Being in the collision repair industry for over four decades, and I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. In the past, shops didn't really value their technicians - they were just seen as replaceable parts in the process. But as car technology has become more complex, the talent level required to do the work has increased drastically. With the baby boomer generation aging out, shops are struggling to find qualified technicians. I do see some glimmers of hope on the horizon, though, some shops are starting to change their view of employees and realize that they play a vital role in the success of the business.
