Psalm 34:18 — Comfort for the Lonely, the Grieving, and the Empty Chair at Christmas From London to Johannesburg, from New York to Auckland, from Reykjavik to Accra — a global 10 P.M. prayer within the DailyPrayer.uk 24-Hour Devotional Cycle. Scripture (NIV): Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted…” | Isaiah 41:10 — “Do not fear, for I am with you…” Across global search platforms tonight, spikes rise for “loneliness at night,” “missing someone at Christmas,” and “why does grief feel heavier in December?” The night intensifies absence. Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, draw near to every person ending this day with heaviness and quiet pain. Comfort those facing the empty chair, those missing a loved one, those whose grief resurfaces when the world slows. Bring warmth where memories ache, rest where tears fall, hope where hearts feel fragile. Let Your presence settle the room, silence emotional noise, lift sorrow, and give deep sleep to the weary. Heal wounds of loss, restore strength, and hold every listener in Your nearness. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Prayer Points: prayer for comfort, prayer for grief, prayer for loneliness, prayer for emotional rest, prayer for night peace, prayer for healing memories, prayer for God’s presence, prayer for hope, prayer for calm, prayer for restoration Life Application: Before sleep, release the weight you are carrying by speaking it aloud to God, then ask Him to hold what your heart cannot manage tonight. Declaration: I declare that God’s comfort surrounds me and restores peace to my heart tonight. Call to Action: Share this prayer and visit DailyPrayer.uk for global devotional resources.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to Daily Prayer with myself, Reverend Ben Cooper, recorded live here in London, England, where the world gathers for five minutes of faith, hope, and strength. Yes, we are. We are still in the crazy month of December. But we're never gonna give up. We're gonna keep praying. We're gonna pray for loneliness. We're gonna pray for grief. We're gonna pray for the empty table, the empty chair, the empty workspace, the empty car seat. You know, we gotta lock in. As I said just a few moments ago on our other uh prayer time, just a moment ago, you know, we are living in the end days, and the church is not cutting the cloth according to the scripture. If you are struggling with your church, if you are struggling with the preachers and the teachers, I need to tell you this now. You've got a lock in to scripture, you've got to lock into prayer. David hit a troublesome time in his life, and the Bible says that David strengthened himself in the Lord. It's really important that the only place that we will find strength is in the Word of God and through prayer. Now that may mean, I can't believe what I'm about to say, is to leave church for a while and to really seek the kingdom of God. Because do you need another smoke machine? Do you need another uh worldly lyrical song? Do you need a miracle? Are you getting healed at church? Are you getting free at church? We are living in the last days, we are watching the great falling away of the church. I'm spending a little bit more before we hit in. So please hold with me. I know you're in a rush. But sister and brother, I gotta tell you now to get into scripture. It is the word of God, it will only be the word of God, it is always the word of God, it is the word of God and prayer and communication. Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask you right now, respectfully, Lord, help us. Because Lord, ministry and church, religion, Lord, we're not seeing the miracles that the Bible says. We're hearing some unusual things. And Lord, we're going to church lonely. We're carrying grief when we're in church. Lord, we got issues in our lives that the church is not dealing with and it can't deal with that. So Lord, I pray right now for the brothers and sisters around the world, from London to Manila, from Manila to the Philippines, from Philippines, right away to Tel Aviv, from Tel Aviv, dear God, to Israel, dear God, Gaza, Palestine, Spirit of the Living God, Afghanistan, Japan, Malta. Lord, bless Malta, Brazil. Come, Lord. But right now, Father, we pray for the global church. Because there are many of us going to church, Jesus, that are lonely, that are scared. Sunday after Sunday, hour after hour. Lord, the church isn't helping us to deal with this grief and this abuse that we're carrying. Father, religion can't seem to cut it anymore, or it never did in the first place. Lord, there are many of us that are looking at empty chairs in our lives and we're lonely and we need Jesus. So, Father, I pray right now for the church around the world. Father, that the church will focus on Jesus Christ and the scripture. But Lord, I bring the listeners right before you now. And I pray for every listener that keeps going to church hour after hour, meeting after meeting, that is still carrying a broken heart. So Lord, there is only one place that I need to get to, and that is to the cross of Calvary. And Lord, I pray that Psalm 34, verse 18 will fire up in my spirit. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. And Lord, we need this Revelation 21, 4. He will wipe away every tear from your eyes. Wherever you are, I pray through this Christmas time. I pray for this season that as you look at the empty chair, as you go back into church, as you come back out of church and you feel the exact same, I pray that the love of God will lead you, lead you to the Word of God. Sisters and brothers, this prayer has been a little bit different, but I pray for those that are going through grief right now. I pray for those that are going through loneliness right now, for those that are looking at the empty dinner table, for those, dear God, that are looking at the coat still hanging in the hallway, the hat that will never move again, for those, dear God, that are looking at the empty chair, the slippers that are not moving. Father, when we go to church and no one in the area of leadership knows how to engage in us, and we go to church feeling lonely, we leave church lonely, and Lord, we need miracles. You are a God of miracles. Your word tells us that you are a miracle working God. And Lord, there are so many Christians right now crying, and the church doesn't even recognize that we're crying. Lord, there are so many believers sitting in church in prayer meetings with their hearts aching and bruised and scared and worried, and pastors are just looking over and through them. Lord, there are so many of us going and wanting worship, and all we're getting is just a secularized bit of rhythm. And Lord, there are so many of us that need to worship in spirit and in truth. Come, God, I pray that we will worship in spirit and in truth. I pray for the listeners today, wherever they are. Lord, as they go to church, they will be able to see the cross and they will focus at that cross and they will know that Jesus is with them. I pray for the empty chair at this season. I pray, dear God, for the empty space in people's lives right now. I pray for those that are going through grief and anxiety and worry and fear. Bless them from the crown of their head to the sole of their feet. Thank you for standing and praying with us today for more daily devotions. Follow us on the social platform dailyprayer.uk.
