The Mouth 'Tell-All' Most Dentists Don't Know - Uncommon Sense in Local Business
Show Notes

In this episode of Uncommon Sense in Local Business, host Deanna Blair interviews Dr. Minaxi Mirkal, a Board Certified Biological Dentist, naturopathic doctor, and mother that values a health-focused approach toward dentistry.

When considering a holistic approach toward health, one considers all potential options including conventional, modern medicine and ancient alternative methods. They all serve a purpose but all too often we rely on one alone.  Conventional medicine does not accept that we are energetic beings, connected and living through energy. A Naturopath understands that each part of the body is connected to each other, and the teeth are no exception. Teeth are like living organs. They have a blood supply and nerve supply.

Our mouths tell a story of what is happening systemically in our bodies. While dentists are not traditionally trained to look at the connection between our teeth and the medical issues within our bodies, understanding the biology of what is happening through the lens of our mouth can change the trajectory of our health and thus being proactive in addressing medical issues.

It is never too late to begin addressing our well-being and health. We often wonder at what age children should start seeing the dentist and the general recommendation is two years of age.  However, many infants have tongue ties making it difficult to breastfeed and learn to use the facial muscles correctly. There are not many lactation consultants who have the right training in identifying a tongue tie issue, however an educated dentist can. Having this impediment can become a bigger issue for the child later, as the first five years are important for craniofacial development.

Many dental fillings are made of metal. When alloy metals are used in dentistry, a battery effect occurs due to the saliva interaction. This creates an electrical charge in the body which can cause floaters, ringing in the ears, brain fog, and many other symptoms. Metal fillings that use mercury amalgam have been used in dentistry in the past and continue to be used in community health centers, however, the metal is a neurotoxin and damaging to health.  It seeps into the cells and takes a long journey to detox from it, with one side effect being thyroid issues.
