Somebody calls you “Hispanic” and you hear something else entirely. We sit down with Rosalinda for a special edition that starts with a real identity check: why she answers “Mexican” every time, how she thinks about Latino and Latina as umbrella terms in the United States, and why getting specific can be a form of respect. If you’ve ever googled “Hispanic vs Latino vs Mexican” or struggled with what word fits, this conversation puts the human side back into the definition.
Then we pivot hard into an Oscars 2026 hangout, pulled straight from our natural chaos: Michael B. Jordan takes Best Actor for Sinners, we shout out Ryan Coogler, and we keep coming back to One Battle After Another as a movie worth watching for the performances alone. We also drop context around Fruitvale Station and why it still hits, plus quick reactions to nominees, categories, and the weird reality that half the award-season films are “wait, what is that?” until the winners list pops up.
The surprise turn is AI. We talk about those deepfake-style tribute videos that bring Kobe, Tupac, and Michael Jackson back on screen and why it can feel spooky instead of sweet. Where’s the line between honoring someone and using them?
If you like cultural identity talk, movie recommendations, Oscars reactions, and honest questions about AI, hit play. Subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review with the label you claim for yourself and why.

Welcome to a special edition of the Nobody's Talking podcast. We are here with yours truly, Rosalinda. And we are going to talk about the difference because there was a discussion earlier about uh Hispanics, Latinos, Latinas, Mexicans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Puerto Ricans. And it was told to me that I'm not Hispanic, I'm Mexican. So now, welcome to this special edition of the Nobody's Talking podcast. We are here with Rosalinda. What's happening?
SPEAKER_02Hello. You feel good? Yes. It's nice to be here.
SPEAKER_00Okay, now look, I have a question. We're gonna get right to it. We were talking earlier about you said you were Mexican.
SPEAKER_02Yes, sir.
SPEAKER_00Now, the question that we had was, and I Googled it, Latinos, Latinas, they're all it's all one umbrella. Now go ahead and give me your explanation of you saying that you're a Mexican.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I am Mexican. And every time somebody asks me what you are, I'm gonna say I'm Mexican.
SPEAKER_01Why?
SPEAKER_02And why? Because I was born in Mexico and raised in Mexico and came here to the U.S. Okay. To me, like I told you earlier, Latinas is basically people that they are here in the United States, that they come from, they live here in the United States, they were born here in the United States, but they're from Mexico, they are from Venezuela, from another Latin country. Okay. They're called Latinos. Latinos, uh, they're here in the United States. I call myself, and every time I can't, I'm Mexican.
SPEAKER_00So when they say, now do you get offended?
SPEAKER_02No, or you don't get offended, but you just No, I don't get offended, but um I'm gonna tell them I'm Mexican. When it said, Oh, you're Hispanic, I'm Mexican. Yes, Mexicans are under the umbrella of Spanish because we speak Spanish. Right. But if you know where a person is from, especially like if they were born there, so you want to say yes, I am Mexican.
SPEAKER_00Very interesting.
SPEAKER_02So now that you know, I'm Mexican. I'm not don't call me Latina, Hispanic, Mexican.
SPEAKER_00Y'all hear that out there in Podcastland? Don't call her Latina. Latina. I'm Mexican.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I don't get offended by no means, and it's fine, but I'd rather be called Mexican.
Switching To Oscars Talk
SPEAKER_00Okay. Now, since we got that out the way, we will shift. And we're gonna talk about uh your your favorite, Michael B. Jordan. Because I heard that Michael B. Jordan is the latest Oscar winner for uh best actor. Congrats to Michael B. Jordan.
SPEAKER_02Congrats to him now.
Fruitvale Station And Coogler Context
SPEAKER_00Hold on, I'm sitting up here, I'm pulling it up now. Well, he's super hyped. And hold on, let's see. See, I don't even know. Hold on, let's let's pull up the Oscar. Uh the Oscar winners. This could be the special edition, the Oscar edition. Let's see. Oscars 2026. Uh let's go, winners. So here's the full list right here. Oh shit, hold on. I see two black faces right here. So the full list of winners. A one battle after another was named Best Picture. That's a good movie. Now, y'all know I'm always talking about movies. So that was a very, very good movie. One battle after another. Uh named Best Picture. We have Sinners. Oh, damn, Sinners took four, it took on four Oscars. So Michael B. Jordan was named Best Actor, while Ryan Coogler won for Best Original Screenplay. And that's a good team. Now remember I was telling you about uh Fru Vale Station?
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm that you gotta watch uh that movie based on the true story or is the true story?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, let me see. So now it says, let's see, right here, it says uh Fruville Station is a 2013 American biographical drama film written and directed by Ryan Kugler uh in his feature directorial debut, based on the events leading to the death of Oscar Grant, a young man killed in 2009 by Bay Area uh Rapid Transit police officers or police officer. I mean, it's it's a great movie. It was sad, but I mean you definitely gotta watch it. Yeah, no, it's that's Michael B. Jordan, he did his thing right there. He did he definitely did his thing. But uh, let me see what else. We got uh uh Jesse, Jesse Buckley was named Best Actress for Hamlet.
SPEAKER_02What movie was that?
SPEAKER_00Hamlet. Now, this is what somebody said. They said it was based on Hamlet. Hamlet is, I think it's a Shakespeare, you know, like Romeo and Juliet and all that. So someone, this now, I'm just going, hey, once again, y'all know we don't fact check, so I'm just letting y'all know. They were saying Hamlet is supposed to be Hamlet's son. Now, if I'm wrong, hey, whatever. Now the kids say don't at me. Just uh, I'm just telling you the uh fake news that I've heard. Let's see, we got um well, let's see what else. So best directing that was Ryan Coogler. Oh no, no, the best director was with the one battle after another.
SPEAKER_02Paul Thomas.
SPEAKER_00Sinners took home Oscars, Michael V. Jordan was named Best Actor, while Ryan Kogler was best original screenplay for the film, uh, best original score. I don't know how to say this dude. Ludwig, Ludwig Gorson, and best cinematic, uh, cinematic uh cinematography. Oh, cinematography. Best cinematography. Uh Autumn. I don't know how even how to say her name. Arnold Durard Archapal who became the first woman to ever win the award. Hey, shout out to her. Hey, you know, Norman Power. No, exactly. Uh I forgot the Oscars was even on, being honest.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, me too.
One Battle After Another Reactions
SPEAKER_00So Best Picture. Hey, I'm telling y'all, y'all need to watch the uh one battle after another. And it was some, I'm pretty sure, for best actor that Michael B. Jordan won, it was a lot of people up for that one. It was some good people because I know Leonardo DiCaprio.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00For one battle after another. Dude, that dude, he played that part good. Like, real good.
SPEAKER_02I need to see that movie.
SPEAKER_00That's that movie is great. That movie is great. And um Tiana Taylor, she did real, real good in that movie. I know, I know she got a little backlash because um I forget what award she won at one of the other award shows, but some people were talking about oh, yeah, she got one. A big one. No, I was like, uh, they they just hating. Let's see, let's see what else we got.
SPEAKER_02Woman of color, they're gonna hate.
SPEAKER_00No, hey, absolutely. She did real good, and it was like, oh, she was with Leah, whatever. Just go watch the movie, it was a real good one. Hey, most of the times when these Oscar movies come out, I've never heard of none of them. So at least I did see Sinners, I did see one battle after another. Uh Hamnet, I've never seen that.
unknownNo, me neither.
SPEAKER_00Let's see. Uh what else we got? So that's Avatar, Fire and Ash, Best Visual Effect.

SPEAKER_02Uh oh, I see uh production design Frankenstein. Oh Frankenstein? Frankenstein.
SPEAKER_00Oh, damn. I haven't seen that either. I heard it was good. Hey, look, I guess, now I'm assuming these are, oh, these are the nominees for Best Actor. Timothy Chalamet in Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio in one battle after another, Ethan Hawk in Blue Moon, obviously Michael B. Jordan, and uh Wagner, Wagner Mora, and The Secret Agent. Now, the only one I'm I'm not uh real familiar with Wagner, but uh shout out to him. I'm pretty sure he's uh if he's nominated, I'm pretty sure he's a good actor. But so yeah, damn, that's that's man. Michael B. Jordi took the he took some some good people down. Let's see who was up for uh best actress. We got the Jesse Buckley and Hamlet, she was the winner. Oh, Rose Byrne. Uh if I had legs, I'll kick you. Never saw that. A Kate Hudson and uh Song Sung Blue.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00Oh, Tiana Taylor? Tiana Taylor. Shout out to her. Hell yeah. Number one. I'm looking at the best supporting actor. Benicio del Toro in one battle after another. Uh Jacob E. Lord and Frankenstein. Deroy Lindo in Centers. I love Deroy Lindo. Sean Penn, who won, excuse me, in one battle after another. And Stellan. Stellan, Stellan Skarsgard and Centennial Value. Sean Penn, I'm gonna tell y'all right now. Man, this cat, because okay, so Sean Penn was in one battle after another, and Benicio del Toro. They both did fantastic. But Sean Penn, man, y'all, for the for all the old people, y'all remember Sean Penn, who was Spicoli, and uh Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This dude's acting. They say he did a real good job. Um, it was a movie called Milk. I guess he was a governor. I think he was gay. I forget what he was a governor, he was he was in politics. I think it was the governor. I forget of what uh state. Um, but they say he did real good in milk. Sean Penn, if you saw like his earlier movies and he played that Coley, he was just like some surfer burnout dude, but he played the role real good. I'm telling y'all, all go watch one battle after another. Because Sean Penn, man, he he did a fantastic job. I was sitting there when I was watching it the whole time. Every time he came on screen with my mouth open, like like the dude is just, he's so, I mean, that's what you're supposed to do when you're an actor, but he was so believable. I'm like, man, it is. Let's let's see what else we got. Oh, so our best supporting actress, uh L Fanning and uh Centennial, or oh actually, I said Centennial, my bad. Sentimental value. Yeah, I'm sitting there trying to look real fast. My apologies. So L Fanning and the other guy that the name of the movie is Sentimental Value. Uh good lord, how do you say her name? Let's see, best adaptive screenplay. Oh my lord. So look. Oh, listen, that's good because they noticed when you said Frankenstein, uh, you know, Frankenstein is on Netflix. So it's good that they include that. I wonder when did they start? Because before, sometimes some of the Netflix shows didn't get a lot of play. Hamnet, obviously the guy, one battle after another, for best adaptive screenplay, he was the winner of that. Best original screenplay, that's the Ryan Coogler. I see his outfit, that's what you call casket clean. You know what casket clean means? When they say you casket clean, you know, when you pass on and you're in a casket, you know, people in the casket is always real sharp.

They said part two is supposed to come out. Best international feature. Oh hell, we're about to have fun with this. Brazil, the secret agent, France, it was just an accident, Norway. Okay, so that uh sentimental value is nor uh uh Norwegian.

SPEAKER_02The AI video where all like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, not Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson. All the famous people that are the past, they're on the video, and they're receiving like their Oscars and stuff. Oh, really? Yeah, it's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. Hey, I'm a terrible. Listen. I'm a big fan for Selena's family. I know uh oh somebody's family. Speaking of AI. Once again, we don't fact check. Somebody's family was like, can't, oh, who it was, I obviously it's somebody that passed. And they keep putting them, they keep sending them stuff, like little tribute stuff. And it's AI, and the family is like, man, can y'all please stop? Like, I forget who it is. But I I've seen a couple to where I seen Michael Jordan, not Michael, Michael Jordan. Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson, uh Kobe, Tupac, like Bruce Lee. They were all like at a like a Lakers game. I was like, that is spooky.
SPEAKER_02No, that's like if they're in the Oscars and they're re and then, well, who was it? Kobe. Yeah. Kobe was like introducing the winner of something and they give it to Michael, Michael Jackson. And then you see like all Tupac. Like, yeah, it's just sad. It's like, damn, that's crazy.
