Welcome to Cortburg Speaks Retirement

An audio podcast about investing in the stock market, financial planning, money management and retirement planning.  Each Wednesday, we help investors at all stages of life learn how to potentially grow and preserve their money from first job through retirement.

Now here is your host, Miguel Gonzalez.

Good morning and welcome to the CORTBURG SPEAKS RETIREMENT audio podcast.

This week, let’s take a step back from the numbers and talk about something a little more personal—your money personality.

We all handle money differently. Some people love to save every dollar, while others enjoy spending on experiences. Some take financial risks easily, and others prefer to play it safe.
Understanding your money personality isn’t about judgment—it’s about awareness. Because once you understand why you make financial decisions, you can start making better ones.

1. The Saver

You take pride in being responsible. You plan ahead, avoid debt, and find comfort in having a safety cushion. The challenge for savers is learning when it’s okay to spend—especially on things that create joy or lasting memories.
Remember, saving is a strength, but it’s also important to enjoy the rewards of your hard work.

2. The Spender

You see money as a way to enjoy life, celebrate wins, and create experiences. There’s nothing wrong with that—but unchecked spending can lead to stress or debt.
The key for spenders is balance: setting limits, tracking purchases, and making sure short-term enjoyment doesn’t come at the expense of long-term goals.

3. The Avoider

You’d rather not think about money at all—maybe it feels complicated or stressful. The problem is, ignoring financial details can create bigger issues later.
Start small. Review your bank account once a week, or set one specific goal, like saving $100 this month. The more you face your finances, the more confident you’ll become.

4. The Risk Taker

You’re open to opportunity—you see potential where others see uncertainty. That mindset can lead to growth, but it also comes with volatility.
The key for risk takers is discipline. Stay diversified, have a plan, and balance your adventurous side with realistic guardrails.

5. The Giver

You find joy in generosity—supporting family, friends, or causes you care about. It’s a beautiful quality, but giving too freely can strain your own financial stability.
Set boundaries that allow you to give comfortably without sacrificing your own financial well-being.

In Closing

No matter your money personality, awareness is power. When you understand your natural tendencies, you can build a plan that plays to your strengths and keeps your weaknesses in check.

Money isn’t just about math—it’s about mindset.
