In this episode, we discussed the major developments of 2025 and made some predictions of what's to come next year. Enjoy!

Topics/Summary:

·      1:20 The most important part of this year has been the TV show. We got announcements, casting, and updates on filming that showed us that this thing is underway! There were little details of course, like Hogwarts Legacy, but those things couldn’t hold a candle to the TV show. The leaked photos were the most exciting part of the announcements this year because they were our first true looks at the new world.

·      8:27 Casting announcements made this even more exciting. Learning who would be playing the characters that have defined a generation was super cool, and it isn’t even over yet.

·      17:36 Filming will wrap this year. I’m not too worried about this one coming true because the filmmakers said that they hoped for a late 2026 to early 2027 release date. With promotions starting a few months before that, and production wrapping a few months before that, we are absolutely going to see the end of filming for season one.

·       22:38 Season two is going to begin churning. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if some minor casting and filming has already taken place for season two. The kids are growing up already, and we don’t want a huge gap between seasons.

·      25:33 We’re going to get some build up and huge casting. Voldemort? They are keeping his identity under wraps very well, and though it’s infuriating, it’s effective. Whether it’s with a trailer or some official release, we are going to see the last few people who make up this new universe.

Without further ado, let's get into today's episode.

The most important part of this year has been the TV show

SPEAKER_00

So, by far, in my opinion, the most important part of this year has been the TV show. I mean, there's no there's no competition, of course. We had announcements here and there of, you know, things happening. But the most impactful, I think, was is without a doubt, uh, the TV show. That is really rocking the fandom right now. We're really building up to this. You know, this is this is the biggest release since the film, since the books. You know, this is another piece of core content uh that is that is currently being created, and millions upon millions of pounds slash dollars are being spent on it. Uh, and this is a really exciting project that is going to mean a lot for the fandom. So it is no there's no question, I think, that this is the most uh meaningful part of of our I mean this this show for sure. Uh and I mean looking at the like, you know, searching up like I don't search for news, but that is one thing that I search for news for. You know, when I'm writing these these episodes, the very, very first thing I do is I look at the latest updates. So it's if that that's if anything, that just goes to show that this really means something. You know, this is not a little thing that's getting released. Like, for like at least for me, I'm not a big gamer. So when, you know, of course, there's a we assume there's a second Hogwarts Legacy game in the works, that's fact very exciting, and I'm looking forward to that. But I didn't play the first one, I'm not gonna play the second one, so I don't really follow that. I can appreciate it, of course I can. But the TV show just means more. It it's part of the story, you know. Hogwarts Legacy is just a you know, it's it's like it's like a little detail, you know, it's a fun detail for the fandom. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that that there is a the a game that is that high quality out for fans who can benefit from that. But, you know, it's just not the core piece of the puzzle that we are getting with the TV show. So I think that's very important to note here. But the thing that was, in my opinion, was the most exciting about this whole TV show situation this year was the photos, was the leaks, and that was, I mean, some of my favorite episodes were when we got, you know, like the behind the scenes of like the Dursleys, or we got, you know, uh a scene being shot or Dumbledore, you know, Flamel, like these little things that could really uh point to something big. Those were really exciting to really analyze because it was our first look at this new, you know, this this new series. And of course, we got you know the official release photos, like of we got one of Hagrid, we got we saw Dominic McLaughlin as as Harry, so we get those, you know, little snippets. And of course, if they had their way, we wouldn't be able to see anything. You know, the paparazzi would would never get uh get a good photo. That's that's how they would want it. And of course, their schedule is very secretive. Uh, I was reading an article a few weeks ago about how they were changing the names of their set, you know, every every few days, I think, and they would have like like code names, and you're like, you couldn't really like it's very, very strict. So I totally get that. Which, if anything, makes these like leaks even more exciting because we can see these things that and I like it's not like a it's not like malicious. We're not like, oh, I want to ruin the show, I want to see these things before they come out. It's if anything, building excitement, and truth be told, I wouldn't be surprised if you know some of these things are on purpose. You know, of course, of course, it's very secret, it's all under wraps, but they are being very good. You know, this this this is very good marketing for for the TV show is you know, r having these, you know, fake, you know, uh uh leaks that that we're seeing. And of course, none of them are fake because they are all real, unless they are fake, I don't know. But they really add that that like a very um a layer of excitement to this because we are seeing this world that's kind of unfolding in front of our eyes, and we know it's happening, but we don't really know. And that was the same for even I can't even remember if it was this year, it was just such a long time ago, the photos of the Great Hall that were that were released. Of course, the Great Hall, I think that they're building a new one, that's that's the point. And so they're building a new Great Hall. So we got to see photos of that that were being constructed, and it was pretty similar to the one that we already have. So we were thinking, oh, what could that mean? You know, it's all those little things, it's the little details that kind of come together that can tell us something. And it's it doesn't take a whole, you know, we don't have to get a whole, you know, a whole portfolio of photos in front of our faces to really understand what they're going for. It's those little details that add up that can really weave the picture of what they're trying or of what the filmmakers are trying to do. And the Great Hall is a great example of that because the photos that we saw were accurate, you know, they were true to the book, and from those photos we could kind of glean that this isn't gonna be a complete, you know, turnover of the story. And then especially getting photos of the Dursleys. If anything, I think those were the best photos that that we got. I mean, the ones on Demo though were also pretty cool, but I think the photos of the Dursleys were probably the best, in my opinion, because first of all, they were they were the clearest. I mean, we got like clear shots of them, but they were also the most accurate, they were the truest to the books, not the films, they were the truest to, or most true, to the books. And that is really exciting. Petunia uh was absolute petunia, and Dudley was absolutely deadly. So those, you know, those those things really make a difference. And especially seeing like Vernon, you know, it it really uh I think another part of this is I was worried, you know, I was really worried that this whole thing would look extremely different, you know, that we would uh and I mean I guess not different because of course I hope it looks different. You know, I I would be it would be a shame if it's all the same. But what I would hope, I I was afraid that the feel would be wrong. I would be like, oh like I I see, you know, this is Hogwarts, and I see that the you know, I see that there are like you know, the house tables are in the great hall and the spiral staircasing and whatever, but like it doesn't just it doesn't sit right. That's that's what I was worried about. And I think there's still a potential for that, absolutely. I think there are some iconic things that if they don't nail down, it will be a little rocky. But the feel is there, the baseline is definitely there. Seeing you know, Dumbledore and the Jerseys and these these characters that mean so much, seeing them and really knowing who they are. You know, we see them and we think, okay, that's definitely them, you know, and knowing that it is true to the books, that it is true to the story, that really means a lot. And it it helps us see the bigger picture because what I don't want is to be like, oh, like it was it was better the first time. That's what I don't want to think. I want to think, oh, this is different, but this is also really good. You know, I think part of this is showing us that the story is not confined to one strain. You know, it is so much bigger, the story is so much bigger than even the books at this point. So that's what I really want to get at it, and that's what the photos have really uh going to show us. So that this by far the biggest event of the year uh is going it was was the TV show, and if you know, a little sneak peek of predictions, I think it's definitely gonna be the biggest event for next year, too. Uh, but that is a good place to begin. So uh let's move on.

Casting announcements made this even more exciting

SPEAKER_00

But it was the casting announcements that really made us excited. Those were the individual announcements that were extremely exciting. So let's just go through a few of those. I think the most important that that we got. So, of course, Dominic McLaughlin, Alistair Stout, and Arabella Stanton uh were cast as the trio. That that was the big announcement, of course, uh that this process was extensive, and they said they received like like 30,000 applications on the crazy like that. And it makes sense. I mean, gosh, if I fit the bill here, I would absolutely apply too, because why not? They have such a cruel opportunity. Of course, it's it's huge change their lives, but it is a really, really cool opportunity. So good for them. Uh that I think it's it's that was maybe the most important part of this because it really put a face uh onto the the the trio. And if you ask me, this was the group that had to be the most consistent. Uh like it it would be it would be strange if they come like suddenly looked totally different. I think because in the in the books, of course, they're pretty look a certain way. And I'm not saying that other characters don't look a certain way. I just think it would be hard to see them as you know the characters that they are if the trio looked totally different. Of course, it'd not look exactly the same. That would be, you know, ridiculous. But looking at them, you can you can kinda tell, you know, you can kind of tell who they're playing. Uh, you know, I'm glad Alex Stouts, you know, has red hair and, you know, everybody else that has, you know, like that, you know, uh uh perfect, you know, grin that I I would imagine Hermione would have. And of course, uh Down Nick would laugh. And honestly, his photo, like he himself does not look exactly like Harry, but it is, I mean, uncanny looking at the uh, you know, him and his Cosman makeup, the uh official release photo that that we saw. That was I mean, honestly, he just looked like like uh Daniel Radcliffe at that point. So it's it was it was pretty funny. So they are definitely in the running here for a great uh production. I think they had they are set up very well. They of course have a great team, and they definitely have what it takes. At least I'm hoping they do, seeing as they pass the audition. Uh so it's it's a it's an interesting situation here. It's a very interesting situation now that we have the faces to these characters, but we just have to see where it will take up. I'm gonna be judging them harshly. I'm sorry to say, but there there's gonna be no sugarcoating of uh the first episodes of even the trailer when it comes out. So there is definitely gonna be a lot of critique when it comes to them. But I'm hoping it would all from a place of kindness. I I have I have no malintent. I hope we will just, you know, get along fine. That's my statement for the court. So, in terms of other casting announcements, in my opinion, there were five, I'd say five are really important ones, and that was John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTear as McGonagal, Papa S do as Snape, Nick Frost as Haggard, and Lox Pratt as Nalfoy. I think those were definitely the most important that that we got, especially Papa S Yadu as Snape. I think I I think I mentioned I was watching a TV show with him in it around the time that that was announced, and I remember I remember really liking him. I mean his his acting is really good, and especially because he played such a a much more kind of flippant character on the show that I happen to be watching, and when that announcement was made, I was like, that that name sounds really. I should like to look at the castle sound. I was like, oh my gosh, it it's him. And I am this is a situation where it's definitely not Snape. Like the character he was playing on the show that I happened to be watching was absolutely not Snape. I this there's no anonymity here. I was watching uh the The Lazarus project on Netflix and he played the main character. It's a while ago, I don't remember exactly his what his name was, but he was, you know, much more joyful, much more, you know, whatever, but not to spoil it, but the story gets a little, you know, more intense and he becomes a little more, you know, sullen and a a little more uh you know, you know, gray. And that those were the moments where I was like I was like, oh man, like this is a good snake. And especially um we Papa, he is such a he has such a an honesty about him, and especially watching some of his I think he's he's like a he's also does Shakespeare uh on the stage. Watching those, it's so genuine, and you can you can really see what he's trying to say. You know, he doesn't have to use his words to tell you how he feels, and that is so important, especially for Snape, because Snape goes through a lot, and of course, I mean, could he really do better than Alan Rickman? I don't know. I think Alan Rickman had a very specific interpretation that came across super well. But we will see how, and I mean, I another good point to make here is looking at the photos at the Dursleys, we see that there are definitely more uh consistencies with the book. Snape in the film was a little different than described. He was a little older, a little more, you know, sullen. But Snape in the books is is pretty young, you know, he has he's he's a bit of a different person. So I would be interested to see if uh you know if Poppy S doo can kind of embody that differently than Alan Rickman. I think there would be definitely some there there is a case to make for that being a better, I shudder to say, uh interpretation of that. Of course, could he beat the there's there's no beating versus you know losing. Uh the there is no winner when it comes to interpretation here, but I think uh I hope that Public SUD can really bring an uh an interesting side of this because he is such a good actor, it is really gonna be a thrill to see him. And of course, uh John Lolithgow as as Dumbledore, he is, he's American, but he has played some very famous British characters. He definitely has that feel. But especially thinking of him in The Crown, he played uh Winston Churchill in the Crown, he was he was very like very intense. You know, he's very you know, his he was very, you know, he hunched over, he was running around, running the country, eating his oatmeal. Like he was very, you know, he was a very uh intense person. So I'm hoping that's not gonna translate uh into, of course, I hope that's not the interpretation that he decides for for Dumbledore, because Dumbledore is absolutely not that. Michael Gambin is definitely intense. Like he definitely has a bit of a sharper edge to do to the character than I think is in the books, but but still, he's not he still has that that that kindness that about him, you know, he still has that um you know in him that we can we can really see, you know, he still has that twinkle in his eye. And of course, you know, Churchill did have the Churchill does have that too, but it's less of a it's more of like a star and more of like, you know, a gleaming, you know, metal bar kind of twinkle, you know. I I hope that makes sense. He was he was very industrial in the crown, and I'm hoping that uh Lithgow goes for you know something different. Something different. And of course I'm not saying that that's like his that's the only way he can act. I'm just saying I if I were him, I would choose something different, uh, which I think he knows that as well. So I'm definitely hoping for that. So there's great potential there. It's great potential. He is such a breath, I think he could really pull something really, really cool off. So I'm looking forward to that. And then we aren't even mentioning these are individuals, but how are they gonna interact? That was another one of the big exciting things that we were kind of getting this year about these announcements is okay, the we have one person, you know, person A is playing this person, person B is playing that person, but how are they going to actually mix on stage? You know, this is this is a big stage. It's worth noting. This is a very big stage, so they have to fill it, they have to absolutely take up this space. And it is in those individual scenes, it's in the scenes where we know it's just two people talking, you know, the flashbacks, these flashbacks are going to be juicy. We saw just how meant how much flashbacks meant in the Deathly Hollows when Harry took Snape's memories after Snape was killed and went into the Penn safe. You know, he saw Snape's life and you know Lily and James and how his parents kind of grew up together from Snape's perspective. Those were some of the most important scenes of the of the entire story. So imagine if we have those, you know, more often, more sprinkled in. And of course, it it might be a little less impactful if you have them a ton, but it still means the same, you know. So imagine having those with the quality of of acting that we have, you know, been been seeing, and they've they've been slowly revealed over time. Understanding more and seeing this picture kind of take take shape has been really, really inspiring, especially as these big names have been have been coming out and as um we have had the chance to really do some research and see their past work and really gain a good perspective on where they are heading for their characters. So there's a good uh a good opportunity here. There's there are some great openings for some fantastic acting. And I am not going to be surprised at all if there are some awards, you know, going out here. I I forget what the TV show awards are, but is it an Emmy? I think it's an Emmy. Uh I am hopeful, I am hopeful that there's gonna be some really high quality acting here. Uh so good for them. Good luck. I'm sure they're already going. Uh, and let's move on.

Filming will wrap this year

SPEAKER_00

So that all happens, but now let's talk a little bit about what's ahead. So my very first prediction is, you know, it's a pretty conservative one, and I think we can we can expect this. Filming is going to wrap. I'm not not very uh um I'm confident that this is going to happen. I am not worried that filming is is going to continue. They said a release date was late 2026 to early 2027. I believe it. That's about a year. I think they can do it. So that means that promotion is going to start a few months before that. Which means uh filming has to wrap a few months before that. That is about pretty soon. That's a good way of putting that. So I would not even be surprised if filming raps sometime in April, sometime April, May, June, around there. I think that's a that's a pretty reasonable uh assumption. Of course, I don't know what their schedule is. Maybe they're filming things for season two as well. Uh so maybe go a little longer, maybe it'll be a little shorter, but I am confident that filming is going to wrap. And that is because of that release date. So far, we have seen nothing. Nothing official. Besides, you know, a few photos here and there. We have not had any trailers, any, you know, little sneak peeks, anything like that. So I am I am hopeful that we're gonna get some of that before the year is done. If we don't get any promo material before 2027, uh, that's a bad sign. I think that that means that production is is delayed and that they're not gonna uh hold that release date. So, but with the information that we have, currently I am very confident that filming is going to be done. I mean, a few months ago they were doing film, you know, scenes with the Dursley, scenes with Dumbledore. They've got it the they've gotta have finished for that by now. I mean, come on. They've gotta I mean they only have what, eight hours to film? I mean, that's a lot, don't get me wrong, that's you know, that's a lot. But I think actually I think they could do it. I think they could actually do it. I mean, if they were filming things with Hogwarts Express, you know, and now they've moved so far along. And those scenes with like the um like at Hogwarts don't take that long. It's like the Quidditch that's gonna take a long time to make, and then especially going through the trapdoor, that's also gonna be uh that's definitely gonna be uh an adventure. But or maybe they're doing a ton of flashback things, you know, maybe, or and and we're gonna have, you know, a uh a lot of that. So anyway, there is there are we we can hope for a lot. We can definitely hope for a lot, but with the current information that we have, with the release date that was provided to us, we can safely assume that we are going to have a done filming, that we're filming is going to completely finish for season one, at least season one, maybe they keep going for season two, you never know. But 2026 will be the end of season one somehow. And that just means that nothing but good things are ahead. So trailers and and all of that, those are the new name of the game. That's now what we're looking for. Uh and it's also cool to think that we we don't even have all the details, you know. This still, they have kept a lot of things under wraps. So maybe we're gonna learn some things out of these trailers. But the truth is, I you know, what I really want to do, besides like you know, seeing it, of course, I want to see this. I want to hear it. I want to hear what the wizarding world sounds like to them. I want to hear this music, you know. I want I I'm very curious to know who is scoring this TV show. Uh that's that's gonna be a very interesting uh thing. I hope it's not John Williams. I think he he definitely wouldn't take on this project. Uh I mean I of course I hope it is, but I what I mean is I don't think he would. This is a very long thing. He's already had his time. Um so that's gonna be very cool. But also, like, how is magic gonna sound? How how are the spells gonna sound? And how do these characters talk? You know, what's the what is what is what does the castle sound like? How does the castle feel? I guess is what I'm really asking. And how it looks is a part of that, but how it sounds is a big, big part of really the feel of the castle, you know? I think you can you can feel it better if you are, you know, if if you cover your ears and just look at it, it's harder to really understand. The castle than if you just close covered your eyes and kind of like stood in it for just a second, you know. That's maybe a harder, a harder analogy to understand, but I think that's really what I'm going for. Is that what how it sounds is very indicative of kind of like the feel, you know, the vibe. And I it would be too bad if the sound was a little kind of weird, because then we wouldn't really, you know, have that same Hogwarts feel, which is, in my opinion, even more important for the TV show than than in the films. So that is my first prediction, and I am confident about it that we are going to have a wrapped filming for season one in 2026. Alright, let's move

Season two is going to begin churning

SPEAKER_00

on. In between all of this for season one, I think it's worth mentioning that I also predict that things for season two are also gonna start. I wouldn't be surprised if amidst the promo, amidst, you know, the the buzz for season one, we are also going to begin hearing whispers for season two, whether that's scenes already being filmed or new casting, you know, people like Lockhart who are um who are, you know, already, you know, who are who are made for the second film or second book. Uh, but what's tipping me off is we already have some of that. You know, like Lucius Malfoy was cast, you know, he was he was already cast, but we don't see him until the Tamper of Seagir. So, you know, what's the deal there? Are they just casting early? That's you know, very it's very proactive of them. I'm glad they're thinking ahead. Or are they filming scenes already for season two? Or are they putting Lucius into the first season? You never know. I truth I honestly hope not, because I don't want to force the characters in. But if they're already doing things for season two, at least to some degree, I think it's safe to assume that they're gonna start filming, maybe, or at the very least, uh begin putting the gears in motion, or keep turning the gears. The gears are ha the gears are already in motion for sure. So they are gonna start doing something. Something is going to happen for short with season two. I think I'm definitely not uh definitely not gonna worry about that because their their production schedule is very tight. And this was true with the films as well. The filmmakers wanted to make sure that they kept uh they kept chugging because the kids grow up, you know, the kids grow up pretty pretty quick, so they want to make sure that the whole thing is pretty much done. Uh, you know, by the time they're like 14, that's kind of like the line between like kid and adult, I guess. So that's well, I mean in the in the story, not in real life. I think they they have a few more years of of kidness left, of of childhood left, but I think by around the gobblet of fire or the phoenix, that's really where they be, you know, become adults in the story. So they really have to, you know, make sure they aren't, you know, lumbering, lumbering adults by the time they're in, you know, the prisoner of asking. So they're definitely gonna make sure their production schedule is tight. Uh, they they definitely did that. And I mean you could see it, of course, in the films, but I mean, you want some of it because they aren't frozen in time, so it's definitely good to see that they're changing. You know, they are people, that's probably healthy. Uh, but you know, again, we we don't want a huge gap between the first and second, or the second and third, or the third and fourth. I think after the fourth, it's gonna be pretty similar, but there's definitely gonna be, uh we definitely should should see some similarities. You know, it's they they should be stitched together. You know, going from seasons, uh going in between seasons should not be this like jarring, like, oh my gosh, what the heck? Who are these people? So I think that's important to know. So season two is definitely in the pipeline, and next year we will absolutely see some good parts of it. Alright, let's move on.

We’re going to get some build up and huge casting

SPEAKER_00

I also want to quickly mention we're gonna get some build-up. We're gonna get some serious build-up. And honestly, I don't even know if this counts as a prediction because it's obviously gonna happen. Uh, I am looking forward to some really, really awesome build-up, especially around like September 1st. Imagine that. I mean, so that's the back to Hogwarts Day, and even even today, even you know, without the buzz of the TV show, you know, a crowd of people gathers and they have your voiceover, and you know, they they they do all these fun things. It's super cool. It's outside they it's awesome, they do it every year. But imagine what WB is going to do on September 1st. You know, what if they release the first trailer, you know, or or they, you know, they release the first, you know, interviews or you know, something like they they really you tie that in. I think that would be a really interesting way of kind of tying the release into the fandom. You know, we're the tell, you know, they they're telling us, you know, we're we're all in this together. So to release it on a day like that would be would be super cool. Or even like Harry's birthday, or like on the you know, uh anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, they put some you know graphic of Hogwarts up, like something like that. Something that's like, oh, that's you know, very that's super cool. That causes excitement, like, oh my gosh, that's Hogwarts. Wait a minute, and that's the Hogwarts that they're going with. I I really want to have those moments on the days that it, you know, that really matters. Not like, you know, August 12th. Like some something like I'm not saying that's unimportant, of course, every day is important. But something that's significant for the fandom, I think, would be particularly impactful. So that's important to note. But my last prediction, I just wanna, I really want to get to this. My last prediction is we are absolutely going to learn who Voldemort is. One way or another, we are gonna get those last castings that have been, you know, slowly trickling in. You know, the very important ones that, of course, of course, they already have Voldemort, but he is uh well, well hidden. So we are absolutely going to finally learn who the heck is Voldemort, and that is for certain. Now, I'm not saying they're gonna officially announce it, you know, in a formal manner, but it's gonna be in a trailer somewhere. It's gonna be somewhere, and maybe we just hear a voice, or we just hear we see a hand, or we see something, and we have to guess. Like, I would be a little mad at that, because honestly, I feel like we're we're we're already guessing, but still that would be exciting. It would be exciting to know that he is cast, but they are just dangling him over our heads. And I think I am I don't think we can be too mad at that because it's really tantalizing. Like, I have to see who it is, you know. So it's it's really working, this whole thing with with with with Voldemort, but of course, we are absolutely gonna see who it is in this uh this this year. So without without a doubt, this is gonna be a very exciting year. One of one of the more exciting we've had in the last few decades. Finally, some new stuff is hitting uh is is is hitting the mainstream. We are we're going to get a a blast of new content, and the the final gaps are slowly gonna come together to form this bigger picture. So, with the first trailers, the first promos, the next big things, you know, the next latest news that comes out. Uh we are our our ears, our eyes are open. We are ready to intercept whatever might come our way. It is going to be a great year. And thank you for sticking around this whole year, whether this is your first episode or whether this is your 314th episode. I want to thank you all for an amazing year. It was really great. We had some really cool things, some really great episodes. We started some new seasons, and next year it is gonna be even better. So, thank you again. Here is to the next year of podcasting. Good luck to us all. Have a wonderful new year, a very happy holidays. And as always, remember that happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light. See you next year.
