Show Notes

Nate is a husband, father and therapist based out of Bethesda, MD. Growing up, He was an accomplished athlete, going on to play football at the collegiate level. He saw how many young men and athletes were suffering with mental health problems without an outlet.  Nate graduated with his Bachelors in Social Work from Catholic University and then went on to receive his Masters in Social Work from Columbia University. Nate’s experience has been shaped by practicing in a number of settings including community clinics and Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs. Nate’s experience led him to opening his own practice, The Calming Mind, where he is dedicated towards the improvement of Men’s Mental Health. The Calming Mind also works closely with local sports teams to help address the mental health needs of local athletes.

We get into:

  • Nate’s backstory, and how the kinds of male mentors he’s had in his dad, and coaches have influenced his development and career specialization
  • How he met his wife (... in a trailer park)
  • His experiences at Potomac Pathways in an intensive outpatient program and running men’s groups
  • How he ended up seeing the need for more services for teen boys and men
