That's Butler, yeah. Um that's where Butler plays. Yeah. Uh my kids decided to turn my AC unit down to 56 degrees at some point in the past two days. Uh, and I realized it, and when I did, I turned it back down. When I turned it down, it now wouldn't go any, wouldn't cool any lower than 75 degrees.

And for those that don't know, we've had a pretty pretty decent heat wave here the last week. So it's a not good timing. Uh-uh. So the boys got hot, turned it down.

Those are your words, not mine. That's all right. I can't I'm not I can't speak on their behalf, but I I would imagine they were hot at the time that it went down.

I don't think those children get hot very often. Luckily, I have my ex-uncle-in-law who was married to my cousin, or cut my ex-cousin-in-law, married to my cousin back in Kentucky, who's a heating and air conditioning guy. So I called him and he gave me some tips to try to fix it.

Well, he used to do everything. When I was in Kentucky, he'd do everything for free. He's like, I can't really help you if you need fixes. Like, you don't you don't want to drive nine hours to fix my shit for free?

He couldn't, yeah, he couldn't keep it. This ain't for me. Yep. I uh I stacked uh bird seed one summer during college, and I was uh that that's when I learned manual labor's not for me.

I lost my job with Wrigley and uh it was one summer and I'd just gotten married to Abby and I worked with my buddy who was uh uh carpet, he did car carpet cleaning. That was not a job I worked with. That's not no at least it was inside.

It's a big one for me. So we'll get back to some other stuff. Right. I always get always got a good story, but uh Jack 14 in the glass today. Uh batch two. Uh for me, I'm a huge Jack guy. Um, and I probably favor the the age state statement bottles over like the Coy Hill. I'm not saying they're better, I'm just saying the bottles that I gravitate towards tend to be those bottles. Um, so the 14's way up in second year for the bat for the 14 year and batch one was phenomenal. This year they took the proof down. It's at 117. So it'll be interesting. What do you what do you what do you think here?

Well, we already have put a little bit of a hurt on the bottle.

When did you when did you start loving Jack Bangles so much?

SPEAKER_01 3:53

Well, so I think part of it for me with the age statement is like I when I started drinking, it was old number seven, right? So I think that flavor profile has always been uh, but I would say early 20s, my early 20s in college, uh, you know, of legal age. We'll go there with that. But Jack sure black labeled Jack has always been a on my shelf. Uh, you know, Jack and Coke kind of came up in college with that.

So I'm relatively new to the Jack experience, probably in the last five years.

Uh I started getting into the the uh single barrels when I realized how good they were. Yes. And the barrel strength single barrels, and I picked up a ton of them. I had a ton for a while, and then I just drank through them.

And then I went down there to do a barrel pick with almond.

Yeah.

And we picked uh that was before they were doing barrel strength rise. They were doing the 90 proof. Was it 90 proof rise? Yep. And that 90 proof just fucked it all up. Just didn't hit nothing.

But the two, we picked two bourbons too. They were one of them was I thought hands down, Dan and I both were like, this is amazing. Yeah. And then they showed us the proofs, and of course, the proof or West had to have the higher proof one. Like, this one's good. We don't need to take a higher proof just to have a higher proof.

I get a lot of it's not what you typically expect out of a Jack Daniels. More like a caramel.

I think you do get more of that caramel that wood smell to it. Definitely oak. The oak comes through a lot more, in my opinion.

Alright, well, I don't want to give other people's opinion. So to me, it's a sweet oak caramel on the nose. I love the color of it.

They break pretty easily. That's still good. I mean they have nice legs.

Oak. I'm hit with oak about that.

A lot of oak. A lot of oak, and that faint caramel comes in the back. But you still get kind of like uh just a slight touch of like doughy breadiness that's very subtle.

There's almost a charcoal y finish to it. It's making my mouth water.

Mmm. So my question for you is like 10, 12, 14, what tends to be your favorite?

Because there's I haven't had any of the other ones.

Maybe one that I can remember.

So I obviously go back and forth um with the 12. Like batch three Jack 12 is way up there for me. The two and three were actually better than the one, in my opinion. But uh the Jack 14 is has been my favorite, and I think it's so much to do with that Oak Forward Jack. It just hits my palate perfect. The viscosity on my tongue is nice, like it right, your mouth's watering.

I don't know that I've ever had a whiskey make my mouth water that much on a first. Well, it is my first drink of the day.

There you go. So what so uh if we look at secondary stuff, batch one like exploded last fall. Prices went from like 400 to like six, seven hundred. So what's interesting to me right now about the batch two is that it's selling like 375-ish. Right? And like does it take a big jump up once it gets out and people taste it more often, or is that because I'm all for prices coming down.

Since I haven't had the first one, I can't tell if the first one's better. You said it is. I'd probably tend to believe you because this one doesn't. It's good at what I paid for it, which was mar was $150.

And selling them from the lot.

Uh what's funny too, well, because they did the original release.

So the hope is like that it brings the price down, but then I I mean we got we need people to sell whiskey on secondary, but like the price sometimes just gets enough.

Whoever puts it, that's why when we use I get furious when I see people posting pictures from the parking lot. Yeah. Because I'm like, at least get it home and then put it up. Don't take pictures from the place where you're buying it, basically flaunting the fact that you're taking advantage of them. Right. It is Buffalo Trace, so hopefully my boss isn't listening. But it is Buffalo Trace, so I mean, are you really upset about taking? But it's it's more of a look thing for me.

So I before I uh before we started recording here, I was looking at Unicorn Auctions and of the cured oak, I think there were 65 bottles up. You know what I mean? Like that's just I don't kind of work in the wrong one. Yeah, the new one.

Well, Buffalo Trace is doing a good job of shooting itself in the foot by selling all the shit from the gift shop.

Then you got all the people getting on there. It's always hilarious to me the next day when you see people complaining about how they run the lines, and they let people do this and that. I was like, you know, they got 6,000 people there.

We had I first time I ever set line for whiskey was in Corbin, Kentucky, which you uh probably remember that's southern Kentucky, like right before the Tennessee line.

I found out they were getting pappies. Okay. So I go at it was probably 11 o'clock PM the day before.

And then she tried to squeeze in and there was a almost a riot. Of course. My buddy Todd Harris, uh, okay, he was there too. So we were all like, Todd Harris was ready to cut a bitch.

Alright, well, we got a new segment in the podcast for at least a few weeks. It's gonna be Brandon worked uh Summerfest. Summerfest fucked up our uh our recording schedule.

Yeah, so I was working like uh 12-hour days Thursday through Saturday night and wrapping up around 1-130. Um so I saw a lot of stuff, and uh one of the wildest things I I felt was wild was uh obviously Well, hold on a second.

New segment is brand to tell stories from Summerfest. Just to just to give it a little lead in. Now you can tell the story.

So I'm I'm patrolling the grounds, patrolling, checking things out, right? Like everybody's in good spirits, and usually the like it's pretty clear that like around eight o'clock is when you know the drinking kind of picks up and the the concerts get louder, and the music kind of changes, right? It's gonna like in the afternoons, it's pretty chill, right? A lot of acoustic stuff. And uh for those that don't know, Summerfest is the largest music festival in the world, it goes for nine days, and bands from all over the world, and talent from all genres of music come. But it also is uh a spot for teenagers to hang out, and I was walking um just checking things out, and there was a group of uh maybe about 10 to 12 high school girls. Oh they were passing around uh one fireball shooter. Okay, so I had to uh excuse me, ladies, grab the fireball, like half of them start crying, like they think they're going to the police, like all this. So I dumped it out and was just like, let's keep it moving. But like the panic, and you you would think that I that those young ladies thought that I knew everything about their life. Like, are you gonna call my dad? I don't know who your dad is. Like just stop it and move on. But I thought that was like so 99 cent shooter for 12 high school girls.

Part of me wanted to watch it. Like, uh, how much like who's the one that takes the most? Is it an issue? Right? Uh, but no, I go up, take it, correct that. Uh, but that that was pretty lighthearted. But uh it's just wild. Like you see those kids, and and now I look at you, you get you're you got three uh coming up the ranks, and you know, I got my son's in high school, and you just keep tabs on them, is what I you know what they're doing.

I I mean it nobody's perfect, but uh you know the you see kids getting dropped off at summer fest at like four o'clock and then getting picked up at like midnight.

Like 16, 15. Like what they're gonna get in trouble.

Like, what are you getting like but it's wild back in the day you could do that, there was no cameras.

So you got away with the shit as long as you didn't hurt somebody or you didn't get hurt, you were fine, or piss anybody off, you know. Like now there's cameras everywhere, you can do anything that's how I tell them all the time.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Screw nope. No, and crazy thing is like when you look at some of those bigger parks, they can pinpoint where you are quickly. Like the because there's probably 150 cameras around the grounds, and then they can tell you exactly where something's happening, when it's happening, you know, who needs to go, all that stuff.

I saw some video of that. I guess I was shit.

I was probably in there. If you watch it, I'm probably in there because I um a lot of it was just getting it uh uh people out the gate. Right? Because you know, maybe too much to drink. It happened right by the gate. Right by the gate, yep. So then I so at that point it's just like have a good night, go home.

Um there it well, it's always like when something bigger happens, it's usually two or three things occurring at the same time. So there are multiple fights happening or arguments that spill over and to one big to one big because somebody bumps somebody else, somebody steps on somebody's shoe, somebody you know acts. Scuffed to J. Scuff to J. We gotta we gotta get down. We gotta get down.

That looked like a that was a quite a brawl.

That and a half, that and a half, but it you know, and uh I always struggle with looking at you know our young people and you know, maybe it's just me and Milwaukee, but I think we need to do a better job of uh you know allocating resources and and giving young people something to do that's positive. Um that's not the same thing that we've been doing, but that's just the ideal idealistic teacher in me.

Right? That's the that's the thing. I think the solution honestly is from someone who's much smarter than me, but I think a lot of it is getting those young guys involved and having conversations with them. What do you want to do? Like, what do you want to you know? A lot of parks took I mean they take the rims off the backboards for crying out loud. Like really, yeah, because they don't want people playing late at night, so that you know that seems like a lot of work to take the rims off of a basketball going. Well then you don't have to worry about basketball, you don't have to put nets up, you know, right? People aren't coming to that park. It seems ironic to me that we're deterring people from coming to the park because of we're worried that something might happen. So you're taking opportunities away from people that want to do the right thing and want to do it. Frustrating. That is a real beard. Onsai Saleh, the general manager of the Atlanta Hawks, he's been pretty busy this summer. A couple guys on Wisconsin from Wisconsin on the Hawks roster.
