Welcome to Daily Communion at Home

Speaker 1

thank you for joining us today , wherever you are across the world , for daily communion at home , a scripture-based prayer and time of faith and renewal and worship through the power of the word of god as we just connect around the world . Thank you so much for this daily communion time as we come and rest before the Lord . My name is Reverend Ben Cooper , broadcasting live from London here in England . A sacred moment , and we invite you to draw near to God through the power of Jesus Christ as we break bread and as we share this cup , grounded in our faith in this timeless promise of the word of Jesus Christ . As we break bread and as we share this cup , grounded in our faith in this timeless promise of the word of God , wherever you are , I want to invite you to break bread with me today and to take it a cup today . Maybe this is something that we haven't done for many , many years , wherever we are , and , as I always say , let's remind ourselves that this has nothing to do with the fabric and the building of religion and the church . This is to do with scripture . So today , I boldly invite you , I boldly invite you wherever you are outside of the , the fabric of the tent of church outside of a sunday , outside of a prayer group , just me , me and you . Communion at home

The Call to Go

Speaker 1

. The title today is the Call to Go , coming from the Gospel of Matthew , chapter 28 , verses 19 through to 20 . As we record this live here in London , england , and the scripture , as I've just referenced , says this go there for , and make disciples of all nations . Father , we come to you , lord , and we have a privilege to carry the word of God , and we want to let our light shine in our work , in our home , in our relationships , in family , in life , in the school playground , in the playground of life . Lord , wherever we are . Lord , even on the social media platforms that we may be on , lord , we want to let our light shine . Lord , we want to come away from the crowd and , lord the posts that we put up on social media , we want to tell the world about the love of Jesus . So , lord , right now , communion at home . We come before you , lord , and we're going to break bread .

Speaker 1

Brother and sister , I invite you , wherever you are across the world , to grab yourself a bit of bread and a bit of wine , a bit of grape juice , whatever you've got . Just a corner of a bit of bread and just a bit of wine . You know grape juice , as I've just said . You know it is symbolic . You know , and I pray that wherever you are today , that you will feel the love and the fire and the glory of God . This is such a great privilege that we have to take this cup together . You know , the bread reminds us of Jesus's body that was broken . You know the bread that reminds us of that beautiful body that was broken . And that cup . You know the redemption cup , the third cup on the table . You know that cup of redemption .

Speaker 1

Wherever you are , come on , let's break bread together . Are you sitting in your van ? You're sitting at your desk ? You're sitting at home ? You know , sitting on the edge of your bed . Wherever you are , I want to encourage you . Maybe you're in the staff room , or maybe you're just in the church office , or you're in a office , maybe you're out sitting in a field , you're sitting on your patio .

Speaker 1

You know it doesn't matter where we are , because it's our heart . It's got nothing to do with the building . You know , with the greatest respect in the world , brother and sister , it is not the building that we need . It is Jesus Christ that we require . It is the power of God , it is the Father , the Son , the Holy Spirit . And you know what , when God gave the instruction to Moses and to Aaron to distribute this out , you know from the book of Exodus , chapter 12 , he was in the open air . You know , this was given outside . This was given outside of religion . It was given outside of the church as we know it , but for some unknown reason , and I know the reason . We know the reason , but without going into the theological depths and the complicated way of denominations , we understand what the church has done to it .

Speaker 1

But I want to tell you you are free to break bread with me today . You don't need the permission of the bishop , you don't need the permission of your pastor or your leaders and brother and sister , just remind yourself yourself , you are free to do this at home . Communion at home , you know . I believe lockdown , you know , was absolutely brutal , but what lockdown was able to do ? It was able , uh , to bring this to the home , to the table at home , you know , to bring it back to the basics , that we was able to break bread at home with your family , with your friends , with your work colleagues for those that was trapped in work , you know , for certain areas , through that terrible time where you was just able to be locked in and to be able to take the bread and the wine . I want to encourage you today in this 15 minute you know , prayer , devotional time , a communion at home as we break bread .

Speaker 1

And let's turn to the scriptures

Breaking Bread Together

Speaker 1

right now . You know God has made us disciples . You are a disciple and as you live your life , the world is looking at you . But we're going to break bread together now and this is really really important for us as Bible-believing believers because we're not doing this because religion tells us , we're not doing it because the established church is telling us . We're doing it because God and Christ God in the Old Testament , christ within the New Testament is just bringing it to the forerunner that , as often as you gather together in my name , do this .

Speaker 1

I want to invite you now , wherever you are . This is just me and you . This is just us two . We might have thousands of people downloading this and we might have so many people right at this second with us , but it's just me and you and that's all that matters . It doesn't matter . You don't need your pastor , you don't need your worship team . You don't need permission from anybody , you are free , because the Bible says who the son sets free is free indeed . So what does the bread do ?

Speaker 1

The bread reminds me that it is symbolic to the body of Christ . What does the wine juice , the grape juice , what does that do ? It reminds me that it is symbolic to the blood of Jesus . So let's take some time and let's just pray together , father , we pray together . Lord , that we will be rooted in sound doctrine . Lord , that we will , dear God , have a missionary heart . Lord , that we will want to go out and reach the loss for Jesus Christ , that we will be able to go out in the name of Jesus . Lord , that we will realize that we belong to a global church , a church without walls , a church , lord , that is unstoppable , known as the kingdom of God . So , lord , we commit ourselves afresh to you today and we ask that you will call us again and again , afresh to you today , and we ask that you will call us again and again . Lord , I thank you for the prodigals , because I was a prodigal and sometimes , lord , I'm still a prodigal .

Speaker 1

Lord , I go and I lay down and I move in the circle of life , lord , and I hang around pigs . Oh God , help me , jesus , you know what I mean . Brother and sister , we know exactly what we're saying . God , help me , jesus , you know what I mean . Brother and sister , we know exactly what we're saying . Lord , why do I want to hang around with swine ? Why do I want to feed from the pig trough of life , when I've got the opportunity to graze from the grace of God and to come into that place , lord , of fulfillment ? So , lord , help me not to hang around with swine , help me not to hang around in those areas of life . That is no good for me . So , lord , call me out of the pit , call us out .

Speaker 1

Today , lord , we want to go and make disciples of all nations . Lord , we don't want that reverse when we go into the crowd . The crowd tried to manipulate and shape us . So as we come , dear God , to the cross of Calvary , as we come to break bread together , today , lord , we want to shape the crowd for Jesus Christ . We don't want to be shaped by the crowd of life . We don't want to be , dear God , walking with swine . We , dear God , want to infiltrate the devil's territory , lord , and we want to see the glory of God , the power of the Holy Spirit . So glory , lord , and we want to see the glory of God , the power of the Holy Spirit . So , lord , in this profound act , we proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of Christ's sacrifice . The sacrifice has been paid and we come to you right now , in the name of Jesus .

Speaker 1

And whether we're alone , sharing this now with Pastor Ben , or whether we're in a crowd , whether we're alone sharing this now with Pastor Ben , or whether we're in a crowd , whether we're in a house church , whether we're sitting in the van with some colleagues sitting on the scaffold , sitting at the desk , sitting in our school space , sitting at home , wherever we are , you tell us where two or three are gathered in my name . There you are . So , father , we thank you that you're with us . I'm in this studio on my own and you might be on your own , but together we are joined in spirit . We are joined in spirit . You know that great writer writes even though I can't be with you in bodily form , I am with you in spirit .

Speaker 1

I'm with you now and we're going to break bread together now , and we're not going to allow religion to stop us , because the Bible tells us as often as you gather together in my name . Do this in remembrance of me . So , father , we thank you that this is a privilege . Lord , this is beautiful for us . Maybe this is the first time that you've broken bread for

The Cup of Redemption

Speaker 1

such a long time , and I pray for you right now that you will just take your time and you will join me wherever you are .

Speaker 1

So let's pray for this bread , father . We understand , as we come to the bread right now , as we hold the bread and we meditate on Luke , chapter 22 , verse 19 , that this is my body , which was given for you . Do this in remembrance of me , lord . This is my body , which was given for you . Do this in remembrance of me , lord . This is so simple and lord , I'm a sinner saved by grace , and this bread reminds me , reminds us , that jesus christ is our spiritual subsonance and , lord , you are the way . You are the bread of life . So , father , I thank you that you are the bread of life .

Speaker 1

And as I hold this bread right now , I thank you , father , that I do not come as a religious person , I do not come as a minister , I do not come as a reverend , I do not come as an evangelist , lord , a churchgoer , I just stand and I come as a born-again , a born-again Christian , a son or a daughter . That's it , that's just me . God , I just come to you in my rawness , lord , just in my openness , with all the pitfalls , with all the valleys , with all the trials , with all the tribulations . Lord , I've got rucksacks , lord , on my back today , weighing me down the rucksack of life . But , lord , help me to lay it down at the cross . And where I can't get this rucksack off my back , will you cut the ties , cut the straps , lord , let the rucksack fall of fear , of doubt , of uncertainty , of religion , Lord of fear . So today , lord , I come bold , I come bold and I come strong . And right now , lord , this bread , as I hold it , I thank you that it is symbolic to the body of Christ . Bless this bread as I take this with my brothers and sisters around this globe today , spirit of the living God , I thank you that this bread symbolizes the body of Christ . Bless it , amen .

Speaker 1

So simple , isn't it ? So simple , see , we don't need pastors and we don't need leaders , we don't need the cathedral , we don't need the bells and the whistles of the social media church , we don't need all that that goes on . We just can be at home Communion at home , communion at work , communion in school , communion at the staff room , communion wherever Because you are , you are part of the body of Christ . We are the church . We don't need these four walls , it doesn't matter . Yes , I'm in a studio . Yes , I'm in live recording this in London , england . Yes , I am here , I'm in this studio on my own and , yes , I'm in the church and the studio is nestled in the church building . But I don't need the building , I just need Jesus . So I come to you now .

Speaker 1

Let's pick up this cup . Let's turn to the book of 1 Corinthians , 11 , verse 25 , and this is what it says . When I lift this cup , I recall these words of 1 Corinthiansinthians , chapter 11 , 25 this is a cup of no covenant in my blood . Do this whenever you drink it in remembrance of me . This covenant seals god's promises for forgiveness , healing and eternal praise through the precious blood of the lord jesus christ . Let me just repeat this this covenant seals God's promises for forgiveness , healing and the eternal peace through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ .

Speaker 1

So , father , I come to you with an open heart and I come to you today as a sinner saved by grace , not as a minister , not as a reverend , not as a chaplain

The Body of Christ Beyond Walls

Speaker 1

, not as an author or a podcaster , not as any title .

Speaker 1

I come just as a son and my brothers and sisters around the world . We thank you , lord , that our titles are stripped away and you call us by name . So , lord , I lift this cup , just this tiny amount of juice , because that's all I need . So , lord , I lift this cup , just this tiny amount of juice , because that's all I need . So , father , will you cover me from the crown of my head to the sole of my feet today and wash me in the crimson tide in the blood of Jesus , spirit of the living God . I thank you that there is power . In the name of Jesus , as I take this now with my sisters , with my brothers , I thank you for the power of forgiveness . Cleanse me from the crown of my head to the sole of my feet . Amen . How beautiful , how beautiful is this ? Please , sister and brother , never give up . This is communion at home . This is powerful . We don't need a building , we need Jesus
