In this trilogy, Brian talks about types of cemeteries that you might find when looking for a final resting place for a loved one. In this podcast, Brian talks about how a cemetery is designated a memorial park versus a traditional cemetery. He talks about the perpetual care and types of headstone or markers allowed in the different types of cemeteries.

Memorial parks are a newer type of cemetery introduced about 75 years ago. They are parks and gardens where memorials (instead of tombstones) are placed level with the ground to blend with the beauty of the landscape. They often feature expansive lawns with a variety of trees, flower beds and gardens, as well as benches, memorial statues to create reflective landscaping.

A traditional cemetery has a variety of tombstones from upright monuments, usually made of stone to flat markers. Because many have functioned in their communities for over 100 years, traditional cemeteries typically contain a great deal of history.
