Welcome to the Potter discussion.
welcome back to the Potter discussion. This is episode 107, and on today's episode, we will be impersonating some of the Harry Potter. Let's do this.
all right. Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Potter discussion. This is was a 107. The impressions episode. I have been promising this episode for a very long time, and I will admit. I made a last episode. I said that was episode 105. That was actually episode 1 0 6. And I did say that in two episodes, it would be episode 107, and now we'll do the impressions episode.
But when I was listening back and I was listening to the previous episode, I realized that I said a and five for both of them. And I realized that a hundred. Was the last episode and that this one would be 107 and that I promised in a friend's episode. So I figured, Hey, I have an excuse to do it earlier.
Why not? So here you have it. This is the impressions episode. I'm very excited too, because I've compiled some of my favorite impressions that I have. Uh, you know, he, I heard the lines over the years and just like the it's the certain quotes that I've, I've said, you know, right. When they come up in the movie, That I, I just have to say out loud, you know those.
So that is what I will be doing today. I'll be impersonating some of the characters, trying to see how close I can get and play along. Try to record yourself to compare the two clips. Eh, let's see who, who won. I mean, it's not competition, but you know, B it can make you want, if you want. Yeah, this is going to be a very, very fun episode before we get into it.
I will remind you that the two links in the show notes below are still available. The SpeakPipe page link and any Google form, like brand new thing you want to hear or say on the show, you can submit something for an audio. You can submit something for a text is completely up to you. If you, you can also send me an email.
My email is V Potter discussion@gmail.com. That is the part of the discussion@gmail.com. For again, anything you want to hear, say on the. All right. Let's get into today's episode.
I know I promised impressions, but I am going to have to take up your time for just a few minutes for a couple of nouns. Uh, first off happy 20 years, uh, Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone, the social stone, whatever you call it is, uh, uh, celebrating its 20 years anniversary. It is, uh, in November, I think I'm a little late, but 20 years is a very long time.
And there have been lots of interviews with Chris Columbus. I'm sure you can find them. One of those, if that interests you, those has been circulating on the internet. And another piece of news that I think is very exciting is there's a new Harry Potter game show that will be streaming on HBO. Max. I think.
I think it's airing on. I think it's the new year. I haven't done my research too thoroughly, but that is, uh, dropping on the new year. That's if you want to know more, I'm sure you can look up in a Harry Potter game show. There are a lot of our favorite actors, including Helena, Bonham, Carter, Ray fines, and the trio.
Surprisingly Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Mawson, and Rupert Grint are coming back. I never thought in a million years, I would have. But here they are, they are going to back. And that is going to be very exciting again on HBO max, if you want to, you know, check that out. But another thing that's happening is the, well, at least that has to happen is the trailer.
I know a lot of other Harry Potter podcasters have been talking about this, but where is the trailer for fantastic beasts, where to find them three, the secrets of Dumbledore we've been waiting for this thing for so long and they have to. This huge Harry Potter thing with all the actors, they have to promote this trailer on that day on new year's if or if, and when is a drops on that day.
And if there is no trailer, then I don't know what's happening. There might be no trailer. I mean, there might be no movie. I mean like what's, there has to be some trailers soon. I mean, I thought it would, I thought it would be coming up much earlier. So far nothing, we have had nothing so far and I don't, I dunno something fishy is going on and I definitely want that trail.
I'm sure everyone here wants to do it. And we're going to definitely, I'm going to let you know that there is a trailer out, as soon as I hear wind of it and I'll certainly be watching it and I will be reviewing it on the shelf. So that is all the news. That's all the announcements would now for real, let's get into the impression.
okay. The first impression we have up is Snape Snape, Snape. Severus Snape. This guy has a very unique voice and Alan Rickman, I think portrayed the snake in a very, very good. Way, I think he definitely managed to capture, Snapes got a moody, you know, dark Solen kind of attitude, but also somewhat snarky and just kind of joining, you know, it's kind of cruel, but he enjoys that his pain.
So I think I'll read them. Definitely did a very good job in capturing that with Snapes character. And most notably is, I mean, besides the abnormally large nose and. Greasy curtains of hair. And of course the amazing walk that he has with the caterpillars club billing out behind him. We have the. The voice does NAPE.
Oh man. Oh boy. This thing is crazy. It is exactly what you would imagine. A voice like snakes to be. It's exactly what you picture. When you think of Alan Rickman and Snape. This is one of those voices that you hear and you go, oh yeah, I know what that is. So this is a, this is it. This is my official impression.
Why did I agree to this? Why, why am I doing this to myself? Okay. Let's just, let's just do this. I think funnily enough, I'm, I'm giving myself something easy to start with. And that was just saying yes, because as Snape, uh, when I was, uh, watching the order of the. I was not, I was noticing how funny that scene was when, um, umbrage was interviewing Snape and he just going, yes, yes, yes.
Just all the questions and uh, in the end. And he said, obviously, I mean, like, that was, that was one of those, like, you know, snake real, like looking in the eye and, you know, turn you to stone or something like that. Like, he was like you being a umbrage look, death stared. No, he was looking at, you could tell he was, he was gonna do something bad and he kept going.
So that I think is a very, very. And I mean, I'm stalling to less. Let's just do this. Here's my impression of snake.
Oh, oh gosh. That was great. Oh, no worse. I thought. Okay. So I am never doing that again, but that was my impression of her saying yes to umbrage. Ooh. Okay. That's over with, but I think.
class. So then that also deserves a quilt. So here, here it is. This is mine, Mr. Potter, and your celebrity in the voice of Snape, Mr. Porter. Oh, Ooh, Liberty. Okay. I tried to keep it together. I tried so hard to keep it together for that one, but not one. I mean, I mean, come on. That one was pretty, pretty good. I mean, for me, for me, my voice is nothing like snakes, but I tried my hardest.
I tried my hardest and that one, I hope you enjoyed that because you never here. Yeah, you probably are, but you know, I, this is I'm going to be on a, uh, on an impressions cleanse. There's that was, that was woof. Ah, okay. I can't, I can't linger. There is so much more I want to do, so let's get onto the next.
And the next log contender for a, a lovely impression on the pod of discussion is Dumbledore. Dumbledore is the, uh, next USCCA impressions I would like to do mostly because he has such a unique voice. And especially with Richard Harris. It was very kind of like, like whispery and kind of, you know, like, uh, very gravel.
I think that was a very interesting way of speaking with Dumbledore. And then I think I want to attempt a, uh, a, uh, something that Dumbledore said to Harry in that the very end of the philosopher's stone. This is a Richard Harris has Dumbledore and it was love, Aerie, love numbers, telling Harry about how his mother sacrificed herself for Harry leaving a mark that could not be seen, but lose under.
The skin. And then he said, now it's loss area. So that is the quote I'm doing to
love. Love. Okay. Okay. That one, that one was. I do not care what you think that one was so good. I am going to be listening to that one for the rest of my life. That one was, oh man. I thought Dumbledore was speaking. Honestly. I said the Dumbledore is in the room and I said he was talking to the mic. Not me.
That Dumbledore. I hear. No, no it's it was just me. That was just me. Wow. Okay. That was okay. I mean, I'm going to listen back to that one, a ton, because that was actually not bad. And then will just always as much easier to simulate and snakes because it's like, it's much more natural, but which is like a different Tino Tamar in the voice.
I think that one was definitely easier to do, but I mean, like I don't, I don't care because Alan was, Alan was good. Oh, that one was just straight. Good. And I'm moving onto another one, just so I quit while I'm ahead to another Dumbledore quote and what Dumbledore quotes should we do? Of course, of course this was not on the movies.
Why do I think I can pretty much guess what he would say, which Ottomans blubber tweak. Thank you. Now one is that I, I just, I had, I just have to it's it's, it's a given every Dumbledore thing we do. I have to just say nitwit on with opportunities that you, this once at least once, and this will be that once with them, their quotes.
So let's just, let's do this. Mr. Armand tweak you. Oh, he is giving me a speech. So you would have to talk a little louder. I don't, I don't know. I don't know what that one, but I think my, uh, love Harry Love and was a balance a lot better than that one. This is, this is a difficult one because I know Dumbledore in this scene, it was one of the movies, but then.
The speech and this was his, you know, like, I want to say a few words and here they are knitted with, um, the bumper two. Thank you. And then he sits down and the feast appears and hair's like, oh my gosh. Oh my God. You know, you know that scene. So it was on the movies. Um, but he, I think he said something different, not, uh, what he, not on bumper tweak.
Thank you. I'm going to show you that a ton. Um, so that's, uh, window says it's only the books done. That will be, so it is much more difficult, uh, because he is talking loudly and they will, they'll never, dog's loudly. Uh, well, at least Richard Harris doesn't ever talk. Um, he, he never talks loudly, but Michael Gammon would scream at you.
That's just, that's just kind of what I'm guessing from the ferocity. Uh, the, the difference in ferocity from these different characters. Um, but that is my Richard Harris Dumbledore and let's move on because there are some other very exciting ones that I want you to hear.
and next up we have the one that's charged at all. The one impression I did not, I said I have to do an impressions episode after this and that is serious. Sirius black and the battle of the order of the Phoenix. His very, very funny sound, uh, that I think it has to be the first, just, just, just in honor, in honor, of Gary Oldman in honor of, um, the, the inspiration for this episode, we have to do the battle of the order of the Phoenix depression, because that is just, that is just great.
So here it is. I know I did do it in the a couple of hours ago. This is the, this, this, this is the official impression that they will be playing at the best sound award. Uh, you know, so this is, this is my impression of serious, so let's, let's, let's do this. Ah, there you go. Once now, that's all I need.
That's what, that's all you need. One sound and that is it. That is my serious impression. There it is. The bag, all I needed was one, one take of that and I am done that. Is it all right? All right. That is it. That is, that is my serious. And I feel like, I mean, that's, that's my serious sound. You have to do one.
We have to do a lot. What serious line could we possibly do? Oh, no, I've just had a thought. I can't go back. Oh gosh. Okay. I have the perfect quote that is perfect for you. If not perfect for me in the slightest. And that is the, I did my waiting 12 years of it as goodbye. Okay. That is the serious. When he, when they were about to kill Peter pedigree in the prisoner basket ban and the shrieking shack.
And I'm seriously like all come on, remiss not to kill him. And then Ray misses like, wait, and she's just like I did. And I waited until he was a bed. So that is a quote. I know. Oh no. Okay. Let's get, let's get this over with.
I did my washing 12 days.
Oh man. I mean, okay. I had to watch that scene a lot. That's what good. Like 10 minutes, just to get that one take, I hope you enjoy that. I hope you enjoy that. That's actually took a surprising amount of work and that was a very difficult to guide, but I think, I think we got it pretty, pretty good. And now, or moving on to another, another quote, some more people to quote, I very excited to let's do this.
Uh,
And now we have one that I think is a very, very recognizable and characteristically distinguished quote, and kind of character in general, I guess. And that is Draco Malfoy. We did talk about Draco previously, but today we will be doing the official impression of him. And there are two lines that I think.
Uh, PR fit this, you know, the requirements of being well-known and, you know, very, very matching of the character. And that is his, his potash and the, my father right here about this. So those are the two quotes we will be doing. And yeah, I mean, like for this one, I think it's not going to be that hard because Draco's voice.
Well, I guess Tom Felton's voice is more is on the more, I guess you can call it, you know, more real world. The voices of people like Dumbledore, no one talks, I mean, Richard Harris and maybe his brother, those are the two people that talk like we S and, and of course, and of course, Grendel, bald grit, Voldemort, and Richard Harris.
They are, they are the whispers of, of, of the world. And those are like, But Tom, uh, Tom slash Draco really have, uh, a considerably more human voice, a voice you would hear just down the street, you know, on the road. So I think that makes it much easier to kind of imagine and simulate in your own words, which I think is going to help me a lot in this suppression.
But, um, besides the sides of that, I also think that Drigo says more common things, you know, no one says no one is saying that I'll love Harriet love, but like Potter, like a name. You know, I'm a Potter, you're a Potter. And then also my father will hear about this. I think these are definitely. You know, phrases that are said much more often more commonly than the previous ones, just because they don't have, you know, pertain to anything magical.
And they don't, you know, purely exist in the magical world to describe something in it, a character, a theme, a place even. The spell or a potion that could possibly exist in the real world. But I think Draco's voice is very, very similar to ones you might even hear on your every day, which definitely helps this impression in our thrive and just sound better, which I think is going to help me, help me most of all, because I, and needing a break and I needed a break from this for what, 20 minutes.
And I'm already needing something. So yeah, let's just, let's. So I think we're going to start with the, with the potash D O T T a H Potter. Let's okay. Okay.
All right. That one, maybe, maybe my best one. Maybe my best one. I don't know because that, again, again, no drinker quotes are very similar to ones you would hear on the every day. And maybe that maybe that might not be one. They hear every day, but even if you're watching the movies and you hear someone talking and so you're a drink or talk, it's not like, you know, they're completely different things like with having.
No one is the size of Haggard. You know, it's, it's the, uh, the, the average person is not, you know, doesn't have hands that are the sizes of, of, of trashcan lids. That's just not something that you see. And, um, um, there are people with, I mean, like very, very large hands. That's not the point, but Hagrid is just an not have normally large human being.
And it's the same with people. Like, again, like Dumbledore, they were just very, you know, very generic. At least, well, at least Richard heritage or generic again, because Michael, but I mean like the guy we have to God to do a difference, a different episode. I mean, maybe we already have, but there is a, there's a very distinct difference between Richard Harrison.
Oh, we did. I remember, I know we did do a difference. Um, but still again. Yeah, the, the, the voices, I think are very much decided by the, of course the actor, but also the, the, the actions of the character and the, you know, the, the, their stature in the story, because not every, not every character can have this real strong voice.
Sometimes I have to kind of back off and be quiet and just kind of, you know, not, not really exist because their character is not a huge. You know, deal in some of the story, but there are some characters that have to be strong, or they have to be saying these things with strength. And I think Draco is one of those people.
And it's not that he has the strength to say it. I think it's more that he has to say it with strength or people will see, or at least Draco things that other people will see himself. As weak. And then that, of course, circles back to all the Drake goes insecurities and family issues and all of that, we are not, we will not get into that, but I think that also very much connected to the way Jerico says things that hopefully I'll go with.
I'll keep that in mind. As we go into this next impression and of Draco, this is my father will hear about this. He says this, I mean, A ton. And this, this is just one of those quotes that I always imagined when he said that he says in the prisoner basket, man, when moody transfigured into a ferret and then bounces up and down against a stone.
I mean, like that's, that's much more cruel than I think Draco deserves my, that is the quote that I'll be saying. And I mean, let's, let's get into this. My father was here. Okay. So in the grand scheme of things, I think that was pretty good. I think that I did semi at least, okay. At least at least a semi-good job, because that again is a very difficult impression to do.
Even, those are very normal. But still, I think looking over everything, I will never sound exactly like those characters, but I think, I think that's about the closest that I can get. That's just about where I can be, because I mean, my father wrote. Is something that is said by Jericho. Oh, a lot, because he wants his father to hear about this, but I think it was with no Drigo.
Another challenge is recognizing the situation. And without the context, it is very difficult to tell, uh, how to say the things that Draco is saying in that moment. But despite that fact, I think that that quote is said with a very similar, uh, kind of tamarind stuff with the very similar, um, meaning in mind that is when something even like, even something.
Bad that happens to him. Draco has to say something he has to speak up for himself and he has to, you know, yes. To yes, to be strong and has to tell his dad, he has to a difference. At least that's what he thinks, but that's a whole different issue, but that is it. That is the Draco quotes. And let's move on.
All right. So this next person that I will be impersonating is a very notable character and someone who has a lot of. To their name that is Voldemort Al I was gonna say, bowel does Voldemort Voldemort period of Tom riddle. Tom riddle slash Voldemort has a very, he's a, he's a character. He is just an absolute character.
He has so many things to say so many, uh, anger spells to fire off so many Avantica Dov, Aras to. Scream and whip at someone. And the mean the aquatic is coming. That is last. Um, but, but I want to say Harry Potter come to die. And that is what he says when Harry come, uh, goes into the forest and, you know, just to sacrifice himself for his friends and, you know, it's a whole happy ending and they're also, you know, yay.
Um, so that is what I will be doing. So let's, let's do that code first and then we can do the even I'm sorry. That was the Avaya Dobra. So we have the hair product come to die right now. Harry Potter come to die. Okay, so it's over, it's over. Um, but I think with that one, the key was to get, you know, kind of like the, the whispering just right, because he's, uh, uh, he is one of the whispers of Harry Potter.
Um, okay. Episode idea, the whispers of everybody. And I put that in the book, but, uh, being a whisper of Harry Potter, I think he is a very kind of loud whisper, you know, he's, he's one of those people that when he, when he talks, there's just the room gets some. And everyone stops talking. And I think that is one of the things that makes well, the warrant such a, um, such a compelling character and such an effective leader because he just has a commanding presence and, you know, whispering having, it's just a show of his power that he doesn't have to talk loud for people to listen to him.
He just has to say what he needs to, and it will be done. And Harry Potter comes to die. Is a perfect example of bad because she doesn't need to say anything. Kids need to shout. He doesn't need to do anything like that. All he has to do is whisper. So, uh, so that is what I'm add is the Voldemort quote, number one, but now we're moving on to Voldemort number two.
And then as you've Vodicka dollar, this one I've been coding for years. I have been a person that he will the Mort saying a Vodicka diver for a very long time. So I'm excited to do this one finally on air. Uh, so I'm gonna, I'm gonna back off with life for this one. I'm hoping my, uh, my, my neighbors won't be get mad.
So let's, let's do the Avantica Dobra
okay. All right. Maybe I will have to sacrifice my, my sore throat for that one, but okay. Okay. For that one, I think the wind up it really what makes or breaks that impression? Because the. Ooh, you know, that one, I think is a very, very, uh, you know, kind of notable and recognizable, uh, impression. And I think it, I think I executed it with valor and with the impersonation power.
Oh, that rhymed. Um, but. I am going to give myself, uh, let's say seven out of 10 because you know, maybe the impression itself, you know, it wasn't the best, whatever, but I think, I least, I at least at least the windup, I think in my opinion was pretty, pretty good. And I'm going to give myself that one just because I am very, very happy with yes, the windup and also my, my commitment for that one.
I mean, Just threw myself in there and I think it will really pay it off because that was a, that was a really, really good impression. And as, um, as the young folk would say that was fire. Uh I'm so cool. Um, but that, yeah, I totally want, I think that is that, is it for Voldemort? I'm happy with that. I'm going to leave it be I'm going to quit while I am ahead.
Okay. So I, I know I say I would call on my head, but there are two impressions that I want to, I want to do. And that is for Matt. I moody. And for Dolores Umbridge, they have two different aligns that I think I want to say just for the fun of it, because they are two very well done lines and two very characteristically unique lines.
And that is for moody when he says, and, and is there a better place to put your gum than the underside of your desk, Mr. Finnegan? And then he says, and then, um, Seamus says, ah, this something very mean. And then, um, uh, professor moody throws his shock across the classroom and he says, and here we're Claus grassroots.
So that I think is one that I want to do. Um, and also for umbrage, I want to do the, like the, her, her, it sounded like my cat. No, no, like the, you know, you're not, you know, the one, you know, the one. So I think we're going to start with the moody and then go into the Embridge and then that will be the first episode.
So let's, let's do the moody. And is there a better place beside your desk? Whatever. I actually really liked this one because it's the best of both worlds. I think it displays Marty crutch, Jr's character and Moody's character and kind of as a one chord because Brita cracks is a very intense person. He wants to serve all the mark.
He wants to defeat all of the bad guys, all of, all of the good people. And he also does a really good job of doing a moody line because that is. Something moody would say trying to scare his students straight. So that is a very, very good moody quote that I think should be remembered. But with no time to lose a, we should move on to the umbrage quote.
Let's do that right now.
I only love it. That one you get, it sounds like it sounds one of my cats. I have two little kitties and one of them sounds exactly like that. I mean, that is that, that is that's hilarious. And my voice will never go that high, but I'm rich has a very, very funny, um, you know, Squeak almost. And that's a very, another similar to moody.
That's very similar to her character because she's just so sweet and innocent on the outside, but she is like rotten on the inside. And that is, uh, basically, yeah, that, that, that basically describes I'm rich. And I think, I think that's it. I think that was episode. I ha. You enjoy this, you better save this in your, you better make a, make a record and then put this in your closet and then never, ever, ever sell it.
I don't know. You could probably sell it for like a million bucks just because it's the best episode you've ever heard, but you will be able to keep this forever because I'm never doing this again. Never. I'm never doing this. But, yeah, I mean, I mean, all jokes aside, this was very fun. And maybe in the future, I would do this again.
Um, I don't know. So let's just close this out it out so I can get a move on and went out. I went out for breakfast this morning, so to a diner near me, of course delicious. And yeah, I got back a little late. I started recording at like 10:00 PM. In the morning, which might sound like phrase yearly to some people, but I just start recording like nine 30.
It's crazy. Right now. It's 1130. Oh my gosh. I got get going. So I have to, of course I have to edit this, but all the fun, magical twists you hear. So I hope you, uh, I hope you enjoy listening to these episodes because it certainly takes up a lot of my day to make them, but I. I absolutely love it. So that is this episode.
