Hi, how are you doing? This is Jamie and you're listening to the To Do San Francisco podcast for Wednesday, March 11th, 2026. Thanks for taking a couple of minutes out of your day to listen. We've made it to the hump of the week, and if you're feeling that midweek slump, today's show is exactly what you need to power through.

Before we move on, let's set our intention. Repeat after me. I celebrate the small wins today. A finished task, a good conversation, a perfect meal. These are not small. They're the building blocks of a great life. I am present, I am capable, and I am fueled by joy. So today we're heading to the heart of Noe Valley, specifically the corner of 24th and Castro Streets.

We're talking about a neighborhood institution, subs, Inc. This spot isn't just a sandwich shop, it's a piece of San Francisco history. Before Rami Balat opened Subs Inc back in 2006, this exact corner was home to the legendary Bud's Ice Cream, a neighborhood staple since the 1930s. Rami kept that neighborhood spirit alive by not only serving killer subs, but by continuing the ice cream tradition. They serve San Francisco's famous Mitchell's ice cream, which is the perfect dessert after the sub move.

So what sort of sub sandwich might you try? Whether you want a hot toasted melt or a crisp cold classic. The secret weapon here is the Dutch crunch bread. If you aren't from the bay, it's a tiger bread style with a crackly toasted top that adds that essential crunch to every bite.

Some of the fan favorites at Subs Inc Include the TBA, a hot sub. This is the gold standard. TBA stands for Turkey, crispy bacon and perfectly ripe avocado, all toasted until the provolone is bubbling. There's the Matt Kane, a cold sub, named after the Giants pitching legend. This is a heavy hitter with salami, ham, marella, and the works.

It's the ultimate picnic at Dolores Park Sandwich. Then there's the noi, a veggie option for my plant-based friends. The roasted eggplant and red peppers with pesto is surprisingly hardy and hits all the right notes. What to know before you go to sub zinc. They're open daily, 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM It's a prime lunch spot, so if you're heading there around noon, it expect a line, but trust me, it moves fast and there is no substitute for that first bite.

Enjoy that sub!

So Noe Valley is famously the stroller capital of San Francisco. Today's tip is about sidewalk diplomacy. Because Subs Inc is on a busy corner with limited indoor seating, the sidewalk often becomes a waiting room. Be mindful of the flow of traffic if you see a double stroller or someone with a cane trying to get passed.

Step toward the building to clear the lane a little. Excuse me, and a step to the side makes the neighborhood feel like the community it is. That's the show for today. Grab a Turkey bacon avocado on Dutch Crunch. Roll. Find a sunny bench and enjoy being in the best city in the world. I'll be back tomorrow.

Stay fueled and have a beautiful day. San Francisco.
