·     2:33 Warm up round. There are three questions in the warmup round to get ready for the main round.

·     5:31 Main round

·     6:01 Question one: “You do it then if you’re so clever.” This quote does occur around the same time as one of the warmup questions if that helps at all. This quote is also a good insight into several characters; this insight also helps us see further into the relationship of the two characters involved.

·     10:48 Question two: “There will be no need to talk.” Similar to the last quote, it is a good insight into character. This character puts a lot of thought into image and rules, making sure that everything is done perfectly.

·     15:19 Question three: “Come on Tom, let’s finish it the way we started. Together.” This quote seems obvious, but there are several characters that might have said this. It does only apply to a couple situations, but many characters. This quote has the qualities of a good meme, but it also has a sense of finality and it a perfect addition to the story.

·      19:28 Question four: “Don’t be a prat. Do him!” Although this is not the nicest of quotes, it is a wonderful insight into plot. It makes sense when you hear the answer, but there are many characters and situations that could apply.

·     22:44 Question five: “Fame is a fickle friend, Harry.” This is rather a funny quote given by a ridiculous character in the wrong situation.

·     25:35 Question six: “What’s basketball?” This is a lesser-known quote in the story. It isn’t commonly quoted quote and is rather obscure. However, it shows good contrast between the magical and muggle world which is helpful for the reader. We know only what the story can tell us and showing how blurred the lines are between the magical and muggle world is a fascinating thing.

·     29:22 Question seven: “Avada kadavra!!!” What an awesome quote! Not much of a secret who says this, but this scene is a good end to this episode.

·     31:52 Challenge Question: “Yes, but the world isn’t split into good people and death eaters.” Tune in next week to find out the answer!

Welcome to The Potter Discussion.

Oscar:
Welcome back to the Potter discussion, discussing Harry Potter fantastic beast and the Wizarding World fandom. I'm your host, Oscar and this is episode 155. Thank you all for joining me on this lovely day. I am very excited to be recording because this is going to be a wonderfully, awesome episode. Today is a Quiz Master. Yet another Quiz Master. I'm very excited for this quiz Master quotes. Now, this is a very special episode because this idea comes from one of you, from a listener, rather funny name. Ur an L Bozo left a review on Apple podcast, five stars. Thank you very much. Suggesting quiz master quotes. So Ur an L Bozo. This is the episode you requested. If you would like your episode heard and you can leave review and follow in your in elbows footsteps, leaving five stars, send me an email. My email is thepotterdiscus@gmail.com or DM. My DM on Instagram is at the Potter discussion and at Potter underscore discuss on Twitter if you want your idea heard on the show. So let's get into today's episode. As all Quiz Masters work, we must start out with the warmup round. If you are a veteran of the Potter discussion, as I always say, you know what's coming next, you know what's going on. But if you don't, I'll give you a quick breakdown. So there are two main sections of Quizmaster. There is the warmup around, which is three rapid fire questions just to get the brain juices flowing. There's the main round, which is maybe some more difficult questions. I'll give you some more time to think on those and then we will have the challenge question. So the challenge question is a very difficult question that I ask you all that relates to the theme of this episode that I will give you an entire week to think about. And I will provide the answer to you in the next episode, episode 156, just so you can really mull it over in the hot water like Harry did and really get a good handle on the question. So that is the main structure. Warm up round, main round, challenge question. But since we're here, let's just go through it into the warm up round. So we have three questions, as I have said, three questions that are quotes. This is the theme of the episode. Quotes. I will be saying a quote to you and your job will be to know who said it, why and when. A lot of different elements to this Quiz Master. So here is the one. Print. I'll be giving you three questions back to back, rapid fire, no answers in between, just these questions. And I'll go through them kind of breaking down a little bit. And then we'll get into the main round. So here are the warmup quotes. Number one, have a biscuit, Potter. Number two, no wonder she hasn't got any friends. And number three, you're a bit more well along than I would have expected, particularly around the middle. These are our warmup quotes. I hope you got some of them right. You got to think, think, think back in your mind, really get ready for this episode. Now, these were meant to be not terribly difficult, just quotes to think back on in the story. So now let's go through them really quickly and get the answers and then jump right into the main round. So, number one, have a biscuit. Potter, of course, is McGonigal's famous quote. I think this is when Harry goes in, when Umbridge gives him the parchment and he has to go to McGonigal's office because he spoke out against Umbridge. And McDonagle says, Sit down, have a biscuit. And Harry says, I don't want a biscuit. But she goes, have a biscuit. So that is a very funny scene. And number two, no wonder she hasn't got any friends. That is Ron Weasley's quote Come on, Ron. About Hermione. Nonetheless, in The Sorcerer's Stones is the film, these quotes will be mixed books and films. And he's saying about Hermione as they were walking out of the Charms class, saying she's a nightmare, can't work with anyone, no wonder she hasn't got any friends. And of course Hermione hears him and runs away. And then the third quote, you're a bit more well along than I'd have expected, particularly round of the middle. That is Hagrid's very own quote. That is a Rubius hagrid line. That is a hagrid line. And he says that again in The Sorcerer Stone when he comes to the House on the Rock to get Harry to go to Dagon Alley. And he sees Dudley and thinks that's Harry And he says, oh, they're a bit more well long than I've expected, particularly around the middle. So bit of a mic drop on Dudley there. And Harry introduces himself. Hagrid and Harry become besties and they go off into the sunset. So those are our warmup round quotes. I hope you got some of those right and I hope that your brain is ready for the main round. We've got a lot more questions, a lot more time spent on these and a lot more breakdowns to do. So sit back, relax and let's get into the main round. Welcome to the main round, everyone. I'm glad you could join me. So in this lovely main round of ours, in the headquizmaster quotes for the Potter discussion, we have seven beautiful questions. Seven questions, I'll be telling you the quote may be given some context, maybe giving some hints along the way, and I will reveal the answer. And good job if you got them ready because there's some pretty difficult ones in here. And we'll move on to next question. And then the challenge question will be at the very end, so make sure you stick around. So, without further ado, let's get into the first question. And the first quote that you will decipher is you do it then if you're so clever. Now, this is around the same time frame as one of the warm up quotes, if that gives you any kind of hint. But I really like this quote because I think without giving away too much, it's a good insight into not only character but also the future for one or more characters. Because I think it shows that sometimes you don't have to really, you know, have an amazing first impression to become really great friends with a person and have a really wonderful relationship with a person. Of course, I haven't liked every single person I've ever met, but I've developed some really good friendships with a lot of people and I've done that because I've been around them for years and really enjoying their company. So I think this is definitely a testament to that. It definitely shows that a first impression is not all there is and you can never make another first impression, but you can make many more impressions on a person. I just like this scene in general, just kind of the aroma of it, I guess you'd say. And of course, we'll talk more and more about it when I give you the answer because I can't give away too much. But I think it's a good way of really giving us a good kind of window into what's really happening into the inner workings. You know, it's like if you have like a magnifying glass, you can kind of see into the different, like, greens of wood and all these kinds of things. You have a really nice kind of zoom, a nice kind of like you open the electrical panel and really see what's inside. So this is a really great insight and a great tool to really see what's going on in here. And I think I have stalled long enough. I've given you enough time. This is, of course, another Ron Weasley quote. He spakest this that's what I said, spake. He says this quote in the Sorcerer Stone in the film, and it was in the charms class before they left. And he said no wonders. And Gandhi friends, they were practicing a wingardium oliviosa and they had feathers and they're all practicing. And of course, this is the famous stuff. Stuff. You're gonna take someone with eye out. It's livio santa saw. I love this quote. Of course, that's too easy. I cannot put that in there. But of course we have to mention it. But now, this is the quote right after that. So she says, Stop, stop, stop. You've got to take someone's eye out. It's lovely. Oh, some lovely oh saw. And then Ron says, you do it then if you're so clever, which is the answer to this question. A big round of applause if you got this one right. But if not, there are plenty more to go. But now I can kind of more discuss with characteristics and everything. So I really like that this is the first main kind of body of Ron and Hermione's relationship because I think it is a very interesting thing that they didn't start out best. But I think the whole enemy's becoming friends trope is definitely a common one. That I think really works. And I think the fact that they aren't really enemies and they aren't really friends is what makes this all the more kind of exciting and interesting because it could swing either way and we kind of are losing hope because we see them not really getting along that great. And they aren't really the bestest of friends. They don't really agree. So our hope is kind of dwindling for their future. If this is really the first time we're seeing them, we don't really think they're going to be much of a unit in the future just because we see that how much they are not very compatible. Although they do become very good friends. We still see this later. I mean, Harry, Ron and hermione are bickering and arguing a lot and Harry just kind of has to sit there and just take it reached a peak in the prison neuroscavan with Scabbers and Crookshanks and they were really going at it. So we definitely see this theme further into the story. But I think I'm definitely glad that this is a more of a negative feedback loop and we see that their friendship is the thing that wins out in the end, which is a very beautiful end to a wonderful storyline. So that is the first quote in Quiz master quotes. But let's move on to question number two. This next one is a fun one. It is not a fun one, you'll see. Okay, so this is question number two and this quote comes from well, it's so annoying, I can't like say much without giving it away, but I feel like this is enough of an easy one that you'll be able to get it fairly quickly. So I think I'll just give you the quote because there's a pretty funny context behind the side I definitely want to share. So here is the quote. I think you'll recognize it immediately. There will be no need to talk. Got it. All right. It's your brain, so I'll give you a minute to think about this one just in case you haven't gotten it just yet. But I really like this quote. I think similar to the last one. It is a good window into character and I love quotes like these, like the ones that just are so telling about a person because I think it really makes a difference how a person acts and how a person wants to be seen and if those things are similar, if they're different and all of those kinds of things. I think with this character in particular, there is a lot of thought behind image and behind the rules and all of that kind of stuff. We actually had a recent breakdown of this character. So give me a lot of hints here. So this character, of course I'll give you the answer right now. Umbridge, Dolores, umbridge, of course there would be no need to talk. What she said before, every single Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson of reading the reading one chapter, then another chapter, and by hermione said, I read it all. Sorry, sling card. But we really read the entire book. Really a boring book too. I mean, Harry's reading the same line for like an hour, so I don't know how he managed it, but that is how this umbridge, is class one, but I am currently reading The Order of Phoenix, which is what I wanted to say when I told you this quote. But of course I would be very much giving away the answer for these kinds of episodes. I always have some kind of like one thing that I just like, I just know I'm going to put in there. And this was one thing I just knew from the start, from the second I saw that review and I picked up my notebook, I knew I was going to make this. And I write every episode on paper because I just don't want to deal with looking at a screen while I have a record. So it's all in a nice notebook, real paper, as the kids say. And what I would do is I always have my notebook and my book that I'm reading right next to me, like whenever I'm in the studio. And when I was writing this episode and writing, I just kind of write out my thoughts on a page to kind of make an outline for the episode. My book was right next to me and happy to be The Order of the Phoenix. So I was thinking, what quote should I put in? So I knew it had to be this one. So I just opened it up, found a quote and put it in. I mean, that's really how it goes. And that's actually what I did for the challenge question, because I actually know it okay, this is a rabbit hole. But what I did for the challenge question today was I just happened to be reading it. So I read like so at night is when I usually read and write episodes, and I was just reading. And actually I had a different child's question that was way too hard. I mean, it doesn't mean anything. It doesn't stand out. It's not quoted anywhere. It was impossible. And I knew I had to find a different one. So I was trying to think of a different quote to use and I was reading and I just happened to find it in the book. And I thought, that's a great quote. So that's kind of the inspiration behind the challenge question. And it's like the same thing with this pretty much. I knew I was going to put this quote in, but then just reading through and just it was like the universe was sending me a sign. I read this quote in the book and I was like, oh, okay, I put it in now. So I did. I find it funny at least, which is what counts. So thank you for listening to that rant. But that is question number two. Delores Hemridge there will be no need to talk, but let's move on to question number three. This next quote could be taken many different ways and you will see what I mean in a moment. Now, this is another one of those quotes where I was just like, we've got to put this one in there because it's an interesting one for sure. And what I mean by it can be taken many different ways. It is a huge meme, but it also means a lot for the story, which is another kind of quote that I really like. The ones that can be made fun of, but also the ones that matter the most, those are really good quotes to be thinking about. So here is the question number three quote come on, Tom, let's finish it the way we started together. Now, you could make a very educated guess, and I'd say you probably could understand where this comes from, but there are two potential characters that would, I think, makes sense for this to be the case. And I think that is definitely why. What makes a good question, it's obvious, but then it's like not like is and you're kind of just like settled on answer, you know, you're really swinging back and forth. So I'm definitely enjoying the kind of making of these episodes because the quotes are what I think make Harry Potter such a memorable story. And this quit in particular, I think is a very good example of not only finality, but also how much every single character in every single moment matters. Because although it may not seem it, a second of film could make the difference between so much. I mean, maybe if, like, Harry hadn't said this one thing, we wouldn't have all fell in love with the story and we wouldn't have rooted for him. And then we even really have read the rest of the books and would have kind of died, died off and fell away. And, you know, like, just to think, how little would I have changed in order for us to not be talking about this, in order for the story to not be where it is today. I mean, it's really mind boggling. So for this quote to be included, I think is a really good move for the filmmakers because I think, like I said, it is a meme and it is kind of ridiculous when he says it. Sorry. But also it makes sense and it is a wonderful code, I think. If it is not a meme, it is a wonderful moment for the story. It shows yet again, it shows character. It shows really where the story is going and it shows just how much this scene matters. Of course, I am talking about the answer one Harry Potter himself. Harry says this to Tom Riddle, to Voldemort. I really gave you the pieces to the puzzle here, but Harry says this to Voldemort after he, you know, comes back from the dead and they are battling just one on one. Voldemort is kind of like taking up hair with his robed, octopus arms, legs, limbs. So it is a really really good scene. And then they kind of get to this ledge where the wall has been blasted away and it is just open into a canyon. And Harry says come on Tom, let's finish it the way we started together. And he grabs them and they jump off a cliff. Lovely. What a lovely heartwarming end. But this is definitely a meme because it's one of those words you can write like alternating capital and lowercase come on time listeners, the way we started, you know, that kind of thing. So I think it is kind of like a double whammy here because it is one of those kind of cliche like let's do this together. But I think it is kind of negated by the fact that it is a villain and a hero kind of saying that they started together so they should end it together. I think that makes sense for the story. I think it definitely is a wonderful kind of cherry on top for this scene. So that is question number three. But let's move on to question number four. This next quote is from a scene that is one of my absolute favorites and that is saying a lot. I haven't really talked about it being one of my my favorite scenes, but it is certainly up there, I think, because it is a very long and meaningful scene. Of course my favorite combination. So here is the quote for question number four don't be a pratt do him. I try to kind of be in a moment and really act it out there. So there is the quote don't be a pratt doom. And this is actually I find it it is not the nicest of things. I think that is a certain fact here. But it is a wonderful thing in terms of the story, really where it is going. And it may not be an insight into character, but it is definitely an insight into plot. And I think you could definitely take it as understanding more about who the quote is about. There are really two people here. There is the donkey pratt do him directed at a character and the do him him, the person who is being convinced to be done, if that makes any sense. So this is definitely a get it or you don't kind of quote. This is one of those kinds of questions because you really have to think about this one and it makes so much sense when you hear it, but it could apply to a lot of different things and not so many a lot of characters, but a lot of different situations, because the characters that are involved in this are involved in the story since day one at Hogwarts. So it makes a lot of sense that this would be a quote that comes up quite often. Although the wording and the meaning behind it is not the same, it is still the same general idea, which is why it is such a difficult quote to really pinpoint. And I will give you one last hint for it, give you the answer. This was in the Destiny Hollows part Two the film. So that gives you any idea? One of my favorite scenes. Come on. All right. I think you've made you hopefully kind of getting it. But the answer to this question is, of course, Gregory Goyle. Goyle tells Draco, don't be a pratt. Do him. Telling Draco to kill Harry in the Room of Requirement. Love this scene. Like I said, it is exciting. We've got the humor, we've got the action, we've got the horcruxes, we've got Harry and Draco. We've got the friendship, but also the mortal enemy ship, I guess you could say. So it has got a little bit of everything. It's one of those, a lovely scene. So I absolutely love the scene. Love this quote. It's really a wonderful thing to be included in the film. I really enjoyed watching this, actually, and I enjoy watching it to this day. So that is the answer to question number four. But let's move on to question number five. Next up, we have got a knee slapper. We've got a hilarious quote. I love this quote because it is so funny and it is said by a ridiculous person. This is more of a beach question, a little reprieve before the final two questions and the challenge question, which will be the end of this episode. So this question is very much just a kind of a reprieve looking back at the funny times. So this quote for question number five. Here is the quote for question number five. Fame is a fickle friend. Harry. Yes, this is the quote for question number five. And I love this quote so much. It is so funny, especially in the context of where it comes from. And this is in a book, not in a film. It's just amazing. It is wonderful. I really enjoyed reading this quote and to this day, I absolutely love to come across it in my rereadings. The actor who portrays this character may not say this line, but I think they embody this energy perfectly. And I mean everything from the smile to the classes. Come on, give me a lot of hints here. All these different things are just so funny. I think we might as well just reveal the answer right now. It is gills royal lockhart the heartthrob which weekly five times best Smile award all these wonderful titles. Order of Merlin, third class. Wonderful. He is a Defense Against the Dark Arts of Master, a master of Sorcery, recognized by so many committees and what a wonderful guy. Except not hehehe, he's a fraud, which is a Big MacDougall at the end of the Chamber of Secrets, where this quote comes from. So the context of this quote is harry and Gildroy are doing a detention together. Of course it is Harry. You had the detention and Guildroy requested Harry specifically. That is torture for the detention to address fan mail. And Harry Goddard said, you mustn't suspect a Charize like this every single time you have detention, Harry. You got to be looking out for yourself. So that is something I really enjoyed about this scene. And he's giving Harry like, little bits of I think Gildor thinks it's advice. It is really not, but he just says random things. He's like so fame as a single friend is one of the many things that Guildroy says, while Harry's just in a daze of boredom and hatred for Gildroy and for just the walls as a whole at that point. So that is where this quote comes from and we have some more quotes to get to. So let's move on to question number six. Question number six, we have made it. This is probably the hardest question in the main round, excluding the challenge question because it is definitely not a wellknown well as well known quote as some of the other ones on this list. So here's the quote for question number six. It's a simple one. What's? Basketball? There it is. That's the whole thing. I mean, I'm sorry, that's the entire quote we've got. And this, I think, is both a movie and a book quote, both from the film and from the book. Not 100% sure. I do know it is 100% from the book at least, but it could possibly be from the film as well. And this is definitely a quote that I think is good for the readerwatcher. Reader, let's call it. This is definitely a quote that's good for the reader, mostly because it has a good insight into the wizarding world. And it is a wizard who grew up a wizard who says this a person who grew up in a magical family who says this line saying, let's basketball. So I think it shows that even hugely popular things in the Muggle world are nowhere near permeating the terribly thick skin of the wizarding world. And I think that is a good thing to show, especially, like I said, to readers who may not know just how blurred the boundaries are between magic and, I think, both magic and the real world, I should say. So I think this shows a good contrast between the Muggles and wizards. And I think it's definitely a shame that we can't see more of this because the lines, so to speak, of magic and Muggle worlds are definitely blurred, but less blurred in some places, like transport, for example, many wizards will just operate, like just like 100% of their time is operating or flying on a broomstick, whereas Muggles might take a train. That is two very separate activities. But something like living in a house or saying hi to the neighbors in the morning. That is like a normal human activity and wizards are human. So it's things like this that I really would have liked to see more. And we can make an inference that maybe one thing is present in the wizarding world and some things aren't present in the Muggle world, but I definitely would have like to see more contrast between the two instead of just the wizarding world. But enough of that was the answer to this question. What's basketball? Well, it is in the Philosopher Stone, in the Sorcerer Stone, whatever you want to call it. It is an Oliver Wood quote, which is why I don't think it is terribly popular because he's not a major protagonist. But he says this the first time he and Harry go out to the quidditch pitch and do some practice. So this is definitely in the book when they go into the picture. And Wood throws golf balls for Harry to catch because it's too dark to see the snitch. And when Wood is explaining the rules, harry says there are three hoops. Keeper defends the hoops, try to get the ball into one of the hoops. And Harry says, like basketball. And then Wood goes, what's? Basketball? You know? So that is where this quote comes from. But we have got one more main round quote to go before the challenge question. So let's get right into that question. We have made it question number seven of the day. It was wonderful to be with you for this episode, but we have one more quote to go, one more question, and it is a fun one. It is a lovely question that I love to do, that I love to say. So, I mean, let's just do it because I have a feeling you'll understand the quote pretty soon. So this is definitely more of a dramatized quote that I must perform instead of just recite. So here is the performance of quote number seven.

Participant #1:
There we go. That was a quote. I did it. Yes, I am him. I did it. I am so pleased with that. Thank you for listening to that. Wow. I am pleased that it came out so well. I practiced that day and night, I'm telling you. There we go. That is the quote. I mean, what the you already know what it is. It is Voldemort's. Very end of the series. He kills Harry in the forest. Harry comes back to life. They have a final battle. He does. His octopus thing, they jump off the cliff, everything's great. That is where this quote comes from. A nice short end, a nice tie off to this episode. The love that quote. I think it can also be like transformed into so many things you can say like I want a bananas. That was good. So this is just a fun one. Another meme yet serious quote. So I absolutely love these kinds of quotes. And that is the episode. Thank you very much for joining me today. I very much enjoyed recording. I love these episodes, chrismasters are really one of my favorite kinds. Thank you to your in elbowsaux on Apple podcast reviews for the five stars and for the episode idea. Again, if you want your episode idea on the show, you can follow in Ur an L Bozo's footsteps, leave a nice five star review with your episode idea. You can send me an email. My email is thepotterdiscusion@gmail.com. That is thepotterdiscussion@gmail.com. Or you can send me a DM. IDA on Instagram is at thepotterdiscussion and it is at Potter underscore discuss on Twitter. That is at Potter underscore discuss. Thank you for joining me today. But before we tune up, before we get all jumbled here we have got the Challenge questions. No, I did not forget. Here it is. I have a feeling you'll be able to understand what book it is from and who says it, but the main focus of this is to understand the context and what it really means. So here is the challenge question before we tune out. This is a direct quote. Yes, but then the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. Again, yes, but the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. So there we have it. That is the quote. That is the challenge question. And tune in next week, episode 156 to find out the answer. As remember that happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light. I will see you later.
