not right unless the unless the market changes at all, changes and goes the opposite direction.

SPEAKER_02

Which I don't see anytime.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think it's gonna happen. I guess there's a glut of whiskey at this point. Right. It's already aged. So why would you wanna I mean unless you just want to have an artisan or a craft.

SPEAKER_02

Or craft, right?

SPEAKER_01

You want to be able to call yourself craft and feel good about it.

SPEAKER_02

Uh I just and as you know it, like to be a new guy right now is so hard to get in. Right? Like, because there's so many labels, so many, like, so many legacy brands that you're competing with, you know, and if you're a small timer just starting out, you know, even like it's still Austin, you're competing against companies that have been up and running for over a hundred years.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the thing that Still Austin has going for it is it is a Texas whiskey.

SPEAKER_02

If they can just own that market, they'll be okay.

SPEAKER_01

And they have good artwork, they have good labels, they have good pro they have a solid product at a decent price.

SPEAKER_02

See, decent, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'd say it's a little overpriced most of the time, but not as overpriced as uh cowboy garrisons and all that stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Oh so as you I'm not a huge like proof guy. No, I'm not looking for hazmat all the time. Um so I get it.

SPEAKER_01

Every time you say hazmat, Howard pops up like a little gnome. Yep. He's probably listening to the literally a living legend.

SPEAKER_02

One of my favorite people.

SPEAKER_01

He was at the 4th of July party.

SPEAKER_02

He was?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. He brought his uh girlfriend? His girlfriend came. She's nice. Yeah, she was very nice. It brought his uh slushy machine. He's got one too? Yeah, the ninja machine. Or Meyer brought it. No. Hasmat Howard brought his. Oh, so Meyer got uh addicted to it at that party. Oh, he that's when he made the decision to buy his own.

SPEAKER_02

That makes sense. You seen it, you seen that dog hunt. I want it.

SPEAKER_01

He was my kids were bugging the shit out of him the other night to make a non-alcoholic one.

SPEAKER_02

Did he do it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he finally made it.

SPEAKER_02

Did he wash the container out before?

SPEAKER_01

His girlfriend made him.

SPEAKER_02

Did he wash the container out?

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna say no.

SPEAKER_02

No, so maybe a little, what were you drinking?

SPEAKER_01

He said there were there was tequila uh margaritas. Residue. So there's probably a little tequila residue in there. It wasn't enough to do it.

SPEAKER_02

How were the boys after? They were feeling good?

SPEAKER_01

Uh they were awake for a little bit because they had a lot of sugar in the sleep. That tequila margarita mix. They'd never sleep.

SPEAKER_02

That's true.

SPEAKER_01

Those I mean, I was down here last night watching TV and I could hear footsteps in my bedroom. Yeah, they creak, I go, go to bed, get in your home bed.

SPEAKER_02

I love that you have to say get in your own bed.

SPEAKER_01

And he'd come over to the door, he'd come over, they'd go, I'm going to the bathroom. I was like, I know the difference between over there, which is 30 feet away, and steps right above my head.

SPEAKER_02

There is nothing funnier to me. Um, and I usually I can laugh after. I've you know, I have I have one son, but there is nothing more desperate than a than like an 8 to 12 year old boy that thinks he's in trouble.

SPEAKER_01

It's true.

SPEAKER_02

He will throw anybody under the bus. He's reckless abandoned for everything else. How do I get out of this? He never does anything. I'm not wrong. So people talked about teenage years. I think some of those, like, like man, like 11, 12, 13 is tough. Tough.

SPEAKER_01

Their mom picked him up last week. Um, I walk back Brooks was in the bathroom, yeah, pooping.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Their mom picked him up. I walk in the bathroom, there's doo-doo on the wall. Uh there's a little doo-doo on the seat. Um, and the next time I seen, I was like, why did you uh wipe doo-doo on my wall?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't do it. I was like, that's funny because there wasn't doo-doo there. You whip poop, and then the next time I came to the bathroom there was doo-doo there, and I know I didn't do it.

SPEAKER_02

Are you sure that it wasn't you?

SPEAKER_01

I'm fairly positive it wasn't me. I hadn't started drinking yet, so I can't I can say with 100% certainty it wasn't me. Now give me a few drinks.

SPEAKER_02

Anything's possible.

SPEAKER_01

You never know. It could happen.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh but anyway, it's just like I'm like, Brooks, I know it was you because you didn't. He's like, okay, it was me.

SPEAKER_02

He came clean, yeah. Once he once all the data was shown to him, he knew I have no out.

SPEAKER_01

He he'll cop to it after he knows he's caught.

SPEAKER_02

Smart.

SPEAKER_01

I'm like, you're better off just telling me the truth in the beginning.

SPEAKER_02

That's a good lawyer, though. We don't make the deal until we actually have to make the deal.

unknown

Right?

SPEAKER_01

If only he was smart enough to be a lawyer. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Hopefully he gets too much. Give him time. He keeps pooping on walls here. He's gonna have a chance.

SPEAKER_01

Hopefully he gets his mom's intelligence and not mine.

SPEAKER_02

Those are the kind of guys that run this country.

SPEAKER_01

Say Donald Trump used to put walls in him.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. You're not gonna start. You're not gonna start that. You're not gonna start that.

SPEAKER_01

No political talk on the podcast.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. No. What shoes are you wearing?

SPEAKER_01

Those vans?

SPEAKER_02

L'ans, yeah. L'avans action. Two jean vans. Yep. Try to keep it pretty diverse. And honestly, I was just being lazy. I can throw these down without having socks on. And it's comfortable.

SPEAKER_01

I definitely need to stop wearing my work shoes without socks because my feet were stinking.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's a bad call, yeah. Yeah. You know, forest gump, take care of your feet, man.

SPEAKER_01

Well, my feet are fine, but they still stink. Well, especially you put them in shoes like um.

SPEAKER_02

You gotta remember though, you're in the market now. You can't be walking around with stinky feet, bro.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm in the market.

SPEAKER_02

Well, are you not?

SPEAKER_01

The market is bare.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not right. So we can't be out here with stinky feet.

SPEAKER_01

Not a lot of options. I wouldn't take my shoes off if there was a woman here.

SPEAKER_02

So you're always gonna keep your shoes off?

SPEAKER_01

I must have my fresh kicks.

SPEAKER_02

You're always gonna keep your shoes on?

SPEAKER_01

No, I'll scrub my feet and then I'm gonna see it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, yes, we might have to get some action there. Uh speaking of that, uh, I uh one of my favorite things to do with my kids is to go get a pedicure. My feet are in great shape right now. We went uh we went this weekend. Um kids went down to South Carolina with their mom and took them to get pedicures, so my dogs are smooth right now. I'm feeling good.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if I could let somebody touch my feet.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if somebody would touch your feet.

SPEAKER_01

They sweat too much. Well, they'd pay they'd do it if I pay them.

SPEAKER_02

Well, they wash it. They wash your feet.

SPEAKER_01

They're still gonna sweat at it.

SPEAKER_02

They don't just saw at it.

SPEAKER_01

Huh?

SPEAKER_02

They don't just come sawing your toenails, like they're gonna be gentle with you, they'll rub your calves.

SPEAKER_01

I wouldn't mind a calf robe. Exactly. It's been a while since I had a calf row.

SPEAKER_02

Everybody's got all that judgment. Oh, you get a pet- yes, I get a pedicure. I'm very comfortable.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not judgmental about it. It's your thing, your thing.

SPEAKER_02

That's my thing. I'm in.

SPEAKER_01

I just wouldn't do it. You go to the ones where they uh let the little fish chew on them?

SPEAKER_02

Uh I do not, but I have uh seen that. Uh we were in St. Louis and uh they'd be doing freaky shit in St.

SPEAKER_01

Louis.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. St. Louis is a wild place. If you're ever in town, go to the pink slip. Tell them Coach Maddox sent you.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think I will.

SPEAKER_02

You might learn something there. Just tell them I sent you. You'll be alright. Coach Maddox. They'll be like, who? They'll know. Alright, so still Austin. That's a that's a win for me. I like seeing the rides coming. How much is this? I think 75? 70. That's so bad.

SPEAKER_01

Well, five-year-old. Right. Five-year-old whiskey for $75.

SPEAKER_02

Correct. But they're producing it. They're trying to get, you know. But you know how it is. The other is it craft? To me, it's craft. They're producing their own, all right?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. We've already done two. This is the third, this would be the third episode we've done talking about crafting.

SPEAKER_02

It's a hot topic. People get people get stupid over it.

SPEAKER_01

They get furious. Furious.

SPEAKER_02

I just, you know. Does that make me a craftsman? A craftsman? A craftsman. Craftsman.

SPEAKER_01

You were trying to work Coxman in there somewhere, weren't you? You were trying to crowbar that in there.

SPEAKER_02

That's good.

SPEAKER_01

What else are we drinking?

SPEAKER_02

That's so that like this is cool. This is fun. But I'm excited to drink the next one with you because we we picked it out in Louisville ourselves. Uh the brethren are fools. Louisville. Louisville, what'd I say?

SPEAKER_01

You said Louisville.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Louisville. Louisville. Louisville. Louisville.

SPEAKER_01

Let it roll roll off your tongue.

SPEAKER_02

I got a dip in my lip or something. Jeez. Alright, so this is this is also 126 proof. Eight years. And I remember when we were picking this, this was it was down to two. And this one. So I'm very excited. And obviously, this bottle's been tapped into. They've done a nice job with the labels. I like the vintage like cream color label, not just a straight white. Like that's a nice touch. I like the split sticker. That's kind of cool. What are your thoughts?

SPEAKER_01

It's high rye MGP mash bill. Distilled in Kentucky.

SPEAKER_02

So with the MGP. So that is the high rye more sought after, low rye? Like, I know that's your generally speaking.

SPEAKER_01

High rye MGP is more sought after because the higher the rye content, the better it is at a younger age.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting.

SPEAKER_01

The lower the rye content, the longer it takes to age.

SPEAKER_02

Can you say that again?

SPEAKER_01

The lower the rye content, the longer it takes to age.

SPEAKER_02

That's interesting. There's a lot of things. It takes the same amount of time. Right, right. But I get you. I get you. It gets better. Gets better.

SPEAKER_01

It's more consistently good with the high rye content and the lower age.

SPEAKER_02

Science, man.

SPEAKER_01

Most of all the smooth ambler picks you had, the OG smooth ambler picks, probably 95% were all high Rye MGP. Okay. They had low rye MGP barrels there, but rarely did anybody pick it.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting.

SPEAKER_01

And this is a uh NDP. There were technically 101 bottles. Okay. We ended up getting 90 of them. They kept some. Because this was supposed to be a founder stash barrel. So they were going to put it out as their like launching of the brand barrel. But we were the first one to pick, and they really wanted us to pick something, so they were they pulled out, they pulled out all the stops.

SPEAKER_02

It was crazy too, because the there's two dudes just hanging out, and I like they kept giving me water and stuff, and they were actually the owners. Yeah, they're two of the owners. They're just real quiet. They like do your thing.

SPEAKER_01

If you didn't know that they you were going there for whiskey, you'd think it was a law office or uh uh accounting.

SPEAKER_02

Correct. Everyone looks nice. Everyone was nice in there.

SPEAKER_01

From the look of those three dudes together, it's a counting, it's a counting office.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, then we we show up with Peeper. It's us and Dan Pieper. I like if we played three on three, that game would not be close.

SPEAKER_01

All right, and it wouldn't even be Pieper would just be able to stand over the quarter. I just need Piper to check the ball and throw it in. Use those beautiful ankles to correct the ball.

SPEAKER_02

He's gonna check it in and then he's gonna talk all the shit though. He's gonna talk all the shit. We're gonna run away with that game, too.

SPEAKER_01

He almost didn't make it up because he wasn't gonna go walking up the stairs.

SPEAKER_02

Correct. Yeah, we had to go. Was it like the second or third stage?

SPEAKER_01

It was the second floor. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

People's like, well, I'll see you on the at the roof. I'm gonna take the elevator.

SPEAKER_01

No, he was like, I'll see you when you come back down. I'm not walking up. I'm not walking up the floor. One flight of stairs. I can't make it.

SPEAKER_02

And then he said a hell with that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he finally made it up.

SPEAKER_02

He made it up. He heard what we were doing.

SPEAKER_01

Then he started pouring whiskey on the barrels. Instead of dumping it.

SPEAKER_02

Wild times. I couldn't believe it was the first time I didn't.

SPEAKER_01

I told you that's a straight uh that's a straight Jay Mattingley move.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And Peeper's gonna be Peeper. Yeah, Peeper be peeping. That's my homie. This is good.

SPEAKER_01

You just nosed it. That's what it is.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, this is like it's so sweet on the nose, there's no alcohol bite to it.

SPEAKER_01

Now that's some nice legs.

SPEAKER_02

Right? It's very smooth.

SPEAKER_01

They don't break.

SPEAKER_02

No, they just run right down. Sweet nectar.

SPEAKER_01

People always ask if you're an ass or a boob guy. I'm like, no, I'm a leg guy. But I do prefer if I was picking, I'd take ass.

SPEAKER_02

Some ass guy, but like but thighs. Thighs and ass. Like that region is I'm in. I get it. Not I'm not a foot guy. Not in the feet.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not a big foot guy.

SPEAKER_02

Doesn't do anything for me.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_02

But it does if they're bad.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Then I got a problem.

SPEAKER_01

If you got a hook toe or if they're average or whatever, I'm cool.

SPEAKER_02

As long as they don't smell. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So you're not gonna date me.

SPEAKER_02

No. Alright. That immediately Heartbroken. It immediately eliminates me. Once you said you're wearing the work shoes, no sign he's out. He's out. They should put that on a dating app. Like you gotta check that box. Do your feet stink or not?

SPEAKER_01

Oh. That's rough. Everybody lied about that though.

SPEAKER_02

Then you could I think you should be able to do dating reviews on a dating app. Like leave a comment afterwards. Her feet stink.

SPEAKER_01

Some of those have it, like uh past dates of their comments about you.

SPEAKER_02

See, I'm not in that game anymore, so uh like what are your reviews right now? You gotta be like a 9.9 out of ten.

SPEAKER_01

I've never been on a date, so I got no reviews. Haven't I been on one single date in a year? That's alright.

SPEAKER_02

There's a lot of guys that haven't been on a date this year.

SPEAKER_01

Everybody who swiped right on me, I haven't wanted to go out with. I'm like, I'm not disturbing my peace for nobody that ain't worthy.

SPEAKER_02

It's lonely at the top, brother.

SPEAKER_01

Not gonna uh get past uh hello.

SPEAKER_02

You uh you might not even get to hello with some of the pictures, you see. I don't. This is so good.

SPEAKER_01

You're just smelling it. You haven't even got it.

SPEAKER_02

I know that's why I'm just like it's the sweetness to it.

SPEAKER_01

It's very sweet. Which I thought was when we picked it, I was like, this is completely different than most things I would pick.

SPEAKER_02

Correct.

SPEAKER_01

Once you drink it, I'll I'll let you you can drink this one. Yeah, and you could give me your thoughts before I tell you what.

SPEAKER_02

So I what I would say is when we were at there, this is the one I pushed for pretty hard, right? And Chad, like you said, it wasn't something you normally pick, and then we got back and it got down to the final two in the back room, and this is eventually what we went with.

SPEAKER_01

Um we picked a different one because they switched the glasses up.

SPEAKER_02

That was it, that was a wild, wild time. Wild time.

SPEAKER_01

And then we picked it because Peeper has to have short barrels.

SPEAKER_02

He obsessed. Obsessed. And my thing is if it's good, I that's what I want. I want the one that's good. I don't like yeah, so somebody said something to me I thought was very interesting about a whiskey bottle. Um, it's like the NFL draft or NBA draft combine, right? Like there's certain numbers you want to hit, but just because you hit those numbers doesn't mean it's gonna be a winner, right? Like, you know, NBA guard, we're looking like 6'5, 6'6. We want a 35 plus inch vertical. Now he may all have all that, but he just can't run, you know? So it's so maybe you want that seven-year, eight-year MGP that's not a Jack 14, right? It's a different beast. You get the sweetness, caramel.

SPEAKER_01

What kind of caramel? Sweetness?

SPEAKER_02

Caramel, like caramel sweet. A bit? Almost like a toffee. Like a little toffee, a little char in there, like it's been in the pan a little too long. It's very good. I do get some oak. It drink it's it it sits on the tongue well, I would say that. Right? Like it doesn't burn, doesn't it?

SPEAKER_01

It's got a solid Kentucky hug.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, like yeah, you know it's there. It's it's still high to me, that's high proof. 126.

SPEAKER_01

It lingers on your tongue.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. My mouth is salivating. That's not a negative thing. That's because it's good, right? Like, oh, I want to go back to it.

SPEAKER_01

I my I put my review, you didn't did you read did you read my tasting notes on the candy. I think it had like a it's got an almost dusty twist to it at a certain point.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's like a funk.

SPEAKER_02

So what's funny about I get that way late. Yeah. Way late. I don't mind it.

SPEAKER_01

You go on a little bit of a ride on your tongue, which how many of these do we have left? Uh not many of these because it was only 90 of them.

SPEAKER_02

90, but I would say, but I think you sold 30 already.

SPEAKER_01

We have 30 left. So 35, maybe, something like that. Definitely need to hold a few of these back. Scott thought they were gonna be gone so quick because when I posted the picture of it, everybody's like, oh, great. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, dude, you don't you don't realize that people don't they say that they say that right now they don't actually buy it.

SPEAKER_02

Correct. Purchasing and being excited is too much.

SPEAKER_01

So he started he started a whiskey club club called Sips, Southern Indiana something. I can't remember what the P stands for. And they got like a uh old Worcester barrel, and I think the store is still sitting on a bunch. Yeah. Cause it just people don't buy it. They don't buy stuff when they even when they say they're going to.

SPEAKER_02

Correct.

SPEAKER_01

Till they put their money down that then you can get it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, till they till or till they put that credit card on the tap and pay.

SPEAKER_01

That's why he's I was like, I don't even I don't even venture a guess anymore to what's gonna sell out quick or what's not.

SPEAKER_02

I and I think that's one of the things I really appreciate about you, Chad, is that you don't worry about that. You pick a barrel that you like or that's a certain profile and you go with that, and if it sells, it sells.

SPEAKER_01

And obviously it'll sell eventually, right?

SPEAKER_02

And I think that's your approach though. It's like it's a long, it's a long haul game, right?

SPEAKER_01

Unfortunately.

SPEAKER_02

Unfortunately, right? But if you get enough stuff coming in, you're turning it over, it's okay, right? Problem is when someone puts all their eggs in one basket and then that doesn't pan out, right?

SPEAKER_01

Just like the Bart 19 took a lot longer than I thought it was going to, but it was a large yield. The fact that we got 120 bottles out of it. That's a wild.

SPEAKER_02

That's insane. Insane. Insane. Insane.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we're at 20, we're at 30 minutes. We should do it. That was a good one. Let's do one more. Uh oh, we'll not do producing on the end of the podcast. So uh, you got anything to say in closing?

SPEAKER_02

Man, appreciate you guys. Uh, if you haven't hit chatter up for the bottle of the Brethren of Fools. Uh, it's going quick. There's not many left. If you wait, you will miss it.

SPEAKER_01

What's your handle on uh Instagram?

SPEAKER_02

At Showtime, so S H O the number three, T Y M.

SPEAKER_01

Is that your number three?

SPEAKER_02

Number three. So what's kind of cool is uh all my father, my grandfather all played basketball, and my uh grandfather was uh stationed in Okinawa, and he won, he was given the number three, and then my dad wore three, I wore three, like it just kind of my kids wear three, so now it's just our thing. So oh I forgot. Uh oh.

SPEAKER_01

Brandon's stories from Showtime. Oh, you want a Summerfest?

SPEAKER_02

You want a Summerfest? Summerfest story.

SPEAKER_01

This is a good fest. We gotta get the uh we gotta keep the uh the segment going.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um trying to think. Uh so I'm in the pit. I'm in the pit of Sean Paul.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Okay? Rude boy. Yeah, okay. All right, all the Jamaican stuff, like he's getting after it. It's cool. Concerts hopping. Guy in front of me pukes over the railing, okay. He's removed. The guy that replaces him does like who steps up in there, doesn't look as good. And I go over to him to ask him if he's alright, and he shows me a soda cup that has water. That's all that's good. And he said, Pure vodka mother. And I said, What? I said, What? And he's like, Yeah, my guy's got me this. I'm like, what are you talking about? So then I go talking to his friend. Do you know I'm security? Correct. So I go over and talk to his friend. I said, Does this this joker have a full cup of vodka? Like, he can't have this. And he goes, No, no. He puked behind the bushes. We were walking in. So we've just been giving him water all night, telling him it's vodka. So he was like so like puffing his chest that he's straight vodka motherfucker. I'm like, okay. Straight vodka motherfucker. Like, this is what they do in a Sean Paul concert. Like they get down like this and they roll.

SPEAKER_01

I would have thought it been marijuana.

SPEAKER_02

That guy in that state, he could have drank it. He could have drank marijuana.

SPEAKER_01

I would have thought that would have been the drug of choice at that concert.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Like some just chill out, man. But no, he's no shirt.

SPEAKER_01

He had no shirt on. No shirt on.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's struggling. He thought he was drinking straight vodka. So I I fist stabbed him. I said, You have a good night, enjoy the concert.

SPEAKER_01

I thought more of these stories are gonna be about fights.

SPEAKER_02

I try not to get too violent.

SPEAKER_01

I used to violate. I used to violate. I want to hear Coach Maddox put some money in the dust. I got you. I got you. Welcome up with something. That's uh Coach Maddox uh stories from Summer Fest. Summer Fest, yeah, wild times. So until next time, enjoy your pours and enjoy your family.
