SPEAKER_03This episode we will be talking about the comedy horror film Ready or Not 2. Here I Come, directed by Matt Batinelli Open and Tyler Gillette, aka Radio Silence, and released March 20th, 2026.
SPEAKER_00Yay! I'm so excited to talk about this one because it's not a secret that I adored Ready or Not, and that Grace is one of my favorite characters ever. So getting to go back to this makes me so excited. Um, I've been excited since the day they announced that they were gonna do a sequel. And we have a special guest for this episode.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, in a movie chuck full of hunters.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_03We've got to bring in somebody who talks about hunters of a different kind all the time. Uh, from Still Slaying, we have our good friend Penny.
SPEAKER_02Hi, everybody. I'm excited to be here for my first episode of Run for Your Lives.

SPEAKER_00Can't believe it's taken us this long to get you on Run for Your Lives. I know, it does seem weird. I mean, we've covered vampire movies before. I feel like we should have brought you on, but honestly, I'm really glad we waited for this one because it's got that buffy tie-in because we have Sarah Michelle Geller in this movie. And first I have to say R.I.P. to the Buffy reboot that I wanted.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. There's a lot of sadness in the Buffy fandom about that and a fair amount of anger. Uh, some of the stories that came out about how it went down have got people pretty upset and angry. I uh was doing this thing where I was like, I don't think it's really gonna happen because I didn't want to get my hopes up and then be super disappointed. And it doesn't actually feel better to do it this way, guys. Go ahead and get your hopes up for things. Because I'm still disappointed, and all I did was like be a bummer for several months to all my friends.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, still the same level of disappointment, only it was preempted by negativity, and that makes it less fun. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, I feel like in the land of all the reboots that are getting made, it really bothers me because this is one that the fans really wanted and got behind, and I feel like some of the other reboots, I questioned who asked for this? Did someone want this to happen? Because I hadn't heard anyone talk about that show, but yet we're gonna do a reboot of it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the Scrubs reboot came out of nowhere. I was like, oh.
SPEAKER_03Loved that. That was I hope they get to do more of that because it was only like eight episodes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it wasn't bad, but I just there was no part of me that was like, I wonder what the characters on Scrubs are up to these days.
SPEAKER_03Like I just I was done. Was deeply obsessed with Scrubs, so it was that's one of the shows that like any inkling of a possibility of that. I was like, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. So that one was that was made for me, I think.
SPEAKER_00Well, I was excited that we were getting this as soon as they cast uh Ryan Kira Armstrong to play like the young slayer, like Sarah Michelle Geller had announced that. Pretty ideal. We we loved her in Skeleton Crew, like she was a bright spot, yeah. So amazing, and I thought she would crush it. I thought that she and Sarah would have a ton of chemistry and that it was gonna be really successful. Yeah. And so I'm so bummed that it's not happening, and I'm hoping at some point maybe there will be a reboot that does happen.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I don't think it's gone forever. I think that with all the changes that are going on in Hollywood right now, that it there's no telling where the legal ownership of the reboot rights will end up and what different executive they'll end up in front of who will be like, why didn't we ever do this? Um, we'll see.
SPEAKER_00Well, let's cross our fingers. Because we definitely, definitely want that. I want that, and I want this cast in it. Yeah. So keep the cast, fix whatever you thought was wrong, and do it. Somebody should pick this up because I think there's a lot of fan interest, and if you can swoop in and save the day, even if it's a couple years from now, it would go a long way with the Buffy fans, of which there are tons. Yeah. And they are dedicated. Definitely. So, uh, we are gonna kick this off the way that we always do with some production notes. It was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It's the follow-up to the 2019 film Ready or Not, which was also directed by the same people. They also directed another film we covered not that long ago called Abigail, which I also love that one. So good. I really love this duo. I just think that they're clever.

SPEAKER_03Radio Silence is is fantastic. I also highly recommend, I don't have it right in front of me, the name of it, but um Mike Flanagan has a podcast that he was at least doing for a little bit. I haven't listened to it if he's continuing on lately, where he just has like discussions with other directors, and like the first episode was these two was Radio Silence, and it is and they talk about Abigail, they break the movie down and then talk about a lot of directing stuff, and it was it's it's a great listen for sure.
SPEAKER_00They tend to work with some of the same actors and actresses because Kevin Duran was also in Abigail, and he was in this one, although I want to say not long enough because I like Kevin Duran and I wanted to see more.
SPEAKER_02I know you like him, so when I saw this in the theater and it comes up on screen, I was like, Daphne will be happy, and then I was like, sorry, sorry to the people around me. Yeah, because I don't believe in talking at the movies, but every now and then something gets me.
SPEAKER_00Oh I was so excited, and then it was like over quickly. Uh, it's okay. I'm due to do my annual uh rewatch of The Strain. So I'll be watching a lot of Kevin Duran as Vasily Fett for at least a month or two while I go through that. This movie takes place immediately after the events of the 2019 movie. The budget was 14 million and it grossed 42.7 million at the box office. Not bad. That doesn't mean we need another one. I'm actually happy with just these two. I don't need a third one. I'm I'm good with the two. Uh I'm happy with with the ending for this one. Was 108 minutes long. Pake, give us a synopsis.
SPEAKER_03After surviving one deadly game, Grace, and now her sister Faith must now outrun four rival families competing for a powerful throne winner takes all.
SPEAKER_00Wonderful synopsis. I wasn't sure where they were gonna go with this movie. I tried to be uh as unspoiled as possible going into it. All I cared was that Grace, that that Samara Weaving was returning. I I was in with that, and that the same people behind the first one were also gonna do this one because I've mentioned on the podcast before. That to me gives a signal that it's in good hands, it's in the people that created it, it's in the people that understand it, they can take it to the next space, next level, whatever. And I was not disappointed at all.
SPEAKER_03Wait, you say going in blind? That was I've talked about it a billion times on here. It's like I I avoid trailers, I don't look at like casting announcements, I don't look at anything, like information that's out, and c I'm like, no, if it's anything that remotely I'm like, I'm gonna see it anyway, then I want nothing. And it worked out very well because then watching this movie, especially the casting, because I was like, Oh, Elijah Wood! I was just like, I'm always happy to see him on my screen. Always. And then I get even more excited because then like the next scene, and I was like, and then Nestor Carbonell shows up. Which that's probably more personal, because like most people would be like, well, Elijah Wood's a bigger name, you should get more excited about Elijah Wood. I was like, no, there's personal reason for Nestor Carbonell. He's a peach of a man. Um and then following it up with Kevin Durand, and I was like, oh I just every scene like they'd show somebody else, I'd get a little more excited. Ah, there it too. So I was like, this is why I do that. Go into the movies blind without all the trailers and articles and everything and announcements. I'm like, because the little surprises in casting, even it just makes it so much fun. I'm like, ooh. It's funny. I don't get spoiled by certain scenes or shots or knowing kind of a plot. I'm like, I don't know what's happening and I love it.
SPEAKER_02I uh I do the same thing. I try to avoid as many pieces of information as I can. As soon as I've decided I want to see a movie, like when it clicks from the list of, I don't know, to yes, I want to see it, like I try to stop taking in any additional information. Um with this one, I was really, really going in because I didn't see the first one until after I watched the second one.
SPEAKER_03Interesting.
SPEAKER_02So I had zero background. I just had like a vague idea from like posters and stuff that it was like somebody's gonna get hunted at a party. Uh, and I knew Sarah Michelle Geller was in it, and I was like, all right, whatever. Like, I'll go see it. Because somebody wanted to see it, and I was like, Yeah, okay, I'll go to the movies. That sounds fun.
SPEAKER_03So you did watch the first one after.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, after, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I'm curious to be like, what is that? How does that hold up now that you kind of spoiled knowing what happens in the first one based off of a lot of the dialogue in this movie? I was like, is it still that fun of a watch? Oh, yeah. Probably. I mean, it's a great rewatch. So I get it.
SPEAKER_02The fact that she lives at the end is not the surprise. What's surprising is the how. So it's it was so fun to watch the way she got out of tricks, uh, traps, and you know, figured out how to like not get killed or to kill them. Like equally fun in both movies. And knowing the ending did not change anything for me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I remember the first time I watched the first movie. It's great, like a few movies that I was like, I was gonna give an example, and I was like, actually, I don't want to spoil things that people haven't seen in those other movies, but there's a lot of great things where like they leave you with a will it, won't it? At the you know, so you get that spoiled by watching the second one first. Because I remember the first time seeing Ready or Not, where there's just like, and if she survives or if the rules are broken, then they're all gonna die. And it's like, are they really? To where like you get that moment at the end where like dawn comes and then they're all standing there for a little bit, where I'm like convinced, oh, it was all bullshit, and they're all gonna realize that they were doing this for nothing, and there is no pact with the devil, and then they start blowing up, and then you're like, never mind, okay, it was real.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. I did, yeah, it was real thing I did know going into the first movie, but yeah, I still enjoyed it, so it's fine.
SPEAKER_00Well, as we do when we have a guest on, we allow them the honor of going first with their first point. So, Penny, what do you have for us?
SPEAKER_02I would like to talk about the depiction of lawyers in fiction. Uh so Elijah Wood plays this character who has no name. He's just called the lawyer, and he's great at it. I love it. The depiction is has some things in common with other lawyer depictions. There are sort of three different kinds of lawyers that you see in fiction. There's the like hero lawyer, and if you want to see that, I would encourage seeing Just Mercy with uh Michael B. Jordan. It's a great movie. Uh, it's about a true person who I knew in law school, Brian Stevenson, and he's awesome and a real hero in real life. There is the struggling corporate lawyer who's harried and stressed out, and it's probably a woman, and then she meets a nice guy who's kind of goofy and they have a rom-com. There's that kind of lawyer. And then there is the lawyer who is perfectly content to represent the bad guy. And they are always portrayed in the same way as being super composed, right? Like the way that Elijah Wood was, he was like mild-mannered, soft-spoken, clear, direct, but not assertive or angry or aggressive at any moment. He was just like, oh, Mr. Labelle will be unhappy, like just very calm. And there's this mildness, politeness mask that like civilizes true violence and evil, right? He's like the face of somebody who blows people up and also has like a cabal of rich people that run the world. Like, this is not a good person, this lawyer, but the way that he is portrayed, and I was trying to think of other examples of this, and I I could when I Googled like lawyers who represent like bad people in movies, I just kept getting Devil's Advocate with Keanu Reeves and and uh Al Pacino, which is a decent example, but it's a little bit different since I don't want to give spoilers, but it's not exactly the same kind of thing. Um, but then I realized, of course, I have something near and dear to my heart, which is that on Angel, the spin-off from Buffy, the uh one of the major villains for Angel is the law firm of Wolferman Hart, which is populated by these super civilized, suave, well-dressed, good-looking lawyers who are calm and capable and completely content to represent just pure evil. And I realized that's why I liked the Elijah Wood character so much, because I was like, oh, maybe he would work at Wolfman Hart if these universes were combined. Like he would fit right in there. I also just like Elijah Wood, I always have. I think he's really talented. I love the way his career has gone, like sort of post Lord of the Rings, how he's been like, I did the big franchise thing. That was great. People know me. I'm famous. I have a lot of pull in Hollywood. I'm gonna do weird. Can I swear on this podcast? Yeah. Absolutely. I'm gonna do some weird shit. And he has taken oddball after oddball project, and it I I love it for him. Daniel Radcliffe is doing the same thing, right? He's like, I did Harry Potter, and now I'm just gonna do weird stuff.
SPEAKER_03I became a Radcliffe fan after Harry Potter because I never watched Harry Potter as a kid.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03That was something that I just like trained, like it was I was grew up in the right time. I just wasn't interested. And so it wasn't until I think like Woman in Black, but then I think what really hooked me with Radcliffe was horns. Yes, exactly. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02Um, and I know that uh Daniel and Elijah have like gotten together and like talked about this. This like, we've both chosen to go this indie weird route, and they've given interviews about it and stuff. They also get a lot of people who think they look alike and ask if they're brothers and stuff, so there's a whole connection there. But um, I enjoyed the lawyer throughout the whole movie. I loved when he showed up at the hospital and he was like, hmm, who might this be about Faith, right? And then how he was like, Oh, you know, I'm sorry for your loss. Like, I don't know, just everything about him. And my favorite, my favorite is when one of the Rajan brothers, the one who gets killed in the washing machine, when he dies, and then um uh no, not when he dies, it's when the Chinese woman gets killed. And then everybody in the room ducks, like he gets behind the podium, and the one Dan Forth guy like hides behind one of the servants, and then the the the younger, the son blows up and all the blood splatters everywhere. And Elijah Wood just calmly goes back to what he was doing as a lawyer. Like he was like, I just duck out of the blood spatter, all right, and then that means we now need the next, all right. That family's been eliminated, and like he was just so businesslike. And then fast forward to the end of the movie when um when he realizes that Grace is even smarter than anyone who's giving her credit for, and that she has figured out an exit from this horrible trap, the look on his face was like respect. Like, good for you, I'm glad that happened. And I I just was like, uh it's because for some lawyers, some people go to law school to accomplish something, and they know they need to learn the law or be a lawyer to accomplish that thing. And some go for the love of the game, and they see the rules and the law and the procedures as a big game that they are playing, and they love manipulating the rules and outsmarting other people with the rules. And I think he was like, You got it. You outsmarted the actual devil, like, respect about her and like good game. Like for him, it was a game. He doesn't care about lives.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, also he lives at the end, so if there is a third movie, maybe they'll follow him. That'd be great.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I yeah, it's like, of course, he's in a position where he was like, and no matter what happens to everybody else, I'm I'm I I'm immune from whatever all this is going on. I'm just here to do my job. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think that the way he played it, because I think he knew that he was immune to whatever was going on, he was able to play it almost like he's a spectator getting entertained by what's happening. And I got the sense, based on expressions and reactions from him, that he was very entertained and kind of impressed with how Grace handled herself throughout this whole movie. How she just continually, you know, adapted to what was being thrown at her and just continued succeeding, despite having so many people trying to kill her.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. At the end, when when uh somebody was like, Well, you know, can she do that? And he was like, There's surprisingly little written about that in the bylaws. Like the look on his face was like, she just like just completely like shut out, killed, like beat all of you. And I have switched. I'm now a fan of her. And you know, like it was just uh it was delightful to me. I um I guess if I'm gonna see lawyers on screen, I want them to be one of the archetypes, and evil lawyer or lawyer for evil is probably my one of my favorites in fiction, like just in like in horror movies. And I feel like there was also a lawyer for evil in the movie, him, but I didn't have time to rewatch it to confirm that. Um and again, I think that that lawyer had no name, but it wasn't Elijah Wood, so it wasn't as memorable. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I'm curious where you land on that with Saul Goodman or Jimmy before Jimmy McGill. Uh just because especially I mean, yeah, uh that that show, uh Better Call Saul. There's like, yeah, it's because it's kind of a a balance of like someone like the the good, you know, do gooder, lawyer, you know, with with a heart of gold, like wanting to accomplish something and then swapping over to the like, oh, it's about the job and like I'll defend anybody because I'm getting paid. And there's a lot of complexities on the in-between on those that that show and that character covers that I'm like, ooh.
SPEAKER_02I have not watched Better Call Saul. I think you I started it, but I have this thing, and maybe this is why I like these like super heightened, campy lawyers for evil. I don't like watching anything too realistic about being a lawyer on TV. It's just like, ugh, this is like work. Like, uh I see these people all day. I don't want to see these people on my TV. It broke my heart a little bit because I loved Breaking Bad and I loved uh Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad. I thought he was a hilarious character, but it the show wasn't focused on him or his world. And then when Better Call Saul came out, I was with everyone else. I was like, oh, I gotta watch this, I gotta watch it. And after like three episodes, I was like, I am miserable. Like, I feel like I'm with the worst people I work with every day. I can't I cannot. Um, I I don't watch any of them. I don't watch Boston Legal, Suits, like um what was the Boston Law Firm show before Boston Legal?
SPEAKER_00I didn't Allie McBeal.
SPEAKER_02No, there was one after Allie McBeal, and then um I think Allie McBeal might be the last one that I watched and didn't hate it, but it that was before I went to law school. Since law school and working in a law firm, unless they are the Wolfram Hart lawyers, I'm like, get off my TV. I don't want to see you anymore. Um my other favorite TV lawyer is Bob La Blah on um Arrested Development.
SPEAKER_03Bob Blah Blah Blah's La Bob.
SPEAKER_02I get all my illegal news from Bob Blah Blah's Law Blog.
SPEAKER_03Yep. I love it. I need to do an arrested development rewatch. It's been too long. I never finished it because like the last Netflix season I tried and I could not finish it.
SPEAKER_02I heard it's not worth it, so I'm never probably gonna watch it, but I'll I'll rewatch the first three episodes, the first three seasons. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yes. So good. Uh, random other thing is because you were talking about the lawyer, Elijah Wood. Because I had a note that, like, the one time that I ever see him kind of crack, or that like there's some worry to him. And they never address it in the movie, and I wonder if they had something planned and then they didn't, or what it means. But the only time you really see him is like he keeps making sure that he's got to protect, or he's worrying about the book.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the book seems really more important to him than any of the.
SPEAKER_03When something's about to explode, he closes it up and puts it away. Or like after like one thing happens and like you see him like kind of panic quickly, where he checks it and make sure it's it's okay, and then he's like, Alright, it's fine. I was like, is that gonna come into play? And it really didn't. So I was like, could this whole evil pact be broken if you could destroy the idea? Destroying the old contract in physical form. I was like, who would make that kind of thing in a story that would be that easy? Wait, wait a minute. I uh Penny is here for this because serendipity. Maybe that oh, that's the kind of thing I would do in a TTRPG campaign as a GM.
SPEAKER_02I um I uh I had a law school classmate who like fell in love with tax law and and realized that was like what he was meant to do with his life, and he used to carry his tax law textbook around with him like a teddy bear. And he would tell you, he'd be like, I love this. It's my friend. And we were like, uh all right, dude.
SPEAKER_03That's sure.
SPEAKER_02That's a choice. Tax law it is, but it's because it's it's a it has lots of complicated rules that for him were like fun, like a fun puzzle.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, all right, it ruins people's lives, but you go. Um also Elisha Wood and Sarah Michelle Geller, for some reason, have been on a lot of interviews together on the press tour. It seems to be the two of them, or her and Catherine Newton a lot, and he has been so funny, and the two of them have clearly been having a blast together on this press tour. She keeps doing the do you wear wigs thing with him, which is so fun. Do you know this do you wear wigs thing? Um, as a as a prank, he was doing some Lord of the Rings interview, and uh it was like over a phone, and they they pretended there was a technical problem. And um what's his name? Uh Dominic Monaghan pretended to be a German interviewer and asked him like bonkers questions. And Elijah Wood is like, What is happening? And one of the questions is, do you have wigs in in some movie? And he's like, What?
SPEAKER_03I I have seen that. It's been so long. Thank you for unlocking that memory. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, every now and then in these interviews that I've seen on on like Instagram or whatever, Sarah Michelle Gellar will be like, Well, there were wigs in the movie, and the both of them will just crack up, or she'll be like, Oh, were you wearing a wig in that scene? Like, it keeps coming up, and it it's very cute to me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, his reaction at the end when he tells her that she can go reminded me of the n of Vale's basically Vale appearing in the chair and just basically nodding at her like, you know, yeah, you're free to go.
SPEAKER_02Although I thought she was free to go at the end of the first movie after Bale appeared, like you win, but she wasn't. She got sucked into another game. So I guess it does sort of leave open that maybe there's a third level of this game that she is unknowingly obligated to uh at least it's an open door for there to be some kind of third movie. I don't know. I also would be content if it's just these two.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it feels like a good ending.
SPEAKER_00If they want to do a prequel movie with Elijah Wood and the book and everything, and some of how like kind of how this got started, I I'm okay with that. Like, that could be interesting, but let let let this story with grace and faith be done. I'm I'm happy, it it's good, it was good. I don't want to I don't want to try for a third movie and have it fail. This is good. Let's end it now.
SPEAKER_02The prequel would be so great if they go back to like when some of these families were first making their deals, so it's like 80 years or a hundred years ago, and Elijah Wood is the same.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Make him some supernatural entity. The lawyer.
SPEAKER_00Maybe that's why he's the lawyer. That's what he gets in return. Immortality to be. Yeah. So I think, yeah, I think that works. They could do that. I'm down with that, but I'm good with the end of the of the story. Alright, Pake, you get to go second.
SPEAKER_03Alright, I get to. Fine. Um I must. No, um, I think, yeah, just a quick one, uh. But looking at maybe the most villainous uh uh of the movie, other than like LaBale and this the whole pact. But uh the Danforth twins are are very interesting characters here, Ursula and Titus. Because I was this was my first watch on here. I held off on it. I didn't see it in theaters, and then I was like, well, now I know we're gonna cover it, so I'm just gonna wait, and we'll it'll it'll be worth it. Uh so now when it's a first watch, a lot of my notes are like, what does this mean? I'm sure we'll figure it out. I don't know why I'm asking typing this down. I will find out. But um I thought it was interesting that was like once you know though the ball is in play and all this stuff, and like their first order of business is their dad being like, Alright, kill me, and it's like, what does that have to do with anything? Like, I was like, that's that's interesting. So then I like like waiting for those reveals, because then when again with the lawyer and explaining things when all the counsel is there, it's like, oh, the head of each family is the one competing in this new game where it's like just that one person, and that's why they had to kill their dad before the game started, because he knew he wouldn't be able to do it on his own. He was ailing and in a hospital bed, and that's not gonna happen, and he's the one in that position, so it's like you've gotta take me out so that you are in place, and it also gives them that advantage because they're twins, that again, little loopholes in the bylaws and all these things, it's like, Well, you're both the oldest, so you you get to do it together, you get to be a team. And yeah, immediately because they're like, Oh yeah, your father passed, and then it was just like once that comes to light, all of the other families are like, Okay, we see what you did. Like, yeah, that we're all ruthless to that level. Of course you would do that.
SPEAKER_00Well, they are the head family, and I think that they've studied things very closely and figured out the loopholes really well. I mean, I think the kids knew they were gonna have to take him out as soon as this happened. And I think that going into it, they wanted to put themselves in a position of power. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, they were, you can tell, like they're the kind of the they had the power, which is interesting, like where do all of these families they didn't touch on this based on like the first movie, do all these families have to do the same game night thing? I know, I want to know so much about when a new family member joins, or is it the jeck like just the Lodomas because they have a board game empire? Like, what was do they have something different that each family does? There's a lot of like lore that, yeah, like you could still explore.

SPEAKER_03Because they all have to like sacrifice something. So, like, there's gotta be something that they do, but is it all games or is it different things? I don't I don't know.
SPEAKER_00And not everyone gets the hide and seek card. Like, it not because they were other marriages in the Lodomas family where they didn't have to do this, yeah. No. I mean, there were doofuses that could have been dispatched for some reason.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So just like water is like I guess they all have to do things. So the fact like Lodomas family was probably the same level as any of the other families that weren't the Danforths that were here. They were probably the El Caitos or or the uh the Wands or any of that. Like, they're probably on that same level. They're just the ones that happen to drop the ball, letting a sacrificial victim survive, and then it was like, well, that resets the game for everybody now when one of them does anything. So that's that's an interesting little thing. Because it seems like, yeah, the Danforths were actually on the top of this the whole time. Uh. So and then we see, like, yeah, that so it is kind of a step up from the first movie. It's like, oh, you thought that family was evil, wait till you meet these guys. And they do seem like quite capable out there.
SPEAKER_02I was impressed with uh Sean Hattasey as Titus. I, like most of America, am watching, have been watching The Pit, and everybody's in love with him as Dr. Abbott, and his character on on that show is vastly different from Titus, and so his Titus performance was so psychotic and disturbing that it completely killed my crush on his Dr. Abbott character. I was like, that's gone. Like he that's now when I look at his face, I'm like, ugh, this he's like, I'm killing this girl, yay! Like he's a psycho.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was it was great, because like it they seem kind of inept at some points, but then they're also like capable enough, because I liked whenever they talk about, like, well, if somebody dies out there in the field, then the next family member that's waiting in the room gets to get sent out. And I was like, well, I don't see the Danforths dying early at all, because they seem pretty capable and like very important to this movie. But I was like, but Kip in a bathrobe being a very sweet little treat at the end could be funny, uh, but they went a different way with it.
SPEAKER_02Uh but band did I love when uh Nestor Carbonel's kids had to enter the fray. Oh, how delightful to have them as combatants. They were so funny. And they were into it, they were so into it.
SPEAKER_00It was a they were amazing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So my thought though is, yeah, when we see the kids, because I'm like, you know, why are they here? I was like, oh, that's why all like the relatives and children are here, is again that rule of like they replace them and they hunt if if their you know head of the house dies. And so I was like, well, Grace is the target, so that's probably more likely than than usual. So I'm sure we'll run through a couple of different layers of these families. And then yeah, I'm seeing uh Felipe, the little boy, and I was just like, oh no. I was like, she's gonna have to take out a fancy little tween again, isn't she?

SPEAKER_00He died in the pit of blood. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03The pit of blood. The goat pit. That was another note where I just thought, oh great, another goat pit. Uh there were human bones in there.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00I love that Grace and Faye took the goat with them.
SPEAKER_02Like, no, you don't need to die, little guy. Let's go.
SPEAKER_00No. And I love too that she decided to kill Titus just before the goat. Like, it was they were gonna slit the goat's throat, and she just took him out and uh let's save the goat and sacrifice a pig.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, seriously. Yes. And then she gets to say to him, I'm the one that got you, which is just delightful. Oh my goodness. That's good.
SPEAKER_00That just made me think of who was it, the Queen of the Woods in Game of Thrones, who said.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I want her to know it was me. Ugh.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I I haven't watched The Pit yet, so it's it's on my list. I'm going getting around to it soon. But but yeah, so Titus was great. Because yeah, he seems kind of a little inept. Like, they set him up at the beginning where he's the guy that's just like terrible people skills, and his sister seems to be running the show. And then you see him like being put in that back seat has finally got to him, and he's like, No, I let me show you what I can do. But uh, you know, then working together, like not really cheating, but yeah, getting the system because they're on their property as the heads of this thing. So, like, taking the batteries out of the golf carts, or making sure like they know how they've wired up all any outgoing phone calls that we own the phone company. I was like, wow, that's diabolical. Where they can like they have these yeah, they have these extra, you know, things that are helping them along. And then yeah, you said when we see him fully flip and he's just like unhinged and like he's beating up and kicking Faith out in the hallway, and you just see him, I was like, oh, he's fully scary now. Like, I actually this is the first time I'm feeling scared by this character. And then at the end, with with Ursula talking with Grace, and I was like, I don't know if I'd buy it. I think I think she was still playing her own angle. I was like, I don't buy her bullshit because everything else she's done throughout the movie, I was like, no, she's just as evil. If not more evil, because she's tactically evil. I think she's still playing her own angle at the end there. Maybe she was being earnest, but I guess we'll never know because she under un you know, she underestimated her brother.
SPEAKER_02I think it's some from column A, some from column B, right? Yeah, I think she saw how unhinged her brother was, and it wasn't, oh, an unhinged person like this can't have this much power because it would be bad for humans. It's he'll probably kill me next. So I should team up with Grace so we can take him out together. That's what I f I think it was like both that she saw like a new side of her brother that was even darker than she realized, and also like self-preservation tactics. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think that she knew Grace didn't really want to marry him, and if she did team up with Grace and they did take Titus out, she knew Grace didn't want the power, so then she would be able to continue. Yeah. But what a shift for her, because this is actually my first point is about the the relationship between the twins. Because when it starts out, they it very much is Ursula leads and he follows. You get the sense that they treat him her father the the father and Ursula treat him kind of like a kid. And he doesn't like it, but he doesn't really push back, he kind of just takes it. And then as time goes on, he gets into this mode where he understands the power and this struggle starts happening.
SPEAKER_03I was trying to remember there was a quote and I was like, what was that from? I just heard it. Wasn't this movie? I was like, oh yeah, I've been watching The Burrows, uh, which is incredible, by the way. If you need to watch that, but yeah, so there's a quote from that, so it doesn't spoil anything if you don't know the context of it. But yeah, there was a so you treated him like a child and then got mad when he acted like one. And I was like, yeah, okay, yeah. It's like that that quote exactly was like, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I also think that like he got like some serious bloodlust. Like he he's probably killed before, let's be realistic. But I think that the thrill of the hunt and then being able to beat up on this like defiant girl, like I think he uncovered a new thing about himself in that moment where he was like, Oh, I don't just like this a little bit.
SPEAKER_00I think that was when he crossed over the line from being the one who follows to the one who's not going to follow anymore and is going to lead because he was beating up on faith and then he hid his sister. Yeah. And she seemed genuinely shocked that he did that. So I'm guessing he hasn't either he hasn't done it before or he hasn't done it in a long time.
SPEAKER_03Sadism unlocked.
SPEAKER_02Their relationship reminds me a little bit of people that have exotic pets, and they're like, My lion would never hurt me. And then it's like, news at 11, woman's face ripped off by pet lion. Like, you can keep a wild animal until they decide they don't want to be kept anymore, and then they're gonna overpower you, right? Like her brother was basically like a lightly tamed wild animal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and she was able to because she was more intelligent. She was able to outmaneuver him to kind of manipulate him, to steer him in directions. But his brawn and strength, once he hit full maturity, overpowered any brain power or any hold she had on him. And I also feel like his dad and his sister together were what made that manipulation or outmaneuvering work. And without him there to back Ursula up or work with Ursula, he really started to realize, well, I can overpower her. Yeah. Like, why can't I overpower her? I mean, his dad was in charge of the money, he had everything, so he had a reason to stay under control. He has no reason to stay under control now. And if he gets power, even when they were talking on the go-karts about, well, who's gonna have control? She said, Well, dad wanted me to, and I have no doubts that the the father, Danforth, wanted Ursula to be the one in control. But you knew that Titus at that point, that's when I started to realize, no, I don't think Titus is gonna accept that. I think he's been under the two of you for so long that the once he starts to see what this can be, he's going to take control. And you may not reap the benefits of it. You may have to witness what all of your keeping him submissive or under wraps. He may just explode. It's like sometimes with teenagers who aren't allowed to do anything at all, they're very much uh repressed, brought up, repressed, they don't have access to a lot of things. Then they go away to college and they suddenly have all this freedom and they go crazy. It's because they've never been exposed to those things. Yeah. And they don't know what that type of freedom is like until they're in it. And it's so much that it's overwhelming and pushes them in the opposite direction, and they end up as bad as what the parents were hoping they wouldn't.
SPEAKER_02Um, and in a real way, Titus was kind of drunk, like a lot of those college kids you're talking about, right? He was like with the violence for him. He was like, it was making him kind of high. He was a drug. Yeah. And he was like, Yeah, uh, you're not even human, you're not even a person, you're just a collection of organs and meaningless opinions approximating a personality. I think that that was the moment when he dehumanized kind of everyone. Uh the way he killed Ursula, though, was very intimate and personal.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Uh, I think that there was some hate there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. I don't think he realized just how angry he was until this process started. And then little by little he got more and more enraged because he realized that he had just been controlled. Like it wasn't a 50-50 relationship where they were on the same level. He realized that she was looking down on him, and he that made him even more angry. And so I think he took all of that rage out. It was not just rage against her, I think it was also rage against his dad. He took it all out on her in that moment. And and I think to him at that time, she wasn't his sister anymore. I think she he was looking at her as, you know, something that he was detached from. Because as twins, they have that connection. Like at least that's what I've read about. Twins have a very close connection because they're twins. They were b in the same womb together. And he was completely detached. I don't think he was looking at her like a sister. He was looking at her like the enemy, like something he had to defeat.
SPEAKER_02But also because of how close they are, and I don't mean like warm, loving, close, just close, intertwined lives, it was deeply personal, more so than any other person he would kill.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I was really concerned to with the way that he kissed Grace, like it was so gross, intense, and taking like like taking. It wasn't there was no intimacy there, it was just about I'm gonna I own you, and I'm going to take, and this is how it's going to be. And that's what I took from that scene. And you even see the tear go down Grace's cheek, and it's like she knows. Um so yeah. He started out as not a good person, and he just completely went so far into the villain brute that it was uncomfortable by the end. So when she took him out, I I was very pleased.
SPEAKER_02It was very satisfying.
SPEAKER_00Of course you could do this. You did this. Of course you did, Grace. Thank you. Thank you for doing that. I honestly think the lawyer was happy when she did that because I think he knew it was going to be a lot of messes to be cleaning up.
SPEAKER_03He's sitting there watching, like, oh my god, I'm gonna have to deal with this guy being in charge of the council. Oh my god. This is gonna suck.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so let me just double check and see. Yeah, I feel like we've covered all of my All of my point in that discussion. So we're back to Penny.
SPEAKER_02Uh so I was I always try to look at whether a film is making any kind of social commentary. And I think there is a little in this and it's it's not super subtle. It's basically lambasting the uber wealthy. And there have been a lot of movies that have been on this, what I call the eat the rich theme. It's not always about eating the rich, but it's about just sort of like looking at the ultra wealthy and being like, they don't even live in the same world as us. And the world they live in is disgusting. And uh it aligns with my politics. So I'm happy to have that as a growing theme in Hollywood. It's getting a lot of play, especially in the horror world, which I really enjoy. There's been uh, there was like, you know, the last season of You, that was all, or the last two seasons of You, that was all about like horrible rich people. Um uh him I was talking about earlier. Um, what was the menu? That was another one. There's been a whole lot of these lately and stories lately of just sort of like I think the growing wealth gap that exists in our real life society is showing up on screen. The way that horror movies often mirror what is going on in society and what is the biggest fear going on in society, right? The famous one is we all got we got the Godzilla movies because of the nuclear bombs that were dropped in Japan and the resulting like fear of nuclear power and radiation and what it might do. And you can trace that through horror movie trends like over the decades. And it's one of my favorite things about this genre is that it gives us a way to explore some of these issues, but it makes it accessible and fun, but also reminds you that it's terrifying. It's like a nice combination of things. Um, there's often a lot of people who think like, you know, that rich people worship the devil and have traded away their souls for wealth and power. So this is just part of that whole thing. The other one was um, no one is coming to save you. You know, they try to call for help and they get, you know, Ursula's trap. But there's also a realization that Grace has in the first movie. And then you sort of see her have it again in this movie where she's like, There's there's no one coming to save me. If I don't figure out my own way out of this, I will die. And I need to figure that out. And I I feel like it's an important thing for all of us to stop waiting for someone to save us from whatever is the problems in our lives. Whether or not you deserve to be saved is not the point. No one's coming. So let's get on with it and stop waiting around. I think a lot of people wait for someone to fix their their lives. And I really respect the way Grace is like, I'm just gonna do everything I possibly can. And I'm gonna be smart about it and creative. She's so creative. But it's ultimately about this, like, you have to be your own hero sometimes.
SPEAKER_03Alright. Uh, my next one, again, I think we've talked about it a little bit. I have I'm I'm the one coming in just short to the point points to I have to make some room because I know how much Daphne absolutely loves this movie and these movies. Like, Daphne's gonna want to talk, so we'll let her. But yeah, I was just talking about kind of the ending or the really the end game where we really see her put things together, and I think it starts with that conversation with Ursula before Titus comes in and kills her, where she's talking about like you realize like you have, you know, he doesn't have need to have this power, he can't have this power. If the power is in somebody else's hands, the better things will happen. I think that sets some of those things in motion, and then following that up with the like there's nothing in the rules about killing a family member, she starts putting these plans together where she's like, you know what? It feels like I gave up by going with this, you know, marriage loophole that I've been carrying in my back pocket this whole time. Because she did it out of love to save her sister. But now she's starting to kind of these like cogs are moving in her head, and she's like, actually, I might be able to work this to my advantage. And you know, I maybe it's a good thing that Ursula does get taken out, because I don't think her greed would have allowed any of this to happen the way it did. So it's just very much like, well, all the pieces kind of fit into place. So I think she walks into that wedding ceremony with the plan. She's like locked in and ready to go. And I will say the new black wedding gown did look pretty awesome. I was like, man, she's just dressed for unholy matrimony and she's ready to slay. Uh, it was great.
SPEAKER_00If I get married, I want to wear a black wedding dress. I do. She looked amazing.
SPEAKER_02And the the the veil and how it was like over that like pointed tiara crown type. So cool. Like she just looked like like Persephone, queen of the underworld. Like amazing. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Loved it.
SPEAKER_03Great. Yeah, another great another goat pit. Awesome. Um yeah, it was quite a move. We see, you know, the the like wedding happens, and so she's like, okay, the game is officially over. We're not, you know, bound by like super strict rules of every move we make. And then also, we're not against the rules to kill a family member, right? So uh here we go. I was like, man, that's two husbands that Grace has now killed on their wedding day, in the same week, days apart.
SPEAKER_00Uh she's over too, but I'm proud of her.
SPEAKER_01So I I have a question.
SPEAKER_02Is Grace now the sole heir to the Lodomas and Danforth fortunes? I believe she is.
SPEAKER_03She might be, yeah, honestly. Uh yeah, that works. I'm sure because it's like, well, how do what's all the legal ease to uh murdering your your husbands after marriage? But you know what? She's got the lawyer on her side, and I don't think I doubt that's part of the role.
SPEAKER_02Um actually in this family, maybe it is. But uh yeah, I think she's like an incredibly wealthy person now. She just has this pesky possible criminal case to worry about.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Again, I think now that she's got Elijah Woods lawyer on her side, nothing's gonna stop her. She's good now. He'll just pop up and be like, oh, I got you covered.
SPEAKER_02Um then he'll be like, Mr. Labelle owns that judge, no worries. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh and it only gets more badass, even like from there, because like, yeah, it's like at first she's like, well, now you're you have the high seat, like you are the leader of this council. And she's like, Cool, first order of business, fuck this shit, I'm out. Uh, which is is great, because then she's like, I am now not beholden to any rules or repercussions under Lebelle. So anything that happens, he can't if he's if he's unhappy, if he's mad, it doesn't come back on me. There's no black blowback on me. I'm out of this. I'm not withholden to anything. Uh now everybody else in that room, aside from Faith being her direct family, so she is also safe in in this instance. It's funny, it's like, well, now all of you, it's like, okay, so somebody has to hold the ring before dawn. How long do we got? Roughly three minutes? Cool. Go get it. Like, fetch. Uh it was just beautiful, bloody chaos. Uh, just see everybody dive into the goat pit and then go boom. Um, it's like, oh, they all exploded in the pit, and so it's it's a cleaner finish for Grace. No, they just can't avoid getting exploded on. Way to go, Madhu. Uh this guy.
SPEAKER_02He was hilarious. Speaking of Madhu, what happened to Martina? I know. I like is she still driving and she blew up in the truck? Like, I don't know. I hope she lived. Honestly, I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_03I'm assuming she blew up somewhere further away from you.
SPEAKER_02I I mean I just wouldn't want to be the person who found that car.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But good for her for trying to get away. Yeah. Like for being like, you people are fucked up and I'm done with this shit. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I'm gone. She had a few hours with that family fortune, so who knows what she did with it for the little bit of time to do that.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, what could you do? He was so funny because the whole way through he was like, if I was out there, she'd be dead already. Brahra. I'm so tough. And then he's like, I don't want to fight. I'll sign away everything.
SPEAKER_03Like he's like, it's your turn. Put your money where your mouth is. And he's like, I want my wife, dude.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, I don't blame you because she's tough. And then when Grace was tough, when she confronts him, he's got like ice cream in a little fancy dish. And he's like, No, I'm out. I'm like, oh, you are so lame.
SPEAKER_03Oh. But I think the biggest victory of all is Grace finally got her damn cigarette.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was nice.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02I was I was glad for it.
SPEAKER_03I was like, this poor lady just needs a cigarette. This whole movie. Somebody give her a cigarette.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know, it's funny because I thought Ignacio, he I think he was lighting up. Yeah. And I thought he was gonna let her smoke the cigarette, and I that would have been honestly hilarious.
SPEAKER_02Oh, but the way that he was like smoking in front of her at her, that was also hilarious. Like I was like, God, they're a dick.
SPEAKER_03It's so interesting to see him play. I mean, like, he plays very interesting characters. I love Nestor King.
SPEAKER_02He's had a pretty amazing career. Yeah, all over the place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Like I said, there's like the personal because like it's again, but back when I was doing a lot of convention circuit stuff, is he was at a convention that I was at. And it's a small thing, but it's one of those things I'll always remember because I remember it was during the time he was in Bates Motel. And I was watching that one, and I was I was on the convention floor one day, and I was just like chatting with him, and we were talking about Bates Motel, and he goes, Oh, have you watched this week's episode yet? And I said, No, because I was traveling, so I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. He goes, When you get back to your hotel room after today, watch this week's episode, and then come back and find me tomorrow because there's a scene that I want to. And so I did, and it was so fantastic. Like we just like we're like nerding out about a show he was on and like a scene his character had, and it was just like such a good egg. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That is so awesome. I thought I had seen a picture of you with him somewhere.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he's great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Back in the days of conventions. Oh, I guess we're back in the days of conventions again. It was a few years where they were doing them virtually because of COVID, but now we're kind of back to like full steam ahead.
SPEAKER_03Yes. But yeah, I think that's yeah, that's that on that. Just I wanted to kind of talk about yeah, the the ending and just her kind of in-game plan that she puts together and how yeah, wonderfully it works out.
SPEAKER_00I want to talk a little bit about Won Chen, who was the Asian woman who had the son that liked to play the Switch and needed the Wi-Fi password, and how intelligent she was in also understanding what the rules were around um this game and how to circumvent it without anyone actually having to die. Uh because she's the one who told Grace that, hey, you can marry my son. You don't have to live with him, you don't have to have any type of life with him. I and and I'll take the lead seat, you can stay out of it, you'd only have to, you know, participate as needed in as part of the games or whatever, which she doesn't agree to. And of course, Faith doesn't understand why. Why are you not agreeing to this? And it's still because Faith doesn't understand how deep-rooted this is and how evil it is, and that it actually really does involve the devil. And it does involve um killing people and and all of this just wretchedness. But Grace listens, and I love that you know, Wan Chen, the way she tries to talk to Grace about it, despite someone shooting the drone down, like right from the beginning, Won Chen is trying to tell Grace there's another way. Like she doesn't want to do this. It seems to me that the last resort for Wan Chen is kill is killing someone. She wants to get this across.
SPEAKER_02She was trying to convince her up to the very last moment of her life.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And then unfortunately, with Grace taking the sword and killing Ignatio, it actually obliterated Wan Chen's bloodline.
SPEAKER_03Um but again, I think you kill another hunter even if by accident.

SPEAKER_00It makes Mr. Labelle very unhappy. It does. He gets very angry. So I think though it shows how even though this she's in this insane situation, Grace continues to listen to everything that's being said around her. That was one instance she listened when uh Titus was killing Ursula, that there's no rule against killing a family member and that comes back to bite him because she does it to him. Um I just thought it was interesting that not everyone in the game wanted to just was set on the bloodlust of it. Yeah. Like they were looking outside of that. It wasn't just about well, let's kill her and get it over with, and then, you know, whoever kills her gets whatever they want or gets to have control. It was, is there another way out of this? And she came prepared with another way out of it. And I like that that made it a little bit different. Because it it kind of reminded me of Alex's brother in the first movie of how he helped Grace a couple of times. Because he really didn't want to do this. Like, this wasn't something he wanted to do. Sometimes I wondered if he wishes his wife had gotten the card because that just I wondered how happy marriage. No, I didn't understand how they got together because he wanted nothing to do with it, and she was bloodthirsty and didn't want to lose anything because she had had a rough life. And she didn't want to go back to that.
SPEAKER_02Like money, okay like vast amounts of money has been the cause of so much horrible behavior by humans throughout all of human history. Like, just greed has caused so many people to just set their morals by the wayside.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and greed and power just seems to be a driving force with so many people. And sometimes you don't even realize people that you thought you knew have such a lust for it. And when you see Danforth at the beginning basically say, Yes, start do the ceasefire, and then it happens on the news, you see that it's happening. It's like people behind the scenes, like puppeteers pulling the strings, playing like God with the lives of other people, is horrifying. Just horrifying.
SPEAKER_02When Grace, you know, just removes herself from the council and uh the lawyer is like, there's surprisingly little written about this. No, we never nobody ever thought anyone would voluntarily give up power. Like it was impossible for them to conceive of a contingency when they had this huge book of all these different contingencies. That one never, like, what? Give up power?
SPEAKER_03But why would somebody know? Yeah, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_02That'll never happen. Uh is wild to me.
SPEAKER_00In the same instance, I look and think there are so many people on the flip side who power is all they want. Yeah. Like it clouds and blinds everything. It trumps everything. So yeah. Penny, what do you have for us next?
SPEAKER_02I wanted to talk a little bit about sisterhood and girl power. Um I thought the the narrative conceit, the setup of like these sisters have been estranged for years and there's bad blood between them and they've been forced together was great. It gave us lots of uh character development and tension along the way and throughout the movie that we could sort of grasp more than the sort of fantastical aspects of the hunt and the everything. Having this relationship sort of was the glue that held the movie together, I thought. And Catherine Newton is a great, I thought her chemistry with Samara Weaving was fantastic. I thought she was a great addition to this. Um, and I was fully invested in their relationship. And when they they finally have some like harsh truths for each other, and then they make it to the other side and you know, they love each other at the end. I I felt like that was almost as satisfying as pushing Titus in the pit. Like the fact that they found their way back to each other and that they were like, they were like, I love you, oh, I love you too, you're gonna get so sick of me. Like it was really uh lovely to see. I also enjoyed watching Faith's development as a fighter. So by the end of that fight she was having with Titus, or the beating she was taking from Titus, she was like laughing at him and spitting in his face. I was like, that they are definitely sisters. This like defiant, like strong personality, like sense of self, integrity, like all of that is similar in these two sisters. This fight that they both have is really fun to see. Um and I thought that the scene where Faith admits that she made up Derek was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. I made up Derek.
SPEAKER_00I think they're more alike than what you first think when you first meet them. And you realize, oh, Grace has a sister. And then you think they're more different than they are, and then throughout the movie, you the more you see them together, the more you realize, oh no, they're really similar. They have some of the same, you know, bottom line characteristics. And you I I think Catherine Newton played it really well as the sister who was left behind, because that happens when when you're a younger si I'm not a younger sibling who was left behind. I'm not speaking from experience, but I have I have friends who have struggled when their brother or sister has left to go off to college and they've been left back at home, and it's been kind of difficult for them to adjust to being the oldest one in the house. It's just a different experience. Um But I like how Grace and Faith reconciled back together through this shared traumatic experience. I mean, what better thing to bring you together than a shared traumatic nightmare that you're both living in?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. There's like some uh like backs and back and forth with it at first, though. It's like when you, you know, she took the time to show up for her. So you're like, okay, so that's good, but then immediately she's just like very snappy and stuff. And there's like, I'm gonna walk out, and it's like, okay, well, let me be vulnerable with you. It's like tells her the whole truth, and it's like, well, I don't know if I believe you or not, but that story's not gonna hold in court. Like, it's insane.
SPEAKER_00Um you know Grace is telling the truth about what happened, and you know it sounds outlandish, but you know that's what happened. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And then to see, then immediately, like, then she's blaming Grace because she's like, Well, now I'm handcuffed to you, and all these people are hunting us to death, and uh, you just pulled me into this, so then she's like mad about that, but then they start working together. I'm like, Oh, Macaulay sisters with a double clothesline. Uh they're just like they're working together, they're like resourceful. We get the like smoke screen idea that Faith comes up with, and then they're still arguing with each other about what to do, but then when they stick with a plan, it works out. Uh I guess there's some medical know-how, even a little bit that uh Faith has. So like there's a lot of back and forth where like they're on the same page, and then they're not, because like I see like you know, they fight the Danforths. They, you know, realize the trap with like waiting for him out the gate, uh, outside of the gate. So they're not smart enough to get them, so then they fight and they win, and then Martina goes flying through the gate, and all of this, but then it's like, okay, they're on the same page, and then like they get Vick to the ho uh casino, and then the next scene again, they're sitting there screaming and yelling at each other and saying horrible things to each other, and like, okay, never mind on the whole same page thing. Like, that didn't last long, but then which it makes sense, it's very sibling rivalry, because I mean, as somebody has two brothers, I love them so much, and I also cannot stand them sometimes. Like, there's the whole especially. When we were younger, where it's just like you bounce back and forth from being like the closest friends in the world to like, God, you're a fucking idiot, and like get your shit together. Like you just, you know, so it's it's very realistic for sure.
SPEAKER_00I feel like we've talked about that before on this podcast, because I'm an I'm the oldest in my family, and so is Fake. That little that younger siblings, you love them and you want to punch them sometimes because they do something, and especially growing up, it seems like I don't know, maybe more pressure is put on you as the older sibling to always have things together or be better behaved because you're older and they just run amok and act ridiculous.
SPEAKER_02Well, I am both an older and younger sister. I am in the middle of a very large family, and so I can kind of see both of their perspectives. And I I just found the the way that they were fighting, but then occasionally cracking jokes with each other to be incredibly relatable. Because even when you're so angry at your sibling, you still have a shared history, and there are still gonna be things that strike both of you, and you're gonna be like, uh, all right, back to fighting. Like, I I just found that really believable. And like when she was like, I made up Derek, and then later she's some um Grace was like, Well, I I you don't get tips, I get tips as a waitress. And she's like, I don't need tips, my fake boyfriend makes bank, and they smiled at each other and they shared this moment of like, okay, like we got through one level of our sister trauma bond, like trauma. Like we we've solved some part of it. Let's move on to the next stage. And there's always gonna be more. You're never done.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And there's layers of it, and you have to dig through. And sometimes it's like you have to take that first step to dig through like the initial layer, and then there's more after that. I feel like there's a lot more that they need to dig through, but I think they came at least to the same page, especially now that Faith knows she's she's telling the truth. As crazy as the story was, she's telling the truth. This is, you know, this is what she went through. I think Faith will be happy if she finds out that now, you know, Grace, Macaulay, Ledomus, Danforth has lots of money and can do lots of great things. We'll never have to worry about hostess.
SPEAKER_02Ever again. I did think when she was like, Exactly, so what do you really do? That Faith was to say, I work at the Whole Foods at 27th and whatever, which was where she spotted Grace with Alex Lato. I fully expected that. And then when she said she said hostess, I was a little disappointed because I thought that would have been such a funny callback. But then the no tips because my fake boyfriend makes bank line, like fully made up for that for me. Because that was funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Is it my turn again? I think so. Alright. Um, or do you have more, Peak? Oh, wait, yeah, it's Peike's turn. On that point. Yeah. It's your turn. Okay, Peike.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was hers. My last point was the the sisters, but that's why I always come prepared with backup points, because I know somebody might take one, and they're like, well, throw in my little things, and I've got more. So I have a few to pick from, uh, but I've thrown in a couple little things. So I guess the one that just seems the most fun right now is uh, again, character stuff. Uh Nestor Carbonel, because I mentioned him a little bit, I was going to talk about this uh El Caido family uh a little bit. They are interesting. They're maybe the most fun. We we talked a little bit, especially like the youngest, Felipe, finally gets his chance and he just comes in with the pistols.
SPEAKER_00Um, he was so ready.
SPEAKER_03Um but yeah, and Esther Carbonell we talked about, they must be like the newest to this Laval pact. And and the way that I picked that up is I remember there's this rule the lawyer even says, like, there's a rule stating that the weapons that you use in the hunt must have existed when your family's pact was first made. And so that's why you get all these like sword, like scimitars and samurai swords, and like old weaponry, and like flintlock pistols, and this stuff, and then you get uh Ignacio El Caido coming out here with a sniper rifle, and then Francesca's got the rocket launcher, and it's like, oh, this is a more uh recent pact that this family has has made. They're newer to this. Uh, but that gives them some advantage in this situation is they've got some much higher firepower. Uh and then, yeah, after Ignacio dies, and then Francesca takes over, she was so ready. Uh, as we get her and Grace earlier, as we find out that she was Alex Lodomas' ex, that Alex dumped her for Grace and then found Grace, you know, and so she's been holding this like vendetta, so it's like, oh, this is more personal than anything else. I was like, Grace might actually have a real problem once Francesca gets into the mix. We'll we'll see. And does it at first? I was like, man, the rocket launcher is quite the weapon of choice. If she knew which way it fired, it would have been very much more uh deadly. But it's maybe one of my favorite scenes. And it because it's inner cut with Titus beating the shit out of faith, it's less fun uh for that. But then if you just take the other side's because I'm like, turn around, bright eyes, she's right behind you. Uh but we get the slow dance wedding reception fight scene between them, while they're both stumbling around, maced, and like it's I love it for like the action and the comedy, and there's also like some like heightened, like kind of thrill to like, oh man, you know, this is the person who really wants her dead more than anybody else.
SPEAKER_00The music, too. Total eclipse that I scope all, like.
SPEAKER_03The music playing, which sets the comedy with oh, it was so good. And then I think my favorite joke that I actually literally patted myself on the back after writing it down is uh the way she kind of not takes out Francesca, as we see her later, it's like their their round two was a lot easier now that she's got a shotgun. Not a problem at all, barely an inconvenience.
SPEAKER_00But uh But at least she remembered to load it, and it wasn't loaded with um prop bullets like it was when she was after the butler.
SPEAKER_03But where she kind of knocks out Francesca and after that first like fight scene, they said hitting the scorned ex with a wedding band's keyboard. That's what we call striking a cord.
SPEAKER_00Oh, great. Oh but um roll your eyes, Fanny, do it. I do it all the time.
SPEAKER_02Uh it it's I agree though that the scene was just tremendous fun. Like the fact that they both couldn't see clearly and they were like knocking over furniture and stuff, trying to find each other. It was slapstick camp, but like deadly camp. Like oh, and the wedding dress that they're both in wedding dresses. Oh, so good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. She comes in wearing the wedding dress. This is my mother's wedding dress, and Alex and I he was mine, and the rage, and yeah. Honestly, I would have I would have bought them going out on the grass and going ten paces and turning around and shooting each other. I mean, honestly, at that point, there was so much rage that uh she had for her.
SPEAKER_02So I think Francesca wanted to kill her with her bare hands. She was angry in a visceral way.
SPEAKER_00Yes. She was. It just added something.
SPEAKER_02It was really and with the music, it was really funny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.

SPEAKER_03Yeah, like I said, probably like my favorite sequence of the movie just for the visual and the music, the kind of it's very comedic, but it also is high stakes in the movie. It was very well done.
SPEAKER_02Although my favorite kill is the washing machine. Oh, that was so good. It was so clever.
SPEAKER_00I loved when Grace gets the gun and gets the bullets, and she's just walking even towards the the reception hall and is singing run, run, run, like going back through the hide-and-seek song from the first one. There there were callbacks to the first movie, but it wasn't overdone. I felt like it fit where they were going, what they were doing. So it wasn't like, oh, we're just doing this movie as an homage to the first one. No, there were a lot of new things that came into it, I think, that made it made it really good on its own.
SPEAKER_02I can say it completely worked when I saw it, not having seen the first one. I was like, yep, I get it. I'm ready.

SPEAKER_03That's yeah, I still think that's like interesting to go into this one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I've done this kind of thing before and it really freaks people out. I saw Serenity before I watched Firefly.
SPEAKER_03Same. Honestly, actually, I did the same.
SPEAKER_02People were like, you won't understand anything that's happening. I was like, I'm pretty sure I could catch up.
SPEAKER_00Like, I'm not worried. Okay. Um, tacking on to what you said, Peik, just want to talk a little bit about the use of um Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow at the beginning and the end of the movie. Just about use of music. I was gonna talk about Total Eclipse of the Heart, but we've already talked about that. Um, the original Ready or Not ended with Love Me Tender by Stereo Jane when she's got the cigarette and she's outside smoking, and the guy comes over and asks her what happened, and she says in-laws. In this edition, which starts literally in the same place at as the end of the last one, they're using a version of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Amy Winehouse. And then the end credits, we get this other version, which is Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Brian Fallon and Maddie Diaz. And it was recorded specifically for the movie. Um, I just like the different tones of where we I think they match really well with where we started and where we ended the movie. And so I really, I really liked that a lot.
SPEAKER_02I agree. I thought, yeah, I feel like the the first movie in the very beginning of this movie, she is, she has won, but she is emotionally defeated. Right? She's like, she like collapses, like she's not in a great place, even though she won. At the end of this movie, she's triumphant and she has love again in the form of her sister. Like she the first movie, part of the betrayal was like, I thought you loved me. How could you put me through this and spring this on me and all of this? In this movie, it's less about betrayal and more about repairing a betrayal with her sister. And um, I felt like the different mood of the two different versions of that song were about like, I lost love and it's sad, and then I found love. Like the sister will love you tomorrow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. She collapses. They put her in the ambulance, and you get this whole montage of them having to shock her, like because that she's dying. So at first I'm wondering, is is this all gonna be a dream? Like, is she gonna be in a coma and all of this is happening in a dream? Thankfully, no. Um that would have made me mad. Yeah. It was really interesting how they they just showed. I mean, she was defeated, even though she won, she was defeated. Because if you think back to the beginning of the first movie when Alex is telling her, you know, I are you sure you want to do this? Like, I are you sure you want to get married? It's almost like he's giving her an out. Because I really do think he loved her. I do. I think he loved her. So but I also I don't understand why he thought coming here and doing this, other than maybe he thought they that she wouldn't get the card because neither of the other two have I think bringing someone into a devil worship cult without their knowledge sucks.
SPEAKER_02And if he truly loved her, he couldn't have s surprised her with that garbage.
SPEAKER_00No, he probably should have although if you fall in love with someone and they tell you, by the way, uh we can't get married because my family is a devil worshiping cult. What would your reaction to that be?
SPEAKER_02Um, first I would laugh. I'd be like, haha, that's hilarious. My family also is problematic. And they'd be like, no, no, no, I really mean it. Um I think I would be like, we could make it work, and then after about two or three months, be like, no, we can't. I gotta go. I think my initial reaction would be to try to make it work, and then it would dawn on me over time that that is a bad idea.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. But what's yeah, you give him, you want to like give him the benefit of the doubt, but then it's like springing that on her. It's like, what's the best case scenario? She doesn't pull that card, but then now she's part of it, and then they do have to explain, well, you know, when when my nephew gets married in, you know, 15 years from now, then his bride's gonna come in here, we're gonna pull cards, and then you're gonna have to kill her. Like, what do you you still you have to spring that on her at some point, even if she didn't wasn't the one.
SPEAKER_02Twice a year we sacrifice a goat, you have to be there, you're a member of the family. Like, that stuff was gonna come up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, honestly, I thought someone she might wonder why Aunt Helene is so angry all the time. And that's the aunt whose husband was sacrificed. Like, I mean, that might occur to me to ask my husband, why is Aunt Helene so rage-in-filled, like rage-filled all the time? She seems like she wants to kill someone. Yeah. Like, why is that a thing? Because she was her f uh. Yeah. I think I would be down with a movie about the reasoning behind all of this. I think I would be okay with a prequel. I think that could be really interesting. If they if the same people were involved in doing it, the ones who created it, I would be down for that. Plus Elijah Wood. Put him in there to help explain to us because that would be fun. I'd be down for that. I think it could be interesting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he likes the weird stuff now.
SPEAKER_03He does. Yeah. Oh, that I was- I was gonna bring it. Did anybody else watch? Because it was like a indie dark comedy horror that like came out in 2019 that I don't think anybody saw, but I did uh he's on one called uh Come to Daddy. No, I don't know it. Which was a very very interesting, very interesting one for sure.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember seeing that. I'll have to look for it. Yeah. It's creepy name. Come to daddy.

SPEAKER_03Well, go ahead and lay it out there, yeah, because now it's just anything. Because I have so many extra notes because I just take stuff, and I'm like, I'll pull my notes, you know, aside and then my points, and then I'll get to the other stuff. I'll run through it in a little bit.
SPEAKER_02All right. Well, I've I've got two things. One is that I have been re-watching Buffy as part of the Still Slang podcast, but also some other older shows, and noticing that around Buffy, like the late 90s, was when we stopped always having to have like gender-segregated fights. It used to be like there would be like a man and a woman, and they'd go in a room, and this was in Blade, which we also recently covered on Still Slang, where like Blade goes in the room with his sidekick, this woman Karen, and then there's like a girl vampire who fights Karen, and then Blade fights the boy vampires. And that used to be the absolute norm. And Buffy and then really alias just decimated that norm. And now in this movie, we fully, there's no hesitation to have women fighting women, women fighting men, like everybody fights everybody. And I am here for it because equality is beautiful. Um, but they still manage to get you a little bit because Felipe is still a little bit of a taboo to have a super violent, murderous kid. Like that is not normal enough to not be kind of surprising when it happens. Like you're like, whoa, the kid's demonic also is like Yeah, you're like women fighting women, yes, women fighting men, yes, women fighting children.
SPEAKER_00Give it some. I mean, we see that in with wrestling, like they are intergender, not on mainstream TV, really, but like at least with independent wrestling that I go to, men fight women. And honestly, those can be some of the most fun matches.
SPEAKER_02I'm here for it. That's really the last thing I had.
SPEAKER_03Alright. Uh let's see. I'll just I throw about, you know, I threw in some stuff, so let's see what I have left, and we'll get through it. Um yeah, talked to a lot about like Kevin Durand again, which yeah, we mentioned him being an Abigail. So I was like, yeah, Radio Silence obviously had fun working with him. So to bring him back even for a little bit. Even wasn't there for long, he sploded. Uh, because there's rules to this shit. You can't go rogue.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_03Wouldn't he have known? Exploding.
SPEAKER_00I know. Yes, he should have known.
SPEAKER_02He seemed like he might be on a lot of cocaine, though.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's very coked out. Uh because that's where he was just like, I'm not waiting, I'm not wanting to play this game, I'm just gonna get this done with. Like he knew the rules to that extent, but he was like, if I'm the one that kills her, then I get to take the high seat, but like he didn't wait for the game to actually see.
SPEAKER_00Well, and so many of the others, they they were digging in and finding loopholes, but him, for every bit that the others dug into it, he didn't.
SPEAKER_02He's like, there's something with violence, I'm gonna do that part. Off and running. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I I do like that, like it at the very most basic version of how do we do a sequel, how do we up it, is like, alright, so in a movie where like you end by exploding a whole family, it's like, what are the stakes? Now she's gotta explode a whole bunch of families.
SPEAKER_02And apparently they're like bodyguards and serving people. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They gotta all splode.
SPEAKER_00Um I think anyone who jumped into that pit was included. Anyone fighting for that ring, when he said it was basically anyone could jump in and start going for it. I I think that that meant that anyone that was there that was consciously going after the ring was fair game.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03I was glad because I was like, well, for hide and seek, the whole first movie takes place in this mansion with all these like corridors and rooms and hidden passageways. And so I'm glad that they found, you know, like going to different buildings and going into the casino and like all the back hallways and like stuff. Because at first I was like, man, hide and seek's gonna be a lot harder in an open golf course handcuffed to another person. Uh and then I was like, well, at least they got some woods, but I was like, what are we gonna do? I then they they kind of moved location to location, which then made it bigger. Um we talked about the washing machine a little bit, because it's like, yeah, masked man with a scimitar is pretty scary until you throw him in an industrial washing machine and hit the spin cycle. Uh but then like even at that point, Grace is not a monster. She's not thrilled to have melted a guy. But, you know, you gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Uh talked about the Alcaidos. Uh yeah, we talked about Grace a little bit at the beginning, is how it picks up right from there, and then we see that like cool, calm, and collected Grace at the end was just a quick little adrenaline thing, and that immediately the trauma response kicks in and she passes out and is it's a it's a bad time. Which, yeah, she went through hell. And then they mention the gunshot through the hand. Like you hear the EMT talking about the like hole in her hand, the gunshot, and I was like, oh, I forgot about that, because I my brain always tries to like block that one out, uh, that shitty little boy in the first movie. And I was like, it's not the gunshot through the hand, that's the worst part. It's what happens after. But I'm like, no, no, leave it in the first movie, I don't even want to think about it again. Then I'm like, oh no. Uh that part is always so rough for me. Uh and then, yeah, she's understandably the suspect of the murder of the Lodomas family in Arson of their mansion. It's like, again, how do you it's like, well, no, they were trying to, they they wanted to sacrifice me to the devil, but they ran out of time, so the devil made them all explode. Sure. Okay, so we're gonna go ahead and go to prison now. Yeah, a little trip to the psych ward. Yeah. Um she immediately is able to like kick back into the mode that she was in, where like, you know, uh Kevin Duran's character's looking for them in the hospital, and she's still like, well, we gotta go back to the detective because I need his gun. Because like, we gotta play ball. Like, it's it it's on again. And I did think it's like, I can't fight in a hospital gown, you know. I need something way more tactical, like a bloody wedding dress.
SPEAKER_00I loved it. That's all she had available. She could have maybe found some scrubs, but would that have been as dramatic? Absolutely not. She needed to be in that dress. And you know what? Kudos to them for matching everything up. Honestly. But it was so cool to see her cleaned up in the black and wearing the black wedding dress. It's like, oh, that's Samara weaving. That's her. Like, she she's so pretty. And cool thing, she's in two upcoming movies that fit Run for your lives. I'm so excited that we get to talk about her some more.
SPEAKER_03More of her. And we talked about Madhu. Um, he's fun. Uh, yeah, the the the wands. I have it kind of like, because I know like Wan Chen, because I wanted to like write that, but then I'm like, or do you do more of the cultural where it's actually Chen Shing? Because like you do like the first name and then Chen Shing Wan, but then it's written out as Wan Chen Ching, because then her son is uh Cheng Fu or Chang Fu. Uh but yeah, this whole like, because at first when she's just like, there's a loophole and I can get you out, and I was like, uh, do we trust her? Do we really or what game is she playing? But then you're like, okay. There was something there, she was serious about it, but it's still not a great deal. She's like, Yeah, just marry my dingus of a son, and then sell your soul to the devil, and you're totally good. And then yeah, that deal goes out the window anyway, with Ignacio there. And then I just had to feel, I was like, poor stupid Chang Fu. Uh, he never once knew what was going on. Um now now he's just on to the big bowl of flaming hot Cheetos and Nintendo Switch in the s well, not in the s hell, really, the whole devil-packed thing, but you know, I'm still sure they have video games in hell.
SPEAKER_00You know what? The video game that you have to play in hell is on Atari and it's E.T. Oh, that's a good one. It's the one that was found in the late.
SPEAKER_03It's just the old Lion King video game over and over like you can't stop until you finish.
SPEAKER_04Oh man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then yeah, uh, round two with Francesca, much easier because she's fully out of fucks to give. Her fuck well hath run dry. Uh and then she goes to the lodge, or she sees that's where Faith was taken. Because it's funny, it's like, you know, come to the lobby or we'll kill your sister. And then she looks at the like video feed and it's like, well, you just took my sister to the lodge, so I'm not gonna go meet you at the lobby. She's there, so I'm gonna go save her. Uh, and then there's nobody in there besides like the lawyer and some staff, and then you know, there's the the reserves are what's left in there bathrobe kip and the official new El Caido, you know, hunter, a little Felipe. Uh and Madu. It's easy to forget him. Uh he's also there.
SPEAKER_00He just wants ice cream. He just wants to.
SPEAKER_03That's all he wants. But yeah. So um, I think that's all the notes I have. Just kind of a couple little things to point out or that I enjoyed.

SPEAKER_00Um, my last thing I have to say is the actor who played Chester Danforth, the amazing David Cronenberg, who is known mostly for directing. Uh, he directed Rabbid, The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone. Like, he's so well known. Um I did not recognize him at first. And so when I was doing um, like once I got back from the movies and I was looking into it, because I don't dare. If I don't go right away, I'm afraid something's gonna get spoiled. So I went ahead and once I got home, I was looking into it. I'm like, that was David Cronenberg. I thought he looked familiar, but I wasn't sure who it was.

SPEAKER_03I do that same thing when I go to the theaters. If I go see a movie in theaters, the first thing I do when I get home is open up IMDB and go through the whole cast list and be like, oh, that was that person, and that wasn't what else did I because it bothers me because I'll see somebody, I'm like, I've seen them in something before. I don't know their name, but what it- So then I lock it away in the back of my brain, and as soon as I get out and I get home, I'm like, and now what they were in that okay, there it is.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes I'm at the closing credits in the movie theater looking on my phone, or in my car in the in the parking garage.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's like I need to know.
SPEAKER_02I recognized him, but only because I very recently saw an interview with him about something else, and I was like, hey, that's Kronberg. Um he lends a certain air of creepiness to everything he touches.
SPEAKER_00Always. Always. Yeah. His his rabid movie, I actually rewatched that not long ago. It's on Tubi, and Tubi has a lot of late 70s, early 80s horror movies that are like lower budget. And I often go there and go down rabbit holes to just watch old movies I've forgotten about and maybe saw back then and want to watch again. So dig into that. You know, I think we've done it. I don't think we have anything else to talk about. Look what you made me do. Um no, this was great. Penny, I'm so glad that we had you come on to talk about the two.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um as soon as I saw Sarah, Michelle Geller was in it. I I just thought it would be right up your alley.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty perfect. And like my horror movie taste is a little bit all over the place and it doesn't include everything, but this is this is in the right category for me. I like this kind of like slightly camp heightened gore.
SPEAKER_03Have you watched, and we might cover it soon. Uh I actually got to see an advanced screening of it, a surprise advanced screening. But uh this movie is uh um They Will Kill You. Oh, I which is in the very much in the right.
SPEAKER_02It's like somebody's in a house and everybody's gonna kill her. It's Zay Z Beats, right? No, I haven't seen it. I it was out at the same time as this movie, too. And I was standing in the hallway at the movie theater, like, and the posters were next to each other, and I was like, because of my whole I don't like to watch trailers thing, I thought these were the same movies. Like, I expected Zay Z Beats to be in Ready or Not 2, also like I had them completely jumbled in my head.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're without spoiling stuff for that one, like they are it's very much the same movie in a lot of ways. It's it's a lot of it's very similar, but it was also very fun. So I do uh recommend checking that one out. Um just for again the high camp of it with the kind of the comedy horror.
SPEAKER_02Um are you guys gonna cover good luck, have fun, don't die?
SPEAKER_03I don't I I've looked a little bit into it, like again, just the bare minimum of being like, okay, kind of some like who's in it, like what's like a loose synopsis? And I'm like, okay, I don't want to get too deep into it.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, I don't know if there's any synopsis that could spoil it for you. It's an experience. It's like everything everywhere all at once. Like you have to see it to see it. Do you think it fits us? There's a lot of running for your lives.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I mean, that's really the only thing.
SPEAKER_02The the main characters run for their lives.
SPEAKER_00That's usually all it takes. Who's in it? Sam Rockwell. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Who is one of my favorites? Um Zace Beats. Speaking of Zace Beats, um, there's a couple of other recognizable people in it, and I'm just not remembering off the top of my head. The woman who played Portia in the second season of White Lotus, um, you know, she was uh Jennifer Coolidge's like assistant person. She was great in that. Um she's she's kind of the main character, her and Sam Rockwell. Um and I there's somebody else who like the way she is like styled in the movie, I was like, why does that woman look familiar? And then you find out who she is, and you're like, oh, and it's somebody really obvious, like you're like, oh, I know that person. I can't remember off the top of my head who it is, but um yeah, it's great.
SPEAKER_03Check that up. So before we we let you go, before we get to feedback, if there's anything we plug all the kind of stuff, so we will talk, we talk about still slaying a lot, but definitely if you want to give a little plug or if you want to tell people where to find you, what to check out.

Picking right back up from the end of the first one was just so great. If you're a fan of the first ready or not, this is a must-watch.
SPEAKER_00Agreed. 5,000%. Catherine says, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this sequel. I've been watching Buffy and Angel following Still Slaying, and Sarah Michelle Geller was great as always. I'm glad they included more extremely bloody explosions, as that was probably my favorite part of the first movie. It was so good.
SPEAKER_03And finally, Bev writes in says, it was a it was good, solid fun, didn't hang about, kept the action moving, and had a great cast.

Yeah, I went in hoping for the best, and it exceeded my expectations because sequels can be really hit or miss, and I just feel like this was a great follow-up, and now I think I'm good if we don't do any more. Please, please let this rest. Don't let it become one of those film franchises where we keep having sequels that end up going downhill. Veronica, Wendy, and Archmaester Rennie, all back to talk all things House of the Dragon. Um, so two episodes that you can check out and and listen to before the new episode. They had a season three preview episode. They probably you know talk about some of the stuff that went on before leading up to this, kind of recap a little things, some ideas of what's come coming, and then of course the coverage of the first episode as well. Uh Salt and Sea, Fire and Blood. One thing it House of the Dragon does not miss on really any episode, but especially those those premieres. Man, they don't let you get away with anything. You don't you don't get eased in on this show.

SPEAKER_03Uh I was really glad to have uh Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as a little uh a moose boosh before, because that was beautiful and brilliant, and I love that show so much. And I'm excited that we'll get a season two of that sooner than later. They're already they've already been filming and stuff. They uh kicked up that really fast. Of course, working with the young actor Dexter, of course, you gotta get on it when you're working with younger actors. Don't need them growing up on you too fast.
SPEAKER_00You really do. Like you have to put a season out a year. Unless you're gonna have big time jumps, it's just not gonna work otherwise. Waltz, lost.

And so if you are a fan of The Pit and haven't already checked out the uh What's On Tonight coverage, they did all the episodes of that, plus a lot of interviews with uh cast and crew and stuff over there, so definitely something worth checking out. I know I will be checking out a lot of those interviews once I'm done with my binge. I'm excited for that.
