Welcome to Cortburg Speaks Retirement

Now here is your host, Miguel Gonzalez.
Good morning and welcome to the CORTBURG SPEAKS RETIREMENT audio podcast.
As spring approaches, many of us think about cleaning out closets, organizing our homes, and refreshing our routines.
But this season is also the perfect opportunity to clean up and refresh your financial life. A few intentional steps can bring clarity, reduce stress, and help you stay aligned with your goals for the rest of the year.
1. Review Your Recurring Expenses
Subscriptions, automatic renewals, and app charges are easy to overlook.
Take a careful look at what’s being billed monthly—streaming services, memberships, delivery plans—and cancel anything that no longer adds value.
These small adjustments can make a meaningful difference over time.
2. Update Your Accounts and Beneficiaries
Major life events—marriage, divorce, children, or job changes—should always prompt an account review.
Verify beneficiaries, emergency contacts, and login details to ensure everything reflects your current life and goals.
3. Revisit Your Budget
Spring is an ideal time to compare your planned budget with your actual spending.
Are there categories that have shifted? Are certain expenses consistently higher or lower than you expected?
A seasonal budget reset helps you stay realistic and proactive.
4. Take Inventory of Your Savings Progress
Look at your emergency fund, retirement contributions, and any personal savings goals.
Are you pacing well so far this year?
A mid-year checkpoint allows you to adjust your strategy before too much time passes.
5. Organize Your Financial Documents
Whether you prefer digital storage or a file cabinet, creating a simple system for statements, tax records, and account documents reduces clutter.
This also makes it easier to find what you need during tax time or major financial decisions.
6. Check for Overlapping or Unused Accounts
Spring is a good time to identify old financial accounts you may no longer need—duplicate savings accounts, unused credit cards, or old workplace retirement plans sitting untouched.
While you may not take action immediately, simply identifying these accounts helps you streamline and reduce complexity going forward.
In Closing
Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home. Tidying up your financial life gives you renewed motivation, clearer direction, and more confidence for the rest of the year.
Small steps taken now can create meaningful momentum throughout the months ahead
